And I'll just add, it's a great shot the way at the beginning of Chiquitita, the picture slowly dissolves from an auditorium shot to a close side view of Agnetha singing the opening chorus with Frida's gaze from slightly further back all the time directed towards her co- star and hence the camera itself, her face slightly out of focus, which you would expect, but breaking into a clear smile at chorus's end.
I'm the 18 year old girl at .45 seconds. I'm 60 next week. Lol I won tickets off of the radio in Chicago. The station wanted the 54 caller to answer a question. By some law of attraction they got me. I knew the answer. I asked "Am I caller 54???" He told me that I wss 55. 54 got yhe answer wrong! The DJ was at my parents' hoise an hour later with two plane tickets, two tickets to tge UNICEF concert, the hotel info and $100 cash. I was told I waa on t.v. but was on the plane home when it aired. Two years ago my friend who came wuth me found the entire concert. It was the first time I saw it finished, as there were no recording deviced commonly used in American homes. My parents almost fainted when she saw me because I was in the shot for about 8 seconds. The WHOLE thing was surreal.
I was ten years old when this aired. Watching it now I am both grateful and sad seeing Olivia, Maurice Gibb, Maurice White, Robin, Andy, Donna, John and Gilda.

January 9, 1979 at the UNICEF Benefit Concert ABBA makes the world premiere of 'Chiquitita' the professionalism of Agnetha and Björn to be together and side by side in "He is your brother" at such a hard emotional time for them is admirable (just a few weeks ago they had separated) and besides that Agnetha takes the leading voice within the United Nations when herself could be the recipient of that shoulder to lean on to cry, However, she goes out to transmit the joy of hope with all the strength and power of her voice, and the beauty of her expressive gestures. solidly accompanied by Frida
@ApacheTim Yes, and I also left out other small parts where ABBA was to be seen in the show and only added the music parts :-) It's a choice you make and my choice was this :-) "He's Your Brother" was performed at the beginning at the show under the introduction of the performers. The last song to be performed was "Put A Little Love In Your Heart", where all the stars was singing together as in "He's Your Brother".
Events like this are so much better than any of today's bloated awards ceremonies and the shenanigans that go on at them. I wonder if this 1979 concert was broadcast live or a little later in countries around the world, considering it is a UNICEF concert staged in the main assembly of the UN building itself. Many poor people in the world who could not afford a tape deck recorder, let alone mere cassettes, might have glimpsed this wonderful concert and the smiling genuine stars and their music for the very first time round a communal TV set. And heard for the first time an Abba song (Chiquittita). And maybe dreamed a little. Thank you Abba. Considering the format, singing live may not have been possible here. Check out a live version from their London '79 concert: superb! (Nice to see the Bee Gees and Earth, Wind And Fire sharing the stage with Abba, in New York!)
It was live broadcast for the whole world in 1979, I was still in High School and watched them in front of our little 14 " color TV. You will never ever see this concert again in our life time. It only happened once. ABBA also donated this song to UNICEF as a gift, the sales of this song 100% goes to UNICEF. As matter of fact, this song raised the most money to this organization.
At the 43 sec mark, a young, cheerful woman has clearly risen from her seat to join in the musical celebration. An innocent and infectious enthusiasm has emanated through her. It’s early 1979, and perhaps, if she were all being well still around and still healthy, the mere sight of herself in moving-image form would bring back the past as if it were still with her. If she only knew that this video is publicly available. Most folk back then never featured in cine images, even in 1979. It would be the late 1980s before it would become much more accessible technology-wise. So unless somebody was captured on TV, before the late 1980s most folk had not the means, financial or otherwise, to photograph themselves in any other form than still photography.
Both comments testify to your deep thinking. Interesting! However, this mega-successful band truly set musical milestones for our generation, whether or not they were appreciated by the elaborate jazz, rock, or other genre musicians of their day. Some of whom may actually admit today that they secretly liked ABBA's music too, but were perhaps a little jealous of their success with seemingly banal music. Whereby the classification "banal" for the predominantly perfectly arranged songs rather shows a lack of musical knowledge.
so interesting that they picked an early totally unknown ABBA track from their pre Eurovision album to perform by all those superstars... i do love the song, but it still amazes me and wonder why the record company did not release as a single immediately.... the us company messed it up big time in 1979 by releasing Chiquitita only in autumn instead with accordance of the airing of this show... why on earth they did that ?

im so in love with Agnetha her voice her beauty she is perfection

You are going to hear one of those beautiful songs that you where not expecting to here.but you are lessoning to AbbA,
I was ten years old when this aired. Watching it now I am both grateful and sad seeing Olivia, Maurice Gibb, Maurice White, Robin, Andy, Donna, John and Gilda.
and Rod Stewart ;)

It's not everyday you get a line-up of an era's legends all on one stage, but that's exactly what happened one cold January day in 1979.Bee Gees, Olivia Newton-John, Donna Summer, ABBA, Rod Stewart, Earth, Wind & Fire, Kris Kristofferson and many more, were brought together in New York on January 9, 1979 for a spectacular collaboration
January 9, 1979
at the UNICEF Benefit Concert
ABBA makes the world premiere of 'Chiquitita'
the professionalism of Agnetha and Björn to be together and side by side in "He is your brother"
at such a hard emotional time for them is admirable (just a few weeks ago they had separated)
and besides that
Agnetha takes the leading voice
within the United Nations
when herself could be the recipient of that shoulder to lean on to cry,
However, she goes out to transmit the joy of hope with all the strength and power of her voice, and the beauty of her expressive gestures.
solidly accompanied by Frida
One of their best.
at exactly 1.45 frida smiles at the perfection
not very often is there such quality from a duo , I can only think of The Everly Brothers .
ANd Simon And Garfunkel Everly Brothers and ABBA and Björn and Benny could sing to
So,so beautiful..
No one could compare.
ABBA is back 💓
Howdy Brightnights, Simply put, "Excellent" Thanks Lenny
They are the best
@ApacheTim
Yes, and I also left out other small parts where ABBA was to be seen in the show and only added the music parts :-)
It's a choice you make and my choice was this :-)
"He's Your Brother" was performed at the beginning at the show under the introduction of the performers.
I believe it was taped on Jan 6th and broadcast on the 8th or 9th. Something like that. It was a few days after the event that it was broadcast.
LOVE IS ALL GREATEST SONGS ABBA IS AMAZING 🎸🎹🎷🥁🎻🎺🎤🎼🎶🎶🎸🎸🎸🎙🎙💙💜💟💛💚
¡FELICIDADES CHIQUITITA ! POR TUS 40 AÑOS.
Chiquitita is a cuddle for a heart broken and a great melody of all time
At the 43 sec mark, a young, cheerful woman has clearly risen from her seat to join in the musical celebration.
I saw this live on Swedish TV. The memory is still alive in me
I have never seen this footage and I have love ABBA for the past 40 years. The first time I saw and heard Agnetha sing, I thought and still think she is the most beautiful woman in the world.
Many have said the same thing about Frida.
Susan F yes she is, no other voice penetrates my heart as deeply as Agnetha's, she can cry with her voice, not to mention her beauty...
@@tolgamert6324
And Frida can't? Oh, puleese!
@@williamoverly1617No she can't. Everyone has their favorite, mine is definitely Agnetha. And yours is frida, everything is fine.
Love the harmonies!
