STOMP is 1 hour 45 mins no intermission
The show has been running for 29 years and will end on January 8th, with 2 performances. The show was an East Village staple, and it's a shame it's going. While the show does not feature a story, each one of its dancers has a character to them. There is no dialogue. It comprises short 3-5 minute songs made with different instruments. It starts with a man sweeping, looking like someone backstage who wandered on set before the audience slowly realizes they're a dancer. There's a sign on the wall that gets flipped over from phone to no phone (you see no phone to phone in the video), which got a cheer and a laugh. The first number is with brooms, with the others comprising various other junk like sinks, shopping carts, lighters, pots and pans, cans, buckets, sticks, suitcases, clapping, and other items. The show is extremely creative. The second act included clapping and getting the audience involved. The pots and pans have three dancers strapped to harnesses swinging back and forth and hitting the correct pots and pans connected to the wall. In the middle, there was a newspaper segment with less of a musical performance and more of a charade performance, with one character interacting with the others reading the paper. In that order, he played a baby, a dog, and a priest. After that man made a lot of noise, the comic relief character clicked his pen, and everyone shushed him, ending the scene on that joke. It seemed to be a pseudo-intermission. In one scene in the pitch dark, the dancers had one lighter in each hand. The two people on either end tapped them for music, and the dancers in the middle opened and closed it to breathtaking effect. There were 9 dancers. The costumes were very streetscape, extremely-worn style. An Asian man was the comic relief character. A singular rope, like from the WWE rings, was brought across the stage when they were rolling shopping carts around the stage. The comic relief character brought a suitcase. The suitcase one was impressive too. The ending is caught on camera.
