    Evan I've been watching you and Jacob for over a year. Many thanks for all the adventures. I am claustrophobic and when I I first started watching I would pace in front of the TV watching snippets building up my tolerance. Months of watching allowed me to watch the entire adventure with moments of uneasy. Today I believe you are by yourself and that was tight. Only flashes of uneasy for me at your tightest moments. My uneasiness arises knowing your exploring new areas that might not allow you to turn around after having passed through very tight squeezes. Your attitude, spelunking knowledge and one with your capabilities display a consummate professional. Thanks for sharing.

If you make the correct decisions here in the flesh then ur spirit life will be a great journey with the most High .. however if you do not choose the correct path . I think ur spirit may not be satisfied with that decision but either way ur spirit will move on from the deminition of the living.

      People do. Maybe 2 or 300 times. I also wear different colored socks. It bothers people when we use bad grammer or have an untied shoe. They comment and it boosts the algorithm. It's a simple technique.

    When you enter such a room, how long do you usually stay there? And what do you do (when not filming)? Are you exploring? Or just "being"? Sitting there, having thoughts? Are you relaxed? I'm very curious on this because I could never ever do this.

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  Рік тому +2

      I generally try to film the exciting parts. So I'm just exploring around or working or mapping when the video isn't going. You can't sit still because the caves are freezing. Which is why we are always wearing heavy clothes. I used the drill hammer in this cave for a few hours before I got through that little passage. But I show like 10 seconds of the work.
      This time in a cave is completely dependent on the cave. Sometimes I go to a bunch of little caves and I'm barely there 10 minutes each. Sometimes I will be in a cave for a few days. I generally surface to sleep.

  • @cosmicmirrorstorm1797
    @cosmicmirrorstorm1797 9 місяців тому

    Wondering how you would try to measure chest size (that can fit through a squeeze) I’m not a big person. Although I spent many years powerlifting and manual labour and a have thick pecs and back.
    On Vancouver island, I tried getting through what seemed like a much bigger squeeze than what you guys do.
    And maybe the thickness of my sweater had something to do with it, but I could not get myself through.
    I know that you go caving with your father sometimes. I may be wrong, he seems bigger than me and he gets through stuff. Does it just come down to practicing? I’ve often tried to squeeze myself in between, as tight of fitting walls and other heavy objects as possible.

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  9 місяців тому

      Vancouver island certainly has its share of wonderful limestone caves.
      We like to say,we fit through what we fit through. It depends on the angle and clothes and the slickness of the rock. It's really helped us bringing pieces of plastic so we can slide on our chest. And obviously being a little bit thinner his helpful.
      I can usually fit through whatever I can get my head through. But every little pinch is so unique that's not always the case. About six and a half inches. That's like 800 cm or something, I don't know.
      Sometimes I don't fit I don't worry about it. But if I see significant passage on the far side I will bring tools in for scraping the wall a bit wider. Or I will strip down to a T-shirt and use sliders.

  • @perfect6537
    @perfect6537 Рік тому

    I have a question, I have a small cave near my house, when I went there I saw that its opening is about 47 centimeters and the opening leads to a very narrow and rather long tunnel that descends at an angle of almost 45 degrees and I don't know if I should enter it, should I enter "head first" or not enter at all? I don't know if I can even get out because gravity will make it hard for me to get out and will always pull me down right? To be honest, I'm a little overweight right now. I see your videos and I want to try it myself, but I also don't want to get stuck and put myself at risk.

    • @CalvinHikes
      @CalvinHikes  Рік тому +1

      If I was entering it I would first engineer some kind of camera device to send down the hole just to make sure it's safe for a short distance. Then I would enter it feat first with a rope and with others.
      But if I was literally you I would go on the Internet and try to find a caving group or a "grotto". These groups exist and are usually able to be contacted and would have interest in looking at that for you. That's low enough and styled enough where you would want to have help from an outside source. Doesn't need to be high level professionals but people who have crawled through caves before have a pretty good idea of what's safe.
      I can tell you when people contact our caving group with possible caves, we love it. The thought of new caves is always very exciting and we jump right on that stuff.
