The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I'm not so sure if horns are needed on this tune.
Electric guitar would have been fine
It was the 50s.
Yes they are it’s the best part
The horns are a disaster
Love the horns!
great video but the Ray Bloch orchestra destroys this fine song. Too bad they couldnt bring the A team from nashville who recorded the song with Everlys. (Chet Atkins, Buddy harman, Bob Moore, Hank garland)
Agreed, the orchestra completely is out of place. Maybe it had something to do with the New York Musicians Union?
Right! Hate that orchestra...hate it!
Look at what music was about then...and you'll see why the horns and orchestra. It's fine, sign of the times. By the next time they were a massive hit weeks later, no horns. comments on the horns a side point anyway. What's amazing is seeing these legends on TV in the first place back then. I was already smitten by then when they arrived on TV.
@@SpeegBJ they had already done the Sullivan show without the orchestra just the 2 of them about a month earlier.
Awesome!! Keith Richards once said Don Everly was one of the great rhythm guitar players and learned his Open G tuning style from him.
And now he's lost both his drummer and his idol within a day of each other... totally unfathomable losses, despite their ages.
In all likelihood, he was probably talking about Brian Jones
@@eze2576 no he was talking about Don Everly look it up.
Look at that pair of Gibson J-200s...Wow~!!! The Everly Brothers were gigantic hitmakers in their day.
Too bad they ruined this rock and roll classic with...trumpets...Seriously? I swear Ed Sullivan didn't know how to make good decisions about how to deal with famous musicians
he showed Elvis from the waist up and he called buddy Holly (hollet)
My heart broke last night when I read Don died. The music he and Phil made from the late 50s through the early 60s were like a sing-along illustration of those days. They were admired by other musicians for their unique vocal stylings and those incredible harmonies. The Everly Brothers were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1986, its inaugural year. R.I.P.
Heaven must be ringin' with those sweet harmonies.
Same here. I lost my sister a few days after Don died. I used to teach her to dance to the Everly Bros. hits when they were new....what a passing of Don, my favorite. Heart break.
Well written😊😊😊

R.I.P., Don
Thank you for helping to create a musical and artistic form that has inspired billions and helped to spread freedom globally. You and Phil were rock pioneers and everyone from the Beatles to Norah Jones has drawn inspiration from your work. May your harmonies ring forever.
Sounds like Ed wanted to make the parents happy, I don't think the Everly Brothers liked it too much 😅
True! Those horns in the back, to "soften" the sound... we know those tricks! ;)
Fantastic! An early live performance of the Everly Brothers!
back up music ruined a great song.
The addition of the horns is a mistake.
That arrangement is criminal.
Ya the horns are not needed. They were good.
RIP / Everly Brother,s you are truly missed...
RIP Don. Thanks for all the good music
Absolutely Fabulous. I Loved ❤ the Everly Brothers. If I remember rightly it was banned somewhere in the States because it was about a Boy and Girl who fell asleep and stayed out all night. Hahaha. What a difference today, Hey.
Remember Cathy's Clown, loved that as well. I can remember Buddy Holly singing Cathy's Clown, but even though I really liked Buddy Holly, it wasn't as good as when Don and Phil Everly sang it.
I remember Bye Bye Love.
Bird Dog, Walk right back .
All I have to do is dream,
When will I be Loved.
Crying in the rain .
Till I Kissed Ya.. and so many more.
I can remember jiving 💃🕺over St Michael's Hop as a teenager.
Oh those were the days. I think the late 50s ,60s and the 70s were the best years for Rock N Roll.
Wish I had a Time machine to go back to those years again.
But to be the same as I was then.
Not like I am now 👵. Hahaha.
Yeah, I Loved the Everly Brothers.
Thanks for sharing this. 👍
Brilliant, just Great.
Oops, I made a mistake. It wasn't Cathy's Clown that I heard Buddy Holly sing ,it was Wake Up Little Susie😌 .
It was good, but not as good as
The Everly Brothers. Brilliant.

Can we kill the horns, please??? Yechhhhhhhhhh.
RIP DON EVERLY 🙏
I can't unlike a performance by the Everlys, but the horns are awful! Guess the producers thought it wouldn't be a big enough "shew" if they didn't use the studio orchestra.
Where'd that other SCANDALOUS verse go?? :P
That background brass sucks the rockabilly right out of it.
I don't like that the horns took the part of the guitar rhythms in between verses
Horns are there to dress up the kids from Kentucky. This was new....horns required. They dumped them later of course.
the added brass section sounds really weird
Those horns are unbearable
I don't think I've ever seen a capo set that high on a neck, by Don or anyone else.
I've got a song with a capo on the 8th fret but not anywhere near as good as this
He's actually got it at the same fret Harrison did for Here Comes the Sun. The interesting thing though is he seems to be in open G tuning here.
Maravilhosos! ❤️❤️❤️
Fab harmony
Perhaps the biggest influence on the Beatles and they get very little credit. John and Paul were heavily influenced by their harmonies.
Horn????what a screw up
For ALL OF YOU PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE HORNS...YOU REALLY DPNT KNOW YOUR HISTORY. I WILL SAY THIS AGAIN.... WHEN a artist was BOOKED ON A NATIONAL SHOW THE ARTIST WILL PERFORMED WITH THE HOUSE BAND. YOU DIDN'T HAVE A CHOICE ABOUT YOUR ARRANGEMENTS. YOUR HAD TO GO WITH THE FLOW. THAT WHAT MAKE AN ARTIST!! EVEN DINAH WASHINGTON PERFORMED WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MADE WITHOUT STRING ON A 1960 T. V. SHOW and STILL STOPPED THE SHOW COLD. AND SHE WAS SINGING LIVE FOR FIFTEEN (15) YEARS AT THAT POINT. IT'S VERY DIFFERENT TODAY. SO DON'T JUDGE PERFORMANCE BY TODAY'S STANDARDS!!!!! PLEASE. JUST BE THANKFUL THEY MADE IT ON NATIONAL TELEVISION. ESPECIALLY ED SULLIVAN!!!!
I should've started a band with my kid brother back in the day, We both could sing and I can write songs...
Hes passed on.. One day, we will do it..in Heaven! ✝🛐⛪❤🕊☮🤗 🎸
Exactly!!
Country duo that saw itself into the rock 'n' roll scene...
Awesome song, 1st rock & roll song I ever heard, late 50's
MANIFIQUE
Only the Ed Sullivan Show could find a way to wreck this song.
were they Kentuckians? Richmond, KY?
What a great musical era , late 50’s to the late 70’s. Glad I was around to have lived through those days. Pure magic . Look what we have now.
Where is the brass?
Show 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍🎶🎶🎶
Play one the trumpeter knows.
i love this song
Timeless classic
The horns do ruin this amazing song
Super duo !! 👍😉
Great
Those horns ruined everything
Nice performance
Two awesome guys. RIP😢😢😊😊
Yeah, absolute 50’s TV gold! This take is even better than the original studio recording. Love the powerful brass too!
Ce duo est à l'origine des Bee Gees...😮
This channel is a treasure
👑
I was wondering. What is the model of the guitars ?
Gibsons, model unknown.
Those are Gibson J-200's
They sound like the chipmunks. So overrated.
