Thank you for taking the time to give suggestions on working with Bonsai’s in the winter. Being new to all of this, it gave me a good idea of the direction I want to go with my new found hobby!🥰

You have such a beautiful property. I hope you do a video tour of it one day.

      Thank you!
We are lucky to have gotten it almost 30 years ago...not too expensive then. My wife worked with the architect, and I planted every Tre on the property. some from seeds. Pick what has high potential.
Always act when the opportunity..Never count of luck.
I will when flowers are blossoming.

I will show off each of the trees when they bloom beautifully.
When I build the garden, I only planted specter cultivars...all the varieties with colors I like.
Same philosophy ad making Bosnia, I started with small plants, nothing more than a 5 gallon size, ?the garden looks dreadful with little sticks forbears...then....

The common misconception about over watering, I think Milton is trying to explain, is it's not the excess water that kills the plant. It's the lack of oxygen. So long as the pot is well drained/has holes for the water to run out of, it's hard to kill any plant by watering it too much. If a plant (any plant) sits in water for a long period of time it'll most likely die as the roots are unable to get the required oxygen due to being under water, much like how we would not be able to breath is we were kept under water.

I will use peat moss on trees or shrubs in a large nursery pot, but I do not use it in a bonsai pot because of the care required in watering. There should be other ways to lower soil Ph, such as Miracid fertilizer or aluminum sulfate (for use on hydrangeas)--just be careful. It pays to invest in a Ph meter. I have bought kanuma from a retiring bonsai keeper, but for me it's too expensive to buy a Japanese import. With azaleas, you have to be careful about the sodium content of your water supply--excessive sodium is a no-no.

I didn't hear anything about you addressing the exorbitant price of your chinese elms for sale as you said you would discuss in the q&a. The person asked about watering in winter with your soil mix, it would be unwise to water daily in winter in a climate that differs from your own - Root Rot is a thing and could kill a bonsai watering it daily in wet rainy cold winter conditions. I believe the word you are looking for is Kanuma for azalea soil. I'll be holding my breath waiting for you too explain how a small elm cutting is worth $300. I feel sorry for the people that bought those trees, and hope others continue to express their disappointment of the greed involved.

@@archiegarcia2464 I agree and sometimes you get what you pay for except in the case of those Chinese elms. I am not an expert and don't claim to be. There were lots of comments on previous postings about the price of his trees. Mr. Chang responded he would address the concerns in a future Q&A. Looking back it appears those comments have been deleted, and no response has been given. I belong to 2 local clubs and pay dues of $30 a yr to each club. I have learned a lot from local club members on how to handle trees in my local area. I have purchased a lot of trees in the past few yrs, and was told to follow his advice would be death to those bonsai. This past fall I bought a Chinese elm from a vendor at a Bonsai Show, generally considered to be one of the most expensive ways to purchase bonsai. With that in mind lol that tree cost me $50 and in a much more developed tree than the ones sold here for $300. I don't like to see people take advantage of people who don't know any better but that seems to be the way of the world, so it goes.

How interesting, you don't consider when it has rained on your trees as being watered

    • @jasonhampton9988
      @jasonhampton9988 9 днів тому

@judydawson806 Yes, so after it rains, I would not water that day and depending many days after. In winter conditions, trees do not take up as much water as when they are actively growing. Most advice I have heard and have personally found effective is to not water on a schedule, I would check the tree to see if it is need of water daily and if there is enough moisture, then no water is needed. In summer, I may need to water 2x a day, depending on the tree's conditions. Here is some info on bonsai watering...
Bonsai trees need to be watered when the soil is dry, but how often depends on several factors.
      When to water
Check the soil: Stick your finger about an inch into the soil to see if it's dry.
Water thoroughly: Soak the entire root system until water runs out of the drainage holes.
Water in the morning or evening: Check the soil at these times to see if it needs water.

    Hi Milton,
Just wondering how you send photos and questions through for the Q&A ?,I sent some photos and questions through to ur bonsai heirloom website but no reply.
Love watching you're U Tube channel many thanks.
Just wanted to show you a photo of a lemon Verbena tree i have been growing for about 10 years or so and what great potential it has for bonsai.
Could you please send me your email address so I can send photos
I love trying to think of trees that are beneficil for insects people and animals etc to to train as bonsai.
For example plants with flowers or fruits and medical plants and herbs that are often overlooked and have great potential to be trained into Bonsai and are good for helping mother nature and the environment.
I think this should be encouraged more in the Bonsai community.
    Many thanks. Nev 🐝🌞
