This film impressed me a lot, and honestly- as a rape victim myself, I really appreciated the scene. It was of course horrific and really, really hard to sit through, but it was the first time that I had seen a depiction of SA that actually felt like it properly showed how terrible the act is. Everyone else seems to want to pan away, to imply the horror, but us real life assault victims don't get to do that. This movie, in that scene, told the story of how depraved and life ruining and exhaustingly terrible it really is, and I absolutely love Irreversible for it.
@@AnimeniacSimey that's really sweet, thank you. I'm in a much better place around better people, and it's been years since my sexual abuse ended, so thankfully I am doing much better now than I was back then

It's one of those great films that you'd only want to watch once and never again. The rape scene I felt was not exploitive but rather showed the audience that the horror of being raped is not meant to be digestible or easily forgotten. The film moves backwards in time but you cannot unsee what you saw and therefore cannot take refuge even when the characters are happy and carefree. It's a horror movie where there is no happy place one can retreat to.
Man, that was SO well put. I guess those would kinda be the words I would use (had I been able to articulate it 🤭). Thx, it's always nice to find a more accurate description. Have a groovy day!
I saw this movie "by mistake". I was at a friend's place, and he lended me a bunch of DVD to watch later, and I watched most of them without checking the synopsis or anything, so when this one happened, I thought it was just a movie like any other. Problem was, I was alone, a little bit drunk, and depressed when I saw it... Didn't improve my mood a bit.
I went on a Noé spree several years back one winter when I was pretty suicidal and aside from “Love” which I’d already seen a year or two before that, I watched everything of his from the original “Carne” to “Climax.” Aside from “Enter the Void,” pretty much everything else just made me feel worse because he’s known for being very nihilistic, even though I enjoyed the films themselves on an artistic level.
I bought it second hand from a video store and took it back and got a different one in place of that. It messed me up. I didn't finish it or finish the long scene that got me to turn it off.
It's crazy how, in a movie where we already know what happens, and yet we're still hoping something changes. Every section of the movie just feels like a chance for us to change it
One of the reasons the reverse chronology is effective is because the person you finally get to know is someone you know is gone. You might literally go from violence to peace, but every viewer knows what is coming for Alex.

Nice breakdown! I don’t find it to be a hopeless or nihilistic film (despite the closing title), because at the end you awaken back into your real life and you at least still have the chance to reevaluate your life, almost like Scrooge in Christmas Carol (ha!).
Now I'm really intrigued about Gasper Noe's films. I haven't seen a ton of work from foreign filmmakers, but maybe I'll check him out. I recently watched Buffalo '66 because of your "literally me" video, and I couldn't help but notice how both it and Irreversible seem to take different approaches in tackling similar themes pertaining to our past and future, as well as the weight of our decisions in affecting it.
No matter what you think of the film, I think Noé does a pretty good job making it fair with the backwards narrative. Even before... that scene, you are tested if this film simply isn't for you. First, you see the brutal murder accompanied by the nauseatingly shaky camera and drone sounds. Then, you see Monica Bellucci's mangled face while she's carried away on a strecther. This slowly and creepily leads up to the tunnel scene, and by that point, you already know what's coming up. If the movie was told chronologically, nothing would build-up to the halfway point and it would be just audience exploitative shlock plain and simple. The scenes that come after give another perspective to the story because they're blissfully unaware of what's coming up and it indeed shows how fragile life can be.
"There are no bad deeds just deeds" seems like a far cry from the butcher who said everyone was awful except him.... after he caused his wife to miscarriage.
It's been a long time since I've seen I Stand Alone/Carne but my guess would be that by the time of the ending of I Stand Alone, his perspective had changed somewhat. He probably saw how awful a person he is, and came to the the conclusion that none of it matters. Turning bad deeds, to simply just deeds.
Enter the Void and Irreversible are great films. Noe revisits the topic of relationships and interpersonal failures with Love which while pornographic and somewhat narcissistic (the main character wants to name his son Gaspar) is still compelling
i remember watching this movie by coincidence very late at night, and it was suddenly when that scene happened, to this day, i never had the guts to watch the complete film

Another piece of foreshadowing is around the subject of sex; Marcus is emotional and passionate whereas Pierre is rough and blunt. On their path of revenge Marcus is emotional and passionate about finding The Tapeworm which screws him over after he attacks the wrong man and is taken advantage of, Pierre on the other hand, wielding a phallic object, essentially skullfucks Marcus' attacker to death.

Irreversible is a movie that I absolutely love for many reasons but have no need to actually watch again, if you know what I mean. This and Dead Man's Shoes.
This has been burned in my brain for 15 years. Owned it, got rid of it, bought it again one day cuz I know it’s a goddamn masterpiece. And when you think, right around that time she was used in the Matrix films as window dressing, it boggles the mind. I watched Enter the Void on acid once, too. That was cathartic...
the story from carne is in the wire as well, only it's johny weeks telling bubbles about the plot with the blood on her pants, only it's told as it it happened in baltimore. I only know this as I've watched the wire in it's entirety over 100 times now (not an exaggeration, I have watched it around 10 to 20 times a year since it came out) because I've seen it so many times, I've picked up on the most minute details.
I always found it overly pretentious. Any excuse to cover up the fact Noe obviously just wanted to make a exploit revenge film. Tbh most of the French extreme films are like this. Gets a pass from me.
Exactly. It’s gross. And the fact that the actress who had to act this scene out can’t even watch it years later shows just how harmful it really is. I HATE when movies/tv does this. Like how are you about to make a film that is basically soft core rape porn, then try to act like you are some sort of intellectually superior individual? I mean just on this video alone I saw one guy in who’s comment read something along the lines of “I have jacked off to the r@p3 scene hundreds of times, it’s perfect. I have never watched the rest of the film and will never watch the rest of the film.” Honestly if your movie is giving r@pi$ts content to pleasure themselves to, there is something wrong with your shitty movie. Not intellectual at all. On the contrary it is cheap, antiquated, misogynistic, caveman brained garbage. There is nothing smart or deep about exploitative s3xu@l violence. It’s not surprising though that this wave of extreme films came from France. There are soooo many infamous p3d0ph!les from that past 100 years that came from their ruling elite class. An entire upper class of worthless inbred mouth breathers. They glorify this type of stuff over there and then pat each other on the back for how “progressive” and “edgy” they are.
long time ago i ran accross this movie, damn it fucked with my head so bad, i think i might just watch it again, perhaps this time ill be ready for it...
Really enjoy your channel. Yes this is a not fun movie to watch. The title is perfect. Showing the audience that things a person goes through and even up to the deed of murder is Irreversible. I have it in my queue and will watch again. I watched it 1st in my surround sound and it has a tone that will make you crazy because of the constant pitch. Cannot wait for your next one.
I just finished watching this movie cause I kept hearing about it on a lot of top disturbing movies videos, and all of them kept saying how people walked out on it, and lately I’ve been so interested in movies that are disturbing and experimental, so I watched this and honestly it’s a masterpiece regardless of its graphic content, yeah I get it but the movie has a good message and is written so well, plus it’s realistic, that 9 minute r word scene was so uncomfortable to watch but I felt helpless that I couldn’t do anything but watch then when I saw the person in the back witness Alex getting r worded I got so mad, a lot of people don’t seem to understand how serious stuff like this is, cause most movies sugar coat r word scenes like they only last a few seconds so you really don’t see how bad it is it basically just gets brushed off, but Gasper giving a 9 minute scene of watching her get assaulted like this is so hard to watch cause us the viewer can’t do anything but cry, that’s why I love watching movies that go over the top cause they show you the harsh reality of how things can be, but no one likes to appreciate movies like that cause of how graphic the content is, but movies like this have a lesson in them like how this was about time, like there’s so many “what if’s” that could’ve happened if Alex or the people around her made different choices to prevent what happened to her, Marcus, and Pierre, they all could’ve made better choices that night so that they didn’t have their fates happen to them and they could’ve had a better life moving forward, it’s just sad to see how everything happened and seeing how Alex was happy and pregnant at the end of the movie it still just felt so depressed cause of knowing what happened to her earlier in the film/what is gonna happen to her just hours later😢😭
@TheKinoCorner Just an FYI. The music that you're using in the background, is migraine inducing. Couldn't get past a minute before I had to completely stop and put it on my BANNED list.

You're missing out
Exactly.
I have never watched the rest of the film and will never watch the rest of the film.”
Honestly if your movie is giving r@pi$ts content to pleasure themselves to, there is something wrong with your shitty movie.
@@Screechingradical You needa stfu and enjoy quality film. Not everyone is as soft as you
Hey Kino, you warned people to skip to the next chapter to avoid spoilers, but didn't include chapters.
The music in that one scene....you know the one
Every self censorship from fear of UA-cam should have the text blame Susan and a photo of her appear
That Andrei Rublev poster in the background 👌🏻
Can you review megamind next? It's an interesting movie about society's judgement that affects people.
long time ago i ran accross this movie, damn it fucked with my head so bad, i think i might just watch it again, perhaps this time ill be ready for it...
I really love this film.
I was STUNNED 😯. Only need to see once. Try watching 'Night mother '...
Just discovered your channel with the Antichrist video and now I'm hooked. +1 and subbed.
You’re a madman, no fucks given. Respect.
@TheKinoCorner
Just an FYI.
The music that you're using in the background, is migraine inducing.
Couldn't get past a minute before I had to completely stop and put it on my BANNED list.
I saw this, but forgot the name! It's a gem!
You have very exquisite taste in films. I like that.
Great video! Love your sincere warning at the beginning. Just one question: did you say “herding cats” or “hurting cats”? 😂
pretty sure it was "herding" considering the context!😄
Can I ask where you got your FLCL Canti print behind you?
Time heals all wounds via the destruction of all things. Every wound is a thing and everything thing is a wound.
Eventually we will return to a wound-less nothingness. Seeing that now is forever - that “eventually” is always happening. There are no wounds. There are no things.
Thank you for reading my spiritual psychobabble, and good luck proving it wrong.
oh that poor girl
I think Gaspar Noé is one of the greatest director alive. Rather it is artistic execution (Enter the void is remarkable) or catching on film such a feeling of nightmare and utter dread... there is no one that will kick you as hard in the nuts then Gaspar.
funny how things are, I was 13 when i saw this movie, and it didn't bother me at all.
I had less emotional intelligence back then.
or maybe i was traumatized by other movies and RE2 at a more younger age. probably. most likely.
So I need to pay to access you Patreon account to watch material that you do not have the rights to?
You need to do a collab with Disregarding Henry.
Loved the video
