No Carrots? No Peas? No Mash? No Sprouts? No Parsnips? No Cauli? - It looked more like what you'd get left over from a fight from the left overs of a Mixed Grill and a Roast - And they have the cheek to charge you £65 to do all the plate prepping too. One Yorkie??????? - You need atleast two! or more! - 6 if you live in my house, and the other six to eat with ice-cream for dessert!
After covid, I went to the Cardiff one. Bill was supposed to be about £85, was the black angus ribeye in three peppercorn gravy.. steak was incredibly chewy, ordered a medium rare was closer to a well done, had to send it back which the waiter was very rude about. Missus had the same but ordered medium well, same thing her steak had charring on it too - burned. When they brought a new plate exact same thing so for the price getting burned steaks we were disappointed, we'd usually have just ate it and went home with a sour face but we complained, they slashed 80% off our bill knowing it was their mistake, so it came to around £19 but considering we only had a bite of each we were both very disappointed, essentially £19 for two glasses of wine and some greens, we grabbed a KFC bucket on the way home - thankfully that was exactly as expected! As always thank you for the review Gary, appreciate your honesty in your reviews.

Our Beefeater ended up as a Miller & Carter. The Beefeater was very popular. Sad to see it go. I’ve been to the Miller & Carter once, never again, overpriced and not at all welcoming.
Gary, great video as always 👍 ❤ I just watched it with my lovely mum and the first thing she said was "wheres the brussel sprouts and carrots.. Lost my job last month at age 64 . Mostly eating potatoes and onions ( fried ) . Breakfast at that price 😂 I absolutely love your videos 😂 Thank you for keeping me sane in these crazy times ❤
It's really vicious to lay people off that close to retirement. They know full well that it's close to impossible to get hired at that age! 🤬 I hope things are going to work out for you.
Jeez that sucks. It should be mandatory to pay one month severance for each year of service. The company I work for more, or less does this for layoffs and my coworkers your age sometimes keep hanging on hoping to get laid off rather than voluntarily retire 😂 Mind you they don’t do it out of charity, it’s to avoid wrongful termination issues.

Yes Gary and Marco, when we go to a restaurant I expect the food to be at least as good as home cooked and, these days, I am disappointed more often than not. I never go to that restaurant again if I have been unhappy with the food. Have written a Trip Advisor review a couple of times I have been so annoyed with really poor food.
Another excellent and honest review-this is exactly what food lovers like me appreciate. You were generous with your 3/10 rating. These restaurants often take advantage of customers and don't seem to care about quality. The chicken looked dry and inedible in the video, yet they boldly advertise it as 'succulent' on the menu-ridiculous! Your cameraman 📹is doing a fantastic job with the editing, and the audio clarity in each vlog is spot on.
I'm sick of saying too many places in the uk(not just eating places)are only interested in extracting as much money from punters as possible often with poor product & service😤💯
Gary’s website is already pretty brilliant. If you select “Reviews” on Gary’s website, he’s got all the restaurants he’s reviewed pinned on a map and the recommendations have gold pins.
As you rightly say Gary " Stick to what you do best", and that is steaks. I've had some great meals at Miller & Carter but not pretend roast dinners, your score is on point here.
I agree I wouldn't go there for a roast as u can almost just as good at Toby and carvery or some other pub. Don't get me wrong this is 1 of my fav restaurants but their main market is steaks and I wouldn't pay a premium price for a roast just because of their brand name
@Liamfolz well all I will say is if u want a roast u would want it both at a good price and of quality sadly in the case of miller and carter they are mainly good when it comes to steaks and ribs. Buying a roast at premium prices just because of their name is ill advised just like those other places Gary visited like Gordon ramseys chain restaurants which is just a brand and is no guarantee your gonna enjoy the food even at high prices
164k subscribers! Well done. Good to see the numbers continue to climb. Especially with UA-cam viewership plateauing and smaller / marginal channels going dark.
I like the way you scrutinise the more expensive eateries and rightly so.Its obviously an affluent area but that is really expensive for what it is,there is a reason why these type of places only last 2 years max, thanks Gary
Looks can be deceiving, it’s not an affluent area, there isn’t a queue of people in Worcester Park paying £66 for lunch. He reviewed TAS which is 1/2 mile down the road and that’s less than half what this costs and it’s loads better. M&C are so out of touch
Good review. Why put garlic on greens which have a subtle flavour? What would you taste but garlic. The portion size of the meal was good even if the quality wasn’t.
For two of us I would pay £66 especially as it’s not a “normal” Sunday roast. Nice to have something different sometimes and I like the idea of the Camembert mash and garlic veg. if I want a traditional roast I’d go to Toby Carvery.
Today made myself a 3 egg omelette. Hot peppers, diced onions, shredded cheddar, 2 pieces toast, fried up some left over mashed potatoes, coffee with cream. At most 5 dollars CAD, so about 3 pound sterling. And no service charge.🙂
Mitchell & Butler own the following brands: Ember Inns Stonehouse Toby All Bar One M&C Vintage Inns Sizzling O’Neils Harvester Castle To name but a few.
I'm actually making a roast right now to celebrate our Canadian Thanksgiving! (Turkeys were unaffordable this year). As a cook, it's really sad to think people pay big bucks for overcook meats. The whole point of going out is that it should be better than homemade!
Agreed 35 plus dollar turkeys. One year about six years ago the same brand had a sale at safeway. The turkeys were 3 dollars!!! Thatll never happen again.. I bought two that year would have bought ten but we had a tiny camping size freezer
@@SailingSeaStar_ It’s not a Sunday roast, though. It’s a steak with chicken, lamb, and Sunday roast accompaniments. People comparing it with a Toby Carvery are missing the point. I don’t think the video title helps either. It’s quite misleading. You can also get a theee course meal including steak for £33 too.
Appreciate your sharing with us Gary. You pretty much summed up everything about the experience at Miller & Carter. Some nice aspects of the meal but portions too small for £33 each and too expensive. Nice restaurant and you said service was great. Agree with your score and what a shame the experience wasn’t good. Take care and see you soon 🫶🫶🫶
Ive been to my local Miller & Carter maybe 5/6 times and it always been excellent. When it comes to a Sunday roast I’d rather go to a proper carvery establishment and pay a 6th of the price.
Hi Gary..enjoyed your miller and Carter Sunday dinner review and I feel most people wouldn’t spend over £66 for a Sunday dinner for two never mind for a family of four for example and as you rightly said the Sunday dinner you had wasn’t really a Sunday dinner was it?? so milller and carter should see what they are selling and the pricing if they want to get into that Sunday lunch market . Looking forward to your next review Gary and have a great weekend.
I was brought up to never season food until tasted as its rude. That is why salt pepper etc is on the table. Everyone has different tastes and requirements.
Great Video Gary, that Rib eye was looking more Medium well, quite expensive once you’ve divided it up,and the New pots deffo look like they had been dropped in the fryer, keep up the good work mate 👍
The Greyhound out at Wigginton near Tring. Fabulous family Sunday lunch the other week for £18 each. You need to book and come with a big appetite. The portions are huge and everything is homemade.
No way is that worth £33.25 each! I gotta say NO!NO!NO for crispy potatoes. That ain’t no substitute for proper roast potatoes 😢 Fair comments as usual Gary
Oh no!!! I've just come from a local pub The Tap House, Sunday lunch with an extra portion of roasts and gravy, just under 15 quid, stuffed, absolutely beautiful and I bought the leftovers for my 2 fur babies, happy Sunday!!!! Hope you're next one is better xx
Another solid review mate. I must admit as soon as I saw that steak I was like MEDIUM. Lol Btw - next time you go for a curry , if you can - i would love you too try a " railway lamb curry " I had one in an Indian restaurant last night , I think it's from around Jaipur , and blimey ... Hi Gary Miller and Carter are definitely a mixed franchise. Some branches are very good and some are very poor. My advice to them is just do a proper Sunday Lunch and do it well or just stick to steaks as you say. This is a very poor expensive idea that’s just not worth it on any level. 3/10 for me on this one. Another super review as always mate
Thank you for another very honest, yet very polite, review Gary. I. Really appreciate your experienced reviews. Ive learnt a lot from you. Hi Cameraman.
Haven't even finished the video but I can tell it's not going to be a good one when the greens and Yorkshire pudding are the only things that get Gary smiling.
Hey Gary those yorkies are not made on the premises, they look like supermarket yorkies. M&C are very hit and miss. The one in Stratford on Av I thought was very nice but the one in Manchester city centre was awful. I try to avoid them xx
You are doing a fantastic job of this channel. Very well produced, engaging and interesting content and your personality, if I may say so, really shines through. You really do come over as someone you’d be happy to sit down and get outside of a roast with. I have to thank you for not being influenced by any of these places, you say it like it is. I love what you did here, for example, and cut it in half and showed what you get from your £33. More power to you!
Hi Gary! For the equivalent of around $130 AUD, I'd be disappointed too. For that price you should be walking away feeling really satisfied & very happy with the whole meal. I would have thought a couple of drinks & some house made sauces might be included. Far too mediocre & it's not good when the stand-out item is the gravy. It all seemed quite "gimmicky" & a cheeky way to overcharge for what you're getting. I can prepare quite a good roast at home myself, so it's not something I've ever really paid for as a meal out. I just now saw your very sweet reply to my comment on your Golden Chippy video. I think you are a lovely man & I can only imagine that you are a joy to your son, your mum, your other family & friends. ♥️ I'm travelling down to Melbourne tomorrow for work with some colleagues... I love watching all of your reviews, but I'm not sure if I'll get much of a chance to see them over the next couple of weeks, as it's going to be very busy. I certainly don't want you to think I've disappeared! But, I'll watch & comment wherever I can. Take care lovely Gary & Cameraman & I'll see you soon. 💙🥰💙🥰💙
Its the same with all these major chain restaurants? If i want a roast, the dedicated places like Toby are difficult to beat, both in quality and value.
The thing with M&C is that in a world where companies like Heinz and Richmond and Cathedral City rule their respective fields despite being far from the 'best' available, it's clear that image and brand is more important to most people. Miller and Carter present their establishments like high end eateries and I think it genuinely fools people into thinking it's better than it is. Their food is fine - I don't think it's *BAD* or anything, but it's not good value. I don't think they're competing with Toby Carvery by the way, as they are owned by the same company
Once again, such a comfortable feeling in that joint. Always preferred that look. For a pub, especially so. Very few pubs like that in my town. And I think America in general.
Hope you are well Gary. Please could you consider reviewing fellow UA-camr Thomas Straker 'STRAKER'S' restaurant. Looks like only lunchtime available at the moment. If you reach out to him you could possibly do an interview, behind the scenes also.
As a Finnish person I really liked The St Georges Taverna/pub next to the Victoria station: Chicken sundayroast. Price/value was right and as a foreigner the foodelevator from downstairs was something I haven't seen 😊
That price means: • 2 large chicken breasts • Mix and match of any 4: large chicken breast, 8oz beef, pork and lamb chops with cranberry, horseradish, apple and mint sauce respectively • 4 huge Yorkshire puddings with proper fluffy insides • 2 good sized spuds, halved and roasted with skins on • 4 each, whole roast carrots and parsnips, or a fist sized lump of mash • Fist sized lump of sage and onion stuffing • Some roast sprouts and/or cauliflower • The heavy had better be thick as a Geordie's accent • A good or unique take on it to give it the signature; like a special marinade or a serving with steak cut chips loaded with cheesy mince, peppers and onions • A pint, or two, of my choice Edit - I recommend the Pheasant in Bedford
I know You only really rate food, but You have to stay a night in the Ruskin Hotel in Blackpool! Not just a great hotel for the entertainment, but a "high quality" all you can eat breakfast is their selling point! Great quality and value for only £12!
“First ones here” and a disappointment such a shame everyone seems to have a different Opinion on what a Sunday roast should be done nowadays. You can’t beat a normal Sunday dinner Gary ❤️
Top notch reviews as always mate, glad you’re all done with Gordon’s restaurants. Been here from the start, appreciate what you do. I said before, takes my mind off things Hopefully you won’t be disappointed with the next restaurant that comes your way :)
They could easily do a Beef Rib roast cut very thick - very popular in the US. I wouuld have sent the meat back. You can't remove the cooking. Also putting garlic butter in the vegetables isn't for everyone. No excuse for dry chicken because they are a steakhouse. Sometimes you need a non steak main for a group where most love steak but one or two don't.
I think this whole menu needs rethinking Paul, I understand they are trying something different but it just doesn’t work for the money, I did speak with the management afterwards and gave him my thoughts.
Hi Gary, hope your well. Just want to say I really love your channel. Keep up the good work. Also with the lamb rump, it looks like they have undercooked it when it was whole!! Realised it when they sliced it, so they finished it under the grill or oven. That’s how you get the uneven cooking!!
Love your reviews Gary. I’m in Ireland and well remember when I stayed in digs in a small village, Blidworth, Mansfield a mining town. At weekends, I got the most amazing meal from my landlady. A typical roast beef with all the extras. So delicious I still compare it to every other roast beef I have ever eaten. Haven’t had better. That’s a long time ago and I had full board for £6 a week. No Carrots? No Peas? No Mash?
I do believe Gary had two yorkshire puddings.
Yep, really poor stuff
@@pippin1ful That meal was for two so the two Yorkshires represent one each. The bare minimum I would say
@@leegreen67 Well, 1 would be the min - as any less would be ZERO :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
My experience when ordering a meal for 2 at most restaurants is that what I'm actually ordering is a hearty but very expensive meal for 1.
That’s definitely not good to hear, thank you for letting me know
No roast potatoes and calling it a roast dinner? They are not even trying!
Surprised they even bothered with the meat!

Our Beefeater ended up as a Miller & Carter.
The Beefeater was very popular. Sad to see it go.
I’ve been to the Miller & Carter once, never again, overpriced and not at all welcoming.
Mine ended up as a Costa😢😢
That is very disappointing to hear Keegan
Gary, great video as always 👍 ❤
I just watched it with my lovely mum and the first thing she said was "wheres the brussel sprouts and carrots.. He needs mint sauce with the lamb, horseradish or mustard for the beef "😂 Second thing she said was "those yorkies dont look fresh to me, there prob brought in frozen" I'm not going to argue with an old skool cook.

That’s what I think too.. the yorkies are bought in frozen, and I’m a chef

Lost my job last month at age 64 . Mostly eating potatoes and onions ( fried ) . Breakfast at that price 😂 I absolutely love your videos 😂 Thank you for keeping me sane in these crazy times ❤
Jesus, that sucks, hope you're alright!
It's really vicious to lay people off that close to retirement. They know full well that it's close to impossible to get hired at that age! 🤬
I hope things are going to work out for you.
I'm so so so sorry to hear that. You will be back in work very soon, please take care and all the best.
Jeez that sucks. It should be mandatory to pay one month severance for each year of service. The company I work for more, or less does this for layoffs and my coworkers your age sometimes keep hanging on hoping to get laid off rather than voluntarily retire 😂
Mind you they don’t do it out of charity, it’s to avoid wrongful termination issues.

Ganley's roast from £17.00-£24.00 is the winner for me. Its in Morden! "Come on now Gary, you know you want to give it a go!"😂

I'm sick of saying too many places in the uk(not just eating places)are only interested in extracting as much money from punters as possible often with poor product & service😤💯
I completely agree with you Justin. Very exhausating
I hardly eat out anymore as I don’t like the feeling of being ripped off every time I leave the restaurant
Gary should have a “I’d eat here” guide. I hate these chain pubs with a vengeance.
I suggested this and I think he’s got something planned. I for one would make use of it when travelling
Would love a Gary recommends book ... far more relevant and trustworthy than any other guide
I have something planned for the website!

Thank you Kevin
I agree I wouldn't go there for a roast as u can almost just as good at Toby and carvery or some other pub. Don't get me wrong this is 1 of my fav restaurants but their main market is steaks and I wouldn't pay a premium price for a roast just because of their brand name
@@MampsUKI mean, you do have one of their best steaks on this roast meal, leaps and bounds above Toby's carvery, that's shocking

Thank you David and indeed
For two of us I would pay £66 especially as it’s not a “normal” Sunday roast. Nice to have something different sometimes and I like the idea of the Camembert mash and garlic veg. if I want a traditional roast I’d go to Toby Carvery.
While it's nice to have a treat from time to time. For the price of that meal, you could stock your fridge and freezer up for a weeks worth of meals.
This was not a treat afterwards you would feel completely ripped off
@GaryEats oh absolutely, I totally agree👍 I'd imagine you'd feel more like what have i done.

Its the same with all these major chain restaurants? If i want a roast, the dedicated places like Toby are difficult to beat, both in quality and value.
It is better to go to somewhere like Toby I agree, David
The thing with M&C is that in a world where companies like Heinz and Richmond and Cathedral City rule their respective fields despite being far from the 'best' available, it's clear that image and brand is more important to most people. Miller and Carter present their establishments like high end eateries and I think it genuinely fools people into thinking it's better than it is. Their food is fine - I don't think it's *BAD* or anything, but it's not good value.
I don't think they're competing with Toby Carvery by the way, as they are owned by the same company
Of course, I more meant competing in the same location
Interesting.
Once again, such a comfortable feeling in that joint. Always preferred that look. For a pub, especially so. Very few pubs like that in my town. And I think America in general.

I have to say, I do agree with you
That price means:
• 2 large chicken breasts
• Mix and match of any 4: large chicken breast, 8oz beef, pork and lamb chops with cranberry, horseradish, apple and mint sauce respectively
• 4 huge Yorkshire puddings with proper fluffy insides
• 2 good sized spuds, halved and roasted with skins on
• 4 each, whole roast carrots and parsnips, or a fist sized lump of mash
• Fist sized lump of sage and onion stuffing
• Some roast sprouts and/or cauliflower
• The heavy had better be thick as a Geordie's accent
• A good or unique take on it to give it the signature; like a special marinade or a serving with steak cut chips loaded with cheesy mince, peppers and onions
• A pint, or two, of my choice
Edit - I recommend the Pheasant in Bedford
