I thought of sage and onion or bread sauce, but I would never eat chicken with lamb and beef. In fact I'd never eat lamb and beef together. They all need to be eaten separately in my opinion. I like mint sauce and redcurrent jelly on my lamb, but not together. The best roast lamb I've eaten was bought from a butcher in Leyburn, North Yorkshire. It came off the Dales, and didn't need either of the sauces. The moorland herbs had already flavoured the meat. I'll always remember that Sunday lunch, Nicky, wherever you are now.

If it was me I would ask them for the various sauces if they've not been already offered to you at the time of the food arriving.....you can't go through the meal assuming don't have. If you have asked and they don't have ( which I would struggle to believe) then that's one issue . But if you haven't asked and it's just a case of the staff being untrained in the small detail ( an important detail at that ) then saying the service was exemplary raises my eyebrows Gary.😟
My thoughts are you can't just complain if it's just assumed without fact.. lol

A friend of mine and her family which included children visited M&C for Xmas lunch last year. For nearly £1,200 she said it was the most awful meal and experience she’d ever had. Not enough staff for the amount of patrons and the food was cold and such small portions. Food for Boxing Day had to be consumed when they got home. When they complained they were given a £60 voucher!! They had saved all year to not have to cook on Xmas Day.
I could sense watching you eat how dry and overcooked this extremely expensive meal was. Yorkshires looked like a certain brand Auntie makes. I would have complained so hats off to you Gary for not losing it for the price they were charging.
As for my friend, her family have still saved so they can eat out but this time it’s the local country pub!! First time I’ve truly felt sorry for you Gary and you’ve tried some dreadful food on your travels. Onwards and upwards as always…and don’t forget the indigestion tablets!! 😂 ❤️

You also mentioned they were the best part of your inedible experience. Still I would have taken the voucher and would still be looking for a better compensation nearly a year on!! 😡

After covid, I went to the Cardiff one. Bill was supposed to be about £85, was the black angus ribeye in three peppercorn gravy.. steak was incredibly chewy, ordered a medium rare was closer to a well done, had to send it back which the waiter was very rude about. Missus had the same but ordered medium well, same thing her steak had charring on it too - burned.
When they brought a new plate exact same thing so for the price getting burned steaks we were disappointed, we'd usually have just ate it and went home with a sour face but we complained, they slashed 80% off our bill knowing it was their mistake, so it came to around £19 but considering we only had a bite of each we were both very disappointed, essentially £19 for two glasses of wine and some greens, we grabbed a KFC bucket on the way home - thankfully that was exactly as expected!

Hi Gary! For the equivalent of around $130 AUD, I'd be disappointed too. For that price you should be walking away feeling really satisfied & very happy with the whole meal. I would have thought a couple of drinks & some house made sauces might be included. Far too mediocre & it's not good when the stand-out item is the gravy. It all seemed quite "gimmicky" & a cheeky way to overcharge for what you're getting. I can prepare quite a good roast at home myself, so it's not something I've ever really paid for as a meal out.
I just now saw your very sweet reply to my comment on your Golden Chippy video. I think you are a lovely man & I can only imagine that you are a joy to your son, your mum, your other family & friends. ♥️ I'm travelling down to Melbourne tomorrow for work with some colleagues... I love watching all of your reviews, but I'm not sure if I'll get much of a chance to see them over the next couple of weeks, as it's going to be very busy. I certainly don't want you to think I've disappeared! But, I'll watch & comment wherever I can. Take care lovely Gary & Cameraman & I'll see you soon. 💙🥰💙🥰💙

The thing with M&C is that in a world where companies like Heinz and Richmond and Cathedral City rule their respective fields despite being far from the 'best' available, it's clear that image and brand is more important to most people. Miller and Carter present their establishments like high end eateries and I think it genuinely fools people into thinking it's better than it is. Their food is fine - I don't think it's *BAD* or anything, but it's not good value.
I don't think they're competing with Toby Carvery by the way, as they are owned by the same company

    That price means:
    • 2 large chicken breasts
    • Mix and match of any 4: large chicken breast, 8oz beef, pork and lamb chops with cranberry, horseradish, apple and mint sauce respectively
    • 4 huge Yorkshire puddings with proper fluffy insides
    • 2 good sized spuds, halved and roasted with skins on
    • 4 each, whole roast carrots and parsnips, or a fist sized lump of mash
    • Fist sized lump of sage and onion stuffing
    • Some roast sprouts and/or cauliflower
    • The heavy had better be thick as a Geordie's accent
    • A good or unique take on it to give it the signature; like a special marinade or a serving with steak cut chips loaded with cheesy mince, peppers and onions
    • A pint, or two, of my choice
Edit - I recommend the Pheasant in Bedford

They could easily do a Beef Rib roast cut very thick - very popular in the US. I wouuld have sent the meat back. You can't remove the cooking. Also putting garlic butter in the vegetables isn't for everyone. No excuse for dry chicken because they are a steakhouse. Sometimes you need a non steak main for a group where most love steak but one or two don't.

Hi Gary, hope your well. Just want to say I really love your channel. Keep up the good work. Also with the lamb rump, it looks like they have undercooked it when it was whole!! Realised it when they sliced it, so they finished it under the grill or oven. That’s how you get the uneven cooking!!

Love your reviews Gary. I’m in Ireland and well remember when I stayed in digs in a small village, Blidworth, Mansfield a mining town. At weekends, I got the most amazing meal from my landlady.
A typical roast beef with all the extras. So delicious I still compare it to every other roast beef I have ever eaten. Haven’t had better.
That’s a long time ago and I had full board for £6 a week.
Can’t understand why people invest huge money in opening a restaurant and then serve very ordinary food. Doesn’t make sense.
