- I finally was able to get this tape done after 2 years of waiting. Here's DJ G-Ya (Yasuhiro Tsuji) crushing it at the 1995 Vestax World Finals, showing out serious, way ahead of its time beat-juggling technique.

I've got a report on this battle in an old issue of the great Rap Pages magazine. They also released an issue dedicated to Djs, back in '96, which featured interviews with the Piklz, the Junkies and many other big names from the time.
can you scan that report in? would love to see it
@@MichaelShum Actually it wasn't in Rap Pages, it was UK mag Hip Hop Connection. It was only a small report. From what I remember, from looking at it again last year, Melo-D won $10,000 worth of equipment for coming first. I seem to remember hearing that Excel, who came second, performed his set with a live drummer. I've completely forgotten where I heard that, though. The report is at my parents' house, and they live in another part of the UK to me.
Where did you get the footage? Did you ever get any of the Vestax 'Special DJ School' footage, featuring Q-Bert, 8-Ball, Shortkut and Rhettmatic?
Actually, 5 years after Melo-D won the $10,000 worth of equipment, Plus One won the Vestax World Final, and the prize that year was $20,000 worth of equipment, plus $2,000. You can tell the turntablism scene was at it's peak back then. I always wondered why A-Trak chose not to defend his title that year, seeing as he had just beaten Plus One in the final round of that year's ITF Advancement category battle.
Nice.
Fresh!
Only perfect 👍
Was DJ excel also in this competition too?
