This is actually their 4th single. Their first single was an earlier version of West End Girls, produced by Bobby Orlando, and released in April 1984 Then, they released One More Chance, also produced by Bobby Orlando in June 1984. Their third single, was Opportunies (Let's Make Lots of Money). This was released in July 1985. This version was produced by J. J. Jeczalik (part of Art of Noise) and Nicholas Froome. These were all produced and recorded before they even began working on their debut album, Please. The July 1985 release of Opportunies was also their first single to have a music video.
One of the best British exports from the 1980's (and there were many). Big hit here in Trinidad and Tobago. Love how this was just the intro for what brilliance that was coming from their next album at the time. 💯❤💥👍
I can totally understand why people in Trinidad would like this, because the drum machine pattern has a bit of a soca rhythm to it plus the bass is on point too.
I was born in 1965, so was 20 when this came out...and, WAS dancing to it in the clubs. It was a glorious time and I would do it all over again. But, good to know younger generations enjoy it, too.
@@susannemcdaniel5782right? I was born in the early 90s but my mother would jam to a lot of these as I grew up, so I ended up falling in love with 70s and 80s music. Somehow I ended up getting into 60s on my own though lol.
I think you mean 1985, Neil Tennant was still writing for Smash Hits magazine back in 1983, I remember his last article when he said ‘I’m off to be a pop star now’ and that was late 1984.
I love how Neil is trying his best to mime along to the song to seem propper, whilst Chris is like: Screw it, I'll keep pressing these few keys in particular.
os pet shop boys sabe como niguem fazer aranjos para suas musica sao muito criativos gosto muito das musicas deles sempre mantem a qualidade das musicas
Its hard for people to understand now (Steve Wright was right), but this song stood out like few others at the time. So atmospheric, but also danceable. I was 13 and it was one of the first 7" singles I bought and played and played and played and played until I knew it inside out. And it got me through a shitty time at a posh Surrey school I hated.

Watching this in 2024 before bed time. Just needed to feel that 80s vibe. 😊

Never gets old
60’s years old here and still love this song and group!!
Oh God, the memories!
Tudo era tão bom, quero de volta...
I wish I were there in 1980's
Bang//// AND KNOW THEN WHAT I KNOW NOW!!!!!!
I was, and dont remember it!
Beautiful ❤ It definitely was❤❤❤❤
RIP Steve wright, and what an absolute banger
So classy, unusual and excellent! This song never gets old.
The "new" video is much easier to follow than Elvis "Thats all right" from '54. Amelia pavers with the SNE.
Everything you need to know about the sounds of the 80s is in this song.
The first and the best, still sounds perfect today and one of my favourite tracks of the 80s.
Magic Knight absolutely!

@@scmtuk3662 think I was meaning to say the first single to really break through. The first version of west end girls really sounds unfinished.
@@magicknight8412 I think that was the work from Stephen Hague
The unusual band and the unusual song that is the key to their longevity and the charm and unique sound that has kept them going strong!!!! Xo Xavier
Could've been a one hit wonder... but didn't. incredible how they are still going strong.

I wish I was born in the 70’s and go out partying to these songs, LIVE! 😩💖
I feel you. I was 5 in 85. Wish I had been old enough to party.

Nope... Chris is playing the synth bass part on the keys and doing it correctly.
Did Chris ever sing any of the songs?
@@r4h4al he does sing in a few... e.g. Paninaro, we all feel better in the dark, etc.
arent they one of the few bands play this live a few times simply because there was so many people in the song they couldn't mime it ?
