An excellent piece Robbie. This attack has never been based on science. Politics has embedded itself within the science. Fishing and hunting will be the focus for groups targeting a sustainable wild harvest in Victoria. Fortunately the wider outdoor rec users understand the precedent a ban on duck hunting will establish for other industries. We have a fight on our hands. Thanks for your great support.
Unfortunately for us hunters we live in a democracy and our governments will always act for the majority of voters. Equally unfortunately, the vast majority of our voting population lives in the capital cities and only a tiny percentage of them are hunters and in fact the biggest percentage of people will even question the right for any sort of firearm ownership let alone the right to catch and kill for our own use. While I totally agree that we need to use statistics and science to back up our arguments we also need to think about how we convince the vast numbers of city folk to respect our rights to hunt game of all description. In my opinion we could promote the idea that hunting has been an activity that mankind has always been involved in, indeed our very survival as a species depended on it. Only my opinion mind you. Cheers Hoff.
Rob the information you have is not totally correct. The first duck season in Victoria wasn't in 1952. It was in 1862 under the "Act to Preserve Game - 1862". The 1862 season opened on December 1, 1862 and closed on July 31, 1863. There was an unlimited bag limit at that time. Bag limits weren't introduced until the duck season of 1916 when the bag limit was 15 ducks. So in Victoria we have a duck hunting tradition that goes back over 160 years, not just 70 years.
The Andrews Government takes the high moral ground in defending Indigenous culture and history, but pays disrespect to our remarkably valuable caucasian heritage, culture and histroy. of hunting.
firstly thank you for the comment! I should have stated when I could access data on duck seasons spanned back to 1952. That is such cool information John, thank you! Such a massively rich tradition of duck hunting!
In the modern days of social media images spread far and wide, these images include idiots killing ducks and not consuming them and dumping them carelessly for others to see. Because of the actions of a few, duck hunting is over in Australia.
Unfortunately t the fact is that ALL our state governments are urban centric and their bases of power exist in "progressive" inner city suburbs. Duck hunting is an easy win for them and unfortuantely the first domino to fall. This is happening nationwide with pressures being placed on hunters and shooters by people who have nothing invested in any of the issues but because they are idealogues. Victoria's duck season will end as it has done in other states and that will begin the end of quail and deer hunting and then the restrictions on owning firearms will be considered, like it has been in WA. It's an all to familiar scene for Australian hunters and a sick obsession with controlling people's lives because they don't live like you or think like you. Thank you for highlighting this, but I feel that politics and idealogy trump science and tradition, especially in Victoria.
Although you think the sun is shining from your rear end it's not. Have you ever heard the term conservation in your life? If you are against hunting and man being able to source our own you are against the laws of nature itself. Hunting is NATURAL, SUSTAINABLE AND ETHICAL
