Dope video, wish I could of gone this year. Do you notice much turbo lag with that GTX 3071R?
Not much, I’d say in the super low speed corners it would take a little extra work to get rolling but all in all it took the dragon like a champ!
The 3071 is too big for a street car on pump gas. They will only perform on LONG straights, but will be bogged down in twisties and everyday driving.
@@MegaHollywood1971 I actually daily drive this car on pump gas and it behaves well, it’s still twin scroll, it’s ball bearing and the a/r is still geared for a 2.0 to spool it up appropriately, it was still able to fire out of corners when in the right gear, if I was trying to take a 20 mph corner in 3rd then yeah it would bog down but if I was in second it would immediately build boost and fire out of the corner as it should. Is it laggier than an IS20 or an IS38? Absolutely. Is it this absolutely impossible turbo to drive on? Absolutely not. I’ve had this turbo on since September and once the tuning was dialed in it’s been just as drivable as it was when I picked it up from the dealership. I make peak boost at redline and it still starts to spool hard at around 3000rpm. There’s a reason Mamba offers not only a 2867, a 3071 and a 3076 for this platform and many people daily drive with all 3 with no driveability issues.

Now, after commenting on your over a year old WG Actuator ordeal, I see you went with a 3071R. Watching you above 4K and not accelerating means there is something wrong because you ain't movin'.
It’s called not putting my foot all the way in it. It’s front wheel drive I can’t just smash it out of the corner. See the short where I did go full throttle and it’s spinning in 3rd. So yeah I can’t go smash the throttle coming out of a corner especially up there where it could understeer straight into oncoming traffic and kill a motorcyclist. I was being smart.

Also, since it seems to me you're getting this turbo confused with a traditional T3/T4 GTX3071R, let me explain what this turbo actually is. It's a hybrid turbo based on the Golf R's IS38 turbo. the exhaust housing is identical with the only difference being it features a larger turbine wheel instead of the IS38's normal turbine. Hence why it still spools so low. it retains the Golf R's twinscroll setup as well, since as i said it's based on such. however the main core design is derived from the original Garrett GTX3071R, hence why Mamba branded it as such. The compressor side is heavily derived from the Garrett it takes it's name from. however it's been reworked to accept other MQB intake systems such as the "Cheap Autozone trash" you referenced in another video of mine. which btw i replaced due to it being a restriction issue that caused my WG Actuator issue you mentioned above. That's why this turbo is not "too big" for this car. it's literally derived from the Golf R's factory turbo, just larger.
