- democracynow.org - President Obama has just passed a little-noticed milestone, according to The New York Times: Obama has now been at war longer than any president in U.S. history-longer than George W. Bush, Franklin D. Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. Obama has taken military action in at least seven countries: Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia. Just last month, President Obama announced the deployment of 250 more Special Operations troops to Syria in a move that nearly doubles the official U.S. presence in the country. As war spreads across the globe, a record 60 million people were driven from their homes last year. Experts warn the refugee crisis may also worsen due to the impacts of global warming. Over the weekend, NASA released data showing 2016 is on pace to be by far the hottest year ever, breaking the 2015 record. Meanwhile, many fear a new nuclear arms race has quietly begun, as the United States, Russia and China race to build arsenals of smaller nuclear weapons. These multiple crises come as voters in the United States prepare to elect a new president. We speak with one of the world’s preeminent intellectuals, Noam Chomsky, institute professor emeritus at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he has taught for more than 50 years. His latest book is titled "Who Rules the World?"

Mr. Chomsky is so right on its scary.. Being as old as we are, him and I, we can almost feel what is going to happen in your near future.. The Hand writing is on the wall...
Why is he never challenged?
Where is the rest of the video?
As usual Noam is telling the truth. It's so rare in the media that it's seems radical to some I'm sure. He was a little overly kind with respect to the seriousness of global warming, but I can understand why. The truth is going to be a bit hard for people to swallow since scientists have been censoring their own findings for quite some time now as they all lead to an obvious conclusion.
Snow in June, freezing temperatures in July, a killer frost in August: "The most gloomy and extraordinary weather ever seen," according to one Vermont farmer. Two centuries ago, 1816 became the year without a summer for millions of people in parts of North America and Europe, leading to failed crops and near-famine conditions. While they didn't know the chill's cause at the time, scientists and historians now know that the biggest volcanic eruption in human history, on the other side of the world - Mount Tambora in Indonesia in April 1815 - spewed millions of tons of dust, ash and sulfur dioxide into the atmosphere, temporarily changing the world's climate and dropping global temperatures by as much as 3 degrees. In addition to food shortages, the natural climate change caused disease outbreaks, widespread migration of people looking for a better home and religious revivals as people tried to make sense of it all. ...
You examine systemic cognition and I examine emotional evolutionary cognition. Everything within this systemic perception has no reality and there for, no benefit for human evolution! I have many times tried to make connection with you Noam! I do understand that my retraction from the school (system) may not interest you, but I had seen early on what was being taught. By examining societal behavior sense the 5th grade and not participating in there program they passed me over and over until I just stopped going. Now 48 years old self educated, I have studied all of society and especially Governments! I had planned to destroy all notions of lies and misconceptions and in the process, found a unconditional love for ALL. I only wanted to sit across from you because how much I admire you and look to you for guidance, for my parents are of a unkind nature and low cognition.
wow and somehow the POTUS won the Nobel Peace Prize
+PeKingBJ Based on no previous experience. That's the bizarre thing.
+Pat Hacker I guess they were hoping they could inspire him to be peaceful, but it doesn't seem to have worked.
Not seem . . . It did not work.
He will not be going down as a great president, just as Hillary, should she become president, will be the witch to her husband and the Obama warlocks.
Who rules the world? Corporations and their interests. Literally, money rules the world. If any polity or group ruled the world decisive action toward a 'sustainable'/thrivable economy would actually be possible, but the scary thing is that it's out of everybody's hands, and the course toward destruction is basically guaranteed.
Fascism is basically an unholy alliance between the state and the corporate world. That defined Nazi Germany, the state was supreme and used corporations for its devices. Today we're experiencing a crypto-fascism, or fascism in reverse. The corporations reign supreme and use the state and our so-called "elected representatives" to enact their will. Which is borrowing against the long-term viability of our species for their short-term profit. Welcome to the last world order.
Chomsky realize that the asteroid was not man made.
I've been a big fan of Chomsky for some decades but ......... sadley this one is incorrect. I'm at a dilemma. Help.
Strange that the Peace Prize Laureate president is the longest war time serving president. But then his acceptance speech really prophesized what sort of President he was going to be. I'll never understand why he was even nominated for the award. I was told at the time they hoped it might guide or influence his "rule". Didn't do that did it? It actually seemed to give him a pass.
Obama is not an effective President, he is an effective communicator and campaigner.
+aj wood Nothing to do with race and everything to do with moneyed interests.
oil grubbing bastards are trying to rule the world.
Note to our leaders and followers... If the US doesn't invoke 55 MPH national speed limit very soon, then they are not serious about accepting or addressing the problem. It would be an immediate first step. And alone it would not solve the damages we will all face.
Alternative power would also gain finacial benefits as incentive. Since money is the only incentive that seems to work. Planetary suicide is acceptable as long as "I" can profit.
In short we are f***ed
he admits the issues are concentrated power, ie corporations but also state power, but yet advocates to vote for someone who will create more state power. Make up your mind. I respect chomsky for his anarcho syndiclist views but he compromises to much.
Noam Chomsky zzzzzzz....
Did he say something you could not follow? Are these existential threats boring to you?
I just find Chomsky boring. Always have.
2016 warmest year on record? Come to the Northeast. During 2016 we had the record coldest temperature in our history, and in Plymouth the high temperature during the spring didn't reach above seventy or sixty five untill June. Sounds like climate change huh chomsky?
It's a global average you dunce.
