DIMEBAG + SCORPIONS = AWESOME SOLO! 00:03:36
Paul Gilbert in Meshuggah? Guthrie Govan in Wintersun? Eric Johnson in Carcass?
Holy fuck Dimebag and Scorpions PERFECTTTT.
Same with the Rammstein one, man they're all good.
I dunno why, but almost all those pairings sounded amazing.
I think that you can play those faster if he puts a Lamborghini sticker instead of a Porsche one
Yes but the German engineering should be more... 'efficient' ;)
BenHigginsOfficial Lamborghini it's owned by the wolksvagen group since 2004 :)
***** No. Mispelling Volkswagen it's a enormous mistake for someone who consider himself as a gearhead. Shame on me XD
Gasaft Garcia or if he gets the 'keys to the Lamborghini' from MAB (haa) oh damn, my tongue is stuck in my cheek !
For the last one I thought you were gonna say Ben Higgins and some fucking huge band, hahah
Should have done Nuno Bettencourt in Meshuggah. That would be hilarious.
This is an incredibly useful video. Love that the tabs are included on screen between sections. Also, I'd like to add that I absolutely respect this guitarist. His skill is impeccable.
Now, I don't mean this in a harsh or negative way but I don't think he nailed the feel of some players. Again, not trying to be rude or a troll. Essentially he seems to be taking excerpts from each guitarist catalog of solos then rearranging them or reworking them entirely. Playing similar notes of guitar heroes in similar patterns is one thing, but nailing the phrasing and feel of an artist is totally different. Yes, I understand the idea behind this video is to give general ideas for players to learn from and mess around with. He does a damn fine job mostly. I think it might be his legato phrasing that could be throwing a few of them off to my ear.
Great video man. You rock!
KittenOfDoom Thanks a lot for posting your honest feedback, it's well appreciated! --Bogdan
as honest as you are intending to be man, I think you're focusing a little too much on that, the purpose of the video is too show you how many styles can fit with effort and it can help you develop an ear for music. The purpose isn't too nail the feel of each player he chose to demonstrate. Now I think he nailed all of them, don't know how you're hearing differently, his style still comes through, which is a sign of a skilled player who has his style figured out.
+KittenOfDoom This guy does covers a million guitarists on his channel - this basically has to be more general because it would take a crazy amount of time to put together 30 solos in a video that pass the "blind test" for your typical metal listener - Even Guthrie Govan's attempt at this same thing wasn't close to perfect for all of the players, and he's as good as they come.
Dimebag+Scorpions = GOLD
+Thrdoal Diamond. Dont buy into the Dimebag trendie marketing. I saw them a few times in the beginning, when he proudly called himself Diamond Darrell, because he thought thats what was 'cool', at the time. He will always be Diamond Darrell Abbott.
+Dangler 12 completely wrong. He was Dimebag since high school, cause that's the amount of weed he could afford at any given time. when they started to make it, management decided to change it to "Diamond" for marketing purposes (drug references being not exactly tipper gore friendly at the time). after Pantera got big enough for Darrell to call his own shots he went back to Dimebag
Not sure who disliked this video. Probably someone like my mom who thinks rock is a bunch of noise. She always has cracked me up when she complains about rock. Great video!
Love the Porsche badge on the guitar !!! I am an enthusiast as well
Good taste - what's you favourite series ? 997 Carrera GTS would be my choice
Marty Friedman would actually sound good in Metallica
That would make too much sense. Stop being so logical. Fuck Hammett sucks
Syn and Mercyful Fate? Randy and Arch Enemy? Dimebag and Scorpions? Alexi and Skid Row? You, sir, are a genius
Isaiah King It's all written by Ben. It's not an actual Syn solo, it's just in Syn's style
This need John Petrucci at Necrophagist.
some of these sounded incredible and not misplaced at all
Haha, that made my day. Your phrasing and technique are of high standard.
Ben, I've got to say that honestly, this may be one of the single most creative/funniest guitar concepts I've ever seen. Guitarist musical chairs, wow... you are too fucking much man, too much! I didn't know whether to laugh at this or love this at first, but I did both soon after I heard it all. I mean, who thinks up weird but genius shit like this? Who out there goes "hmnn, guitar musical chairs with different bands..... I think I might try that" and actually goes ahead and does it? LOL, that crazy dude Ben Higgins - that's who!
Some of mashups are REALLY good! Fantastic work!
I love these videos because Ben here shows a completely mastery of a style in great detail, a level which few attempt much less achieve.
Just for the record, these guitarists are NOT part of the band within the parenthesis, he puts said guitarists solos within songs of the bands within the parenthesis.
Just to clear things up with people watching this and thinking otherwise! :)
If the title wasn't clear enough for people to understand than they surely have brain damage.
Moonshain Which is why we should help them xD
(I wrote this after reading a lot of comments like "I didn't knew ThisBandsArtist looked like this!")
This guy is a musical cornucopia of ideas. The backing tracks are the magic that really let the lead playing shine.
You should try some more opposite shredders. I'd love to see Slash in Cannibal Corpse or Ritchie Blackmore in Slipknot.
Metal Marauder Shut the fuck up. The Beatles are a better thrash metal band than Slayer.
PRSexy 69 excuse you bitch slayer is jazz fusion get your shit together
Ben Higgins, you are a genius! If you get a chance to read this, I've only just started to check out your videos, but I'm already a true legit fan of yours. Your guitar playing is amazing, my man! Keep up the great work!
That Glenn Tipton part... inexplicably breathtaking!
My god man, you are soooo good! Unbelievable!!! This level of skill boggles my mind.
Buckethead and Mayhem made my Head explode ! :D That really was misplaced :D But I thought that Yngwie and Morbid angel really fitted well, aswell as Matthias Jabs and Ozzy ; Glenn Tipton and Maiden ; Dave Murray and Priest ; Zakk and Anthrax ; Jeff Waters and Testament ; Vinnie Moore and Rammstein and of course Dimebag and Scorpions . Awesome Job dude :)
That Jeff Loomis, Rustey Cooley, Buckethead, Dime+Scorpions
Loomis with Annihilator and Becker with Symphony X were both amazing ideas and sounded great! I love this whole video what an excellent idea man!
Dude, this is awesome. Thank you for learning and explaining all these fantastic leads! You're a great player too, very clean.
Nice work.
Some of these "misplaced" shredders sounded right at home! What excellent skill you have! Really enjoyed it.
Ben like always, never disappoints. What I especially liked was Rusty's, Loomis', Buckethead's and Jason's
That Alex Laiho lick totally kicked ass.
Roy Aberjew Great to hear you liked it, check out this full lesson/video by Ben focusing on Alexi style exclusively : www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Alexi-Laiho-Style/ --Bogdan
@@gmcguitar I came back 6 years later to hear this same lick and only now saw this reply, many thanks and RIP Alexi 🙏
Those misplaced licks tickle my brain in all the right ways. Amazing.
Just a few ideas I had.
Herman Li (DragonForce) and Behemoth
Jake E. Lee and King Diamond
Eric Johnson and Avatar
Allan Holdsworth and Cannibal Corpse
Jennifer Batten (Michael Jackson) and Death
Orianthi and Machine Head
Jim Root (Slipknot and Stone Sour) and Ratt
Chris Broderick and Slipknot
Chuck Schuldiner (Death) and Freedom Call
Luca Turilli (Rhapsody of Fire) and Necrophagist
Warren DeMartini (Ratt) and Godsmack
Mick Mars and Disturbed
Michael Angelo Batio and Napalm Death
Guthrie Govan and Exodus
John 5 and Creed
Just a few ideas I came up with. Thoughts?
"Michael Angelo Batio and Napalm Death
Guthrie Govan and Exodus"
XD
You've done a great job matching these, man. That was awesome!
This guy is amazing!
Great video Sir. Guys like you help many of us less talented guys get a little better
Without the subtitles I probably wouldn't have been able to guess more than a couple of the imitated styles, but that doesn't mean this wasn't badass.
You are an absolute genius! _/\_
Your insights on each player's playing style are so helpful and interesting to listen to!
No Schuldiner? :c
+King Barney they got him in the video "30 shredders in one solo" and i think he the guy in the video picked up Chuck's style quite cool
Most combinations were very interesting, some were awesome and the end was killer! great job! :D
YEAH ! BUCKETHEAD IS IN THE LIST!
That was really entertaining and impressive ... Was holding out for Skolnick. The Buckethead and Mayhem combo was hilarious for some reason. Well done, Cheers!
Haha cool. Who says shred and humour can't go together sometimes ? :D
Dude, come on! You've just reached Asian level on guitar without.. being Asian. This is impossible. Earth now will explode!!
Great work as always! Some of the 'misplaced shredders' with different bands sounds awesome! Keep rockin'!
this is one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life
OK. I didn't know that Mariah Carey had those chops!! She should play guitar instead.
No one in the world could have a better idea... Congratulations! you're a genius... I admire you a lot...
Ben, you did it another time... Some things that i wanna say are these:
It's like Maiden and Priest exchanged guitarists
Kerry King has been in Megadeth before Chris Poland sterted playing there
And you tend to mix the Big 4 together ( Friedman-Metallica, Spitz-Slayer,
King-Megadeth )
However, it's at all a great video...
Thumbs up for playing this in 1 take!
yeah I know about the Kerry / Megadeth thing.. it was actually bit of a reference towards it for those who know their 'Deth history ;)
Uli's great. I included him on the other '30 Shredders' video. This time around, I had to sacrifice a few names in order to add some different ones :)
BenHigginsOfficial you are awesome man! not many players can play so intricately and technical and still keep it so compelling! well done keep up guitar, I think you might just be on to something with this instrument ;)
jack wragg Pretty sure Kerry King was in Megadeth for like 2 weeks or something, not even close to long enough to be considered a full-time member.
So now you'll have many more comments about why there was not that misplaced shredder on that non existing group in the list. Fantastic work Ben, like in all your videos, loved that Michael Romeo made it to the first misplaced one here on that list! Keep on making such inspiring videos
You Man are a genius !
Super creative way to present these great licks. You are an awesome guitarist. I wish this stuff was available when I started out. Keep up the great work!
Really liked the Randy Rhoads one!
BENNY...BOB IS MY UNCLE...YOU PSYCHIC? I MUST HAVE NO LIFE...I've WATCHED THIS LIKE 10 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK...LEARNING THIS ON ACOUSTIC IS MAKING MY OLD FINGERS BLEED...JAM UP!!
Oh fuck, Randy and Arch Enemy. That'd be awesome.
The Andy LaRoque & Skolnick bits were unreal! The whole video is very Impressive.. I'm off to chop off my hands now, thank you.
Dude your fucking genius.....I can't think of any other way to describe it....my jaw is on the floor
Seriously if you made an album with all of those songs with you playing them in those styles I'd buy that in a heart beat
Buckethead with Mayhem LOL I love it xDD amazing.
I watched the whole thing, this guy is really good ladies and gentlemen, you should watch it to the end. I join the group of thumbs up
Satriani and Nile, good taste my friend
Glad to see such a diverse metal lineup. Nice job man!!
Cheers, I tried to keep it balanced. I'm always going to forget some and leave somebody's favourites out but hey..... ;)
I think the Alexi Laiho part doesn´t fit in Alexis style.. but otherwise, great job !
I really agree with you tremendously. Alexi's playing is a blazing inferno. What I heard here were like the ashen remains of an Alexi Laiho solo. Still, I think the video is really quite awesome all together.
man its awesome!! its so incredible that u played that all hahah!
What is misplaced here ?!? It all sounds like its meant to be !!! When i grow up i want to be just like Randy Rhoads from Arch Enemy :D
P.S.
Ferrari Jackson .. i have one too :D
Hehe, it was surprising how well it all fit together. That's actually a Porsche sticker on the guitar because Yngwie already has the Ferrari sticker and Rusty has the Lambo sticker. I've got to be different ;)
BenHigginsOfficial Just wondering, is the Vinnie Moore lick based on his song "In Control"?
i wasn't able to close my mouth in those 5 minutes solomix. what the hell, that was soooo awesome!! guys like you are my motivation to play every damn day those scales and pentas hahah
BenHigginsOfficial
Has anyone told you that you look like Rusty Cooley yourself?
You should do a collab with Eric "...meets Metal" Calderone!
Great work, mate! The thing that struck me, after hearing the solos isolated, is how many of them are actually quite similar in style... Not because of how you played them, but because that's just how they ARE!
ZEGO24x Backing tracks play a huge role in music we play in general and they are the "magic dust". Backing can make or break a great solo on it's own. --Bogdan
Oh, c'mon! The last one was hard enough........btw, don't turn off halfway through the Maria Carey bit - nice sweeps at the end.
BenHigginsOfficial
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!! In all seriousness, thanks for putting these vids up - really, really useful and I've been playing for 40 years. Hope to post my version when it's good enough - about 2016 at a guess!
I would give everything I own to see Joe Satriani play with Nile, followed by Tony McAlpine playing with Cradle of Filth. You made both of those sound perfect. Well done
Hey, normal I just troll people on the internet, like I'd just ignore the video and tezz you, but yeah this was really good.
Yes boss, I mean I'd be anything for you after watching that :)))))))))))))))))
This is one of the best guitar tutorials here in youtube. AMAZING !!! 30 signature shreds compiled in to one... You're the best sir ! I will download this... hehehe. tnx..
I liked your Marty Friedman phrase
I'm not gonna sit here and lie to you... THAT WAS FREAKING AMAZING!
it is just a regular Jackson Ps4?
sound amazingly, way better than mine...
of course the guitar guy helps a lot! ahahah
BenHigginsOfficial I'm going to use this video as evidence to prove to idiots that the Performers were very much a great guitar.
BenHigginsOfficial You say 'completely stock', but further down you say the stock trem was 'crap', implying you changed the stock trem?
JACKSON AXE Ah Jeez I forget man, c'mon, forgive a man here :D Yeah you're right, the trem was changed for a licensed Floyd copy but other than that, completely stock
Loved the last one fella lol, amazing talent dude. Made my morning :-)
SYNYSTER GATES, FINALLY!!!
Dime's solo actually fits in quite well. I 've got anew solo for Rock You like a Hurricane thanks to you
The Kirk Hammett part is not authentic, he can't even play 2 clean notes in a row.
Quinn Wilson No, no.... he's not saying that Ben is a bad player because of the Kirk part, he is saying that the Kirk part was not realistic because Kirk *himself* can't play good. That's where the slam came from, or at least I think so :/
Mark Slaney To add onto what Mark Slaney was saying before, Kirk is a "popular joke", if you would call it that, to many experienced and aspiring guitar players into metal. Not alot of people respect him or his playing because he is a "beginner" to many :/
Kirk's problem is that he got too lazy after his peak was reached. He used to be really nice at guitar, but then his skill dropped after Metallica made it big and they didn't have to try as much. He didn't feel the motivation to try as much as he used to, and he never expanded and built upon his styles when he could during the end of the 80s towards the early 90s unlike his fellow guitar mates who came from the same generation, and everyone can see how he tries to play it safe by doing the same thing all the time. Only now that he is lazy, it's alot worst and when he uses wah it looks like he's overcompensating for his already lackluster playing. He's good at writing melodic solos, and that probably comes from learning from Satriani, but when it comes to everything else..... somebody out there is better at him, and it's a shame because Kirk should be one of the best there is, being in a band like Metallica :/
Like you know those 2 guitarists named Alex Skolnick and Marty Friedman in this video that Ben covered? Yeah, they do almost the EXACT same type of playing that Kirk does, but with better skill and finesse and they are really lightyears ahead of Kirk. Shit.... who am I kidding? They are lightyears ahead of most metal guitarists >_>, but why you may ask? They practiced, and when they peaked and got good, THEY KEPT PRACTICING. Skolnick was also a student of Satriani just like Kirk, and he learned the same things Kirk did, but he pushed himself to get better and better when was in Testament and when he wasn't. When he was in Testament, he was technical, but at the same time incredibly melodic and musical. He was a real badass for a thrash guitarsts, but when he got out of metal, he got into jazz fusion, which opened up his playing and style tremendously. He developed an amazing repertoire of licks, a nice picking technique, and motiffs, one of which is the flattened 5th, which is a really cool thing he plays in most of his solos, and he nails it everytime and it really makes his playing "pop" so to speak. Friedman on the other hand played with Jason Becker in Cacaphony, where he got on the map and showed his amazing skills and exotic, out of this world, melodic playing style which cannot be understated. He then joined Megadeth and made Rust In Piece with Mustaine and the rest of the band, and on that album, ALL of his solos where perfect. They where all melodic and exotic and fast and technical, but his solos on Tornado of Souls and Lucretia where amazing. Both of them where so chock full of beautiful phrasing and bends and intensity and skill that it would just blow you away whether you played guitar or not, you could instantly tell how good he was. After Megadeth, he left and pursued his own career, where he adapted more neo-classical in his style which also broadened his playing style, and he's never sucked as a guitar player to this very day. Skolnick and Friedman are just two examples of guys just like Kirk who started from the same generation, same young teenagers who wanted to play guitar, and managed to take their guitar playing to new levels and will keep trying to get better and better, but Kirk will just be content with his basic style and he won't improve because he doesn't feel like it, and that's why no one likes him except beginner guitarists and Metallica fans :/
Leo Uwazuruonye I complete agree with you, I think kirk had the potential to become a great guitarist his playing in the 80s was actually pretty good but he got stuck in the pentatonic scale. nevertheless he still wrote some cool solos such as the unforgiving and ride the lightning ...
Ah, awesome video! No point in telling that I would love to see some of these collaborations become a reality....
Dude. I never comment on UA-cam vids. Can't help myself this time. That was KILLER. The Lynch, the Malmsteen, the MacAlpine, the LaRocque were on point perfectly. Well done, bro. Now I want to burn my guitar. As a matter of fact, I take it back. I hate your guts now.
Love the irony of Kerry King with Megadeth considering the history
One of the best compilations of shredders to date...wow.
damn that andy laroque is on point
is this really an hour long !? I am 3 minutes and am convinced you got what ever gig your looking for ..
the most misplaced shredder would be allan holdsworth in cannibal corpse
I'll need to practise for another 50 years to try and emulate Holdsworth !! ;p
BenHigginsOfficial haha yeah, that gentleman is a pure freak. great video by the way!
Cool video :D
Fucking amazing!!!
"Check out my mini sweep" Hahahaha that was so much fun!
Omg man... tell me where you got that tshirt! I want it so fuckin much!
No I bought it from them direct.. they always change what they're selling though so it's a case of luck that I found it !
The lick of Glen Tipton is taken from "Touch of Evil" song,Great Job Ben!!!
I hate to say this... but you're probably better than most of these shredders.
Oh man, I don't know.. it's like football freestyler in the pro footballers match. Playing in team is something different than foolin around and force everyone to focus only at you.
MacAlpine + Cradle =
Dimebag in scorpions sounds so badass
I was about to comment that right when I heard it, damn awesome
I keep rewinding it to that point.
