The best apex food review I've seen. Im sailing apex on 2/19. I have reserved la petit, garden grill and fine cut..I've had oxtail once before home cooked and loved it. ill definitely look for it on the buffet next week..😉.thanks again..!
Great review and presentation. Subbed and looking forward to watching more of your content. Your wealth of experience is a valuable resource for us. Thank you
@@CruiseReport the main dining room offers a lamb shank that’s just as wonderful as the oxtail. I was dining in Blu and mentioned that the only thing I missed from the main dining room was the lamb shank and our servers told us that everything in the main dining room was available for Luminea and Blu. You must try Blu. It’s available to suite passengers at no additional charge.
@@gailcreighton5484 Very interesting. Will definitely try that on our next sailing. Our butler did mention that he could get us into Blu, but we were booked up!
This is the deeper dive / confirmation I needed to decide that I'll move up from RC , NCL and my favorite Carnival up to the X! Loved your take, and I also love Indian food, so looking forward to that next trip! Great Video!
Thanks for your video! We love Celebrity and we're on Apex twice this year and we are looking forward to the food (and wine pairing). Your video has heightened our anticipation in a good way!
We'll be heading out on our first Celebrity cruise January 2023 on the Apex. I've been wondering how true the hype over Celebrity food is, and let's just say watching this video has us very eager to start that cruise! Thanks so much for posting it.
So happy to find this video ahead of our cruise on the Apex at the end of November. I appreciate the extensive in-depth food review and all the hard work you obviously put into all your videos! I also love your subtle humor too…Texans eating the bread as fast as they could bring it (in Le Grand Bistro) made me laugh out loud! 😂 I subscribed and look forward to more of your videos! 😊
Thank you for making such an effort on this review and for going into so much detail. It's such an invaluable resource. Going for our first cruise in May on Celebrity Edge, Sky Suite. So looking forward to the cruise EVEN MORE after watching your review. Being foodies I didn't even know Celebrity was renowned for its dining. Cannot wait :) I've also subscribed to your channel. I want to hear more. Great job.
Thank you for your excellent review. I’m very excited to be taking my first cruise ever in the near future and on Celebrity Apex. I’ll have access to The Retreat, so I’m looking forward to that elevated experience and dining at Luminae. As you and your wife are seasoned travelers on cruise ships, I’m looking forward to viewing your other videos and learning more about the ins and outs of cruising. Happy trails.
Hello, Loved watching your piece, our daughter is going on the ship in a weeks time and send us your link. For our 50th wedding anniversary gift our son and daughter gave us a gift of a cruise on Celebrity, we normally cruise with P & O. We were amazed by your choice of favourite dish being the braised oxtail, we too had it on our Celebrity cruise and had second helpings , it was delicious. We recollect having it on the Cunard Queen Mary too. Loved your videos and your laid back cool Texan style, we're hooked and will try and watch them all. Margaret and Winston
What an excellent, detailed review. I will be on Apex in March - my first cruise with Celebrity. Thank you for your honesty and again, the attention to detail. This just got me even more excited for our trip!
I'd like to thank you. You really speak to me, when it comes to dining. Things I look for, you've described. Your appreciation for the service was noted. The way you gave 3 scores to each venue was valuable. We're in a Sky Suite on the Apex in May for a 12 day British Aisles cruise. Many food items were on my list, but now I won't miss the braised ox tail. Or the lobster bisque. Subscribed, and will look forward to future videos.
Thank you for your videos!! I have been thinking about booking on the Apex or Ascent for my birthday, your videos have helped seal the deal. Going to book today.
Excellent review, very thorough and thoughtful. Thanks for the heads up on the braised oxtails. Hope they have it on the Christmas cruise this year (2023). Many reviewers are very non-specific in sharing their dining experience... "it was really good" or "they had a nice vegetarian selection" or "great cookies" - that doesn't help much in deciding where one might want to dine. New sub, keep up the great vids!
When I eat spicy Indian, I love mango chutney and cucumber raita on the side! My favourite Indian restaurant closed quite a while ago. I still miss it!
Omg. Mouthwatering oxtails. Yum. And you have great taste in food. Great video. Very thorough and enjoyable to watch. Subscribed. Team coke by the way.
My wife and I are sailing on the Apex Jan. 13. I went on line and the app to make pre-cruise reservations at the specialty restaurants. We had three restaurants we wanted to experience. The Fine cut steak house, The Garden Grill, and Eden. All three showed no availability for the entire week. What a disappointment. We are booked in a Concierge room, not sure that will help us once onboard 😔
My wife and I just returned from a Edge cruise class on the Edge. We also were in the suite class, in which we enjoyed the Luminaie restaurant extensively so many delicious dishes. I did have the burger for lunch one day in Luminaie, it was the best burger I ever had And I thought for sure that’s was what you were going to say was your favorite dish. We did go to the steakhouse we split a 42 ounce ribeye cooked to perfection, it was excellent along with everything else in that restaurant. We did go to Raw on five, we had the $95 tower of seafood that was more than we could eat and it was delicious. My only complaint was that we had originally booked on the aqua class because of the blue restaurant because of the spa treatment area and then when we upgraded to a suite glass we lost out on that restaurant but we got the Luminaie restaurant , but I was not able to use the therapy rooms and I paid extra for my one day pass. It was pretty cool and I don’t know how many other days I would’ve used it but I was disappointed to the fact that they would take away something that is on a class lower than the one you upgrade to it just didn’t make sense. Maybe you can explain that? Also what was the bottle service Area across from the magic carpet? Was it an additional charge if you had the premium bottle service was it a place where you could hang out because it was kinda windy and cold going through that area beautifully done, just asking. The biggest disappointment was that we never realized how awesome the area in the back of the ship when you walk through that spooky chromed figurine area we just never went to the Eden garden. We were very disappointed that we didn’t realize it was there. The entertainment was spectacular as always the butler service was outstanding and I rate the cruise at 10+. Our previous cruises were mostly on Royal Caribbean, basically because once you achieve the diamond status plus it seems like you get treated a little bit better. We definitely will be cruising on Celebrity Cruise Line again.
what a shame the 4 main free dinning rooms were not covered (only one ) . Have found there is not the need to pay for speciality dinning as main dinning room food usually very good. we do treat ourselves may be once or twice depending on length of cruise. The most important factor should be the quality of included food on your cruise . Thanks for the informative speciality dinning review. I agree the oceanview is a great buffet .maybe on your next cruise try main dinning room thanks enjoy your next one !!
I'm sailing on the Apex in April - looking forward to the Eden experience, I will definitely try the Filet Mignon w Mini Short Rib Wellington. We are booked in the AquaClass cabin, we will have access to Blu Restaurant. Thanks for the thorough review of your experience.
We are booked on Celebrity next year and I am doing research into this cruise. What a brilliant and informative video. Well presented. If you are from UK give this video a look-see.... it's very good.
Thank you for your in depth review of the food. My husband and I are considering Apex for our next cruise and as foodies, food reviews are very valuable in our decisions. Thanks again!
We are going on our first Celebrity cruise ( Edge ) next month from Rome to the Greek islands and Naples for 15 days on our honeymoon . I have been trawling through the plethora of reviews on UA-cam for Edge and Apex because they are remarkably similar ships. Some are very good, most are alright, some are downright terrible. This one though and everything I have see from CruiseReport is on a higher level altogether. It is really really precise and detailed ( I love detail ). Chris is very thorough whilst keeping in mind others have different opinions. His food reviewing is excellent. I learned to make sure to utilise the butler service from this particular video. Well done Chris. Spread the word, this is an excellent channel from very experienced cruisers.
Hello Gary . How did it go ? We're on the same cruise on the 3rd September and looking forward to the experience. Have you any tips or recommendations on your favourite restaurants or trips . I hope you enjoyed your honeymoon and experience. Regards. PS . Excuse my manners Chris ! Exellelent review , great help thank you .
We were on Celebrity Edge Caribbean cruise in December 2021 and we enjoyed the food.he small review: We also missed the paid Murano restaurant, which is available on all ships of other classes. But we liked the idea of four main restaurants. Their food was great. There was no ice cream stand next to Cafe al Bacio, so the cafe's menu lacked the ice cream coffee we were so accustomed to. Now about the food on board of Celebrity Apex during Transatlantic cruise in spring 2023. Now about the letdownof food from January 1, 2023. We compare it to Celebrity Edge food in 2021. There was no letdown during breakfast and lunch at the buffet. I was especially pleased with lunch time. There was such a variety of dishes that we didn’t try everything; every day there was a new menu. I didn’t like much the food at the buffet at dinner, the menu was very limited. True, we only went there for dinner twice. I didn't really like the food in the four main restaurants during this cruise. Maybe it's the chef's influence. For example, the chefs in the Greek and Italian restaurants were from India. We already had a negative experience with an Indian chef on Celebrity Eclipse in 2017. The number of waiters and sommeliers in the main restaurants has decreased, and the workload on workers has increased significantly. As a result, sometimes we had to wait up to two hours for food. We went to three specialty restaurants, we really liked them, but the price has increased by 20-25% since 2022, and an 18% tax is added to each order, even if you order in advance before the cruise. As always, I was pleased with Cafe al Bacio. After every breakfast at the buffet, we went there to drink cappuccino. The girls in the cafe knew us by name already on the second day and knew what we usually ordered. They didn't even ask us for our cards. All this with smiles and pleasant service.
We always enjoy the food on Celebrity as well,we usually eat most of our meals in Luminae, and we love all the food and service. We really enjoy getting to know the serving staff. We are sailing on apex in November and will remember your recommendations, thanks!
Frisee is my favourite lettuce for a salad! French food is awesome! Usually, it is served in smaller portions! Yes, we love our baguettes! I buy 2 every week (just for me)! We love cheese for dessert too!
What a fantastic review! Perfect amount of detail. We're sailing on our first Celebrity cruise in May (on the Beyond) and this has literally whetted our appetite. Thank you :)
Thank you!!! That was so informative. We are going on our first cruise ever!! We are going on the celebrity apex on March 19. I am looking forward to your next review about the sky suite.
Thank you for your review of the Apex food. First I'd like to thank you for your way of speaking. I have watched other US/english speaking reviews, and some are talking very fast, as if they're in a hurry to get finished. Now for an english speaking person that's probably not a problem. However this may not apply to all viewers, and as a viewer with a foreign language I would like to thank you for your way of speaking - you're not in a hurry which makes it much more easy for us foreigners to follow (without too many pauses ;-) ) My wife and I are very much looking forward to our first cruise ever - on the Beyond in july. That is why I'm searching for information and reviews on YT, and I happend to stumble across your channel. I am definately subscribing, and I am looking forward to watching more of your videos. Again - thank you very much for your honest review 🙂
Excellent, thorough review! I'm feeling good about my selection of Le Petit Chef for our first full day's dinner and Eden for my birthday dinner. Based on your opinions, I think those are wise choices for specialty dining for us. I'll have to bring my husband to le Gran Bistro at least once, as he's a huge fan of both Lobster Bisque and French Onion Soup. I'll let you know what I think of things when I get back in two weeks. I'll likely try Craft Social as I'm very fond of beer. :)
We took our second Celebrity Cruise in February. Yes the ship was new and very modern. There was plenty to do and not a lot of kids. Truly felt like I was having a fine dining experience every night. I was very pleasantly surprised to see the Matre d declining to set people inappropriately attired. We ordered room service twice a day . We got a 5 minute heads up call that our order was on its way. 5 minutes or so we got another call to make sure we were pleased with our order. To me this IS service . Take note Princess, where every room service Oder was a spin on the wheel weather it would be correct. This was a truly terrific cruise and plan using Celebrity again soon 🏖️
I will be sailing on The Apex in 21 days. Sailed last year on Beyond so interested in comparing the food in the buffet, main dining and specialty. At this point we have two specialty reserved. More to come.
I’m with you … La Petit Chef is my fav! And I’m not sure if you’re aware or not … $55 per person is a steal! To dine at Le Petit Chef in New York City … YES, this same concept is available on land, too … costs $270+ per person!! Crazy, right?! I’m in Texas, too!
We're sailing on the Apex April 23rd and I have to say, I have watched A LOT of reviews of the ship, but this was by far the most helpful and informative yet. We pre-booked three of the specialty dining experiences and will eat at Eden, Le Petit Chef and the Chophouse. I'm typically team Coke, but honestly am not that picky about soft drinks. Did you try any specialty drinks or cocktails which you believe are a 'must' to try while onboard? Thanks for all of the time and effort to put this together. Really well produced and terrific detail!!
I think you will love Apex and I can't wait to read your thoughts on the Chop House. We did try a couple of the specialty cocktails in the specialty restaurants and they were all very good (I cannot remember the names). Have a great cruise. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Loved this video, most thorough explanation of the speciality restaurants. I’ve always wondered if the specialty dining was worth it, as the last time I was on Celebrity the MDR meals were so spectacular I didn’t feel I needed specialty dining. As a fellow Texan, I laughed about the butter.
I just booked a trip on Celebrity Apex for December 2023 in a Celebrity Suite. Doesn’t everyone in a suite get a premium beverage package? If so, I’m wondering why they even list prices for cocktails on the menu at a suite only restaurant? Aren’t they going to be included for everyone that eats there?
Glad you were able to finally try calamari how it's intended to be. Calamari is supposed to be tender. If it's chewy it means it was overcooked. Unfortunately calamari is one of the most unforgiving foods when it comes to being overcooked as it really is inedible. Also, it's easy to overcook, especially the small ones. However, when cooked properly it's my favorite seafood dish to order.
Thank you for another excellent review! We sailed on Celebrity several times, but on the S class (Reflection etc.) The food was average at best. I'm wondering if the food really improved that much since our last Celebrity cruise in 2019, or food on the Apex is so much better than on the older ships? Or maybe it's just matter of perspective (our benchmark is Oceania/Crystal, which in my opinion are in a different league). Thanks!
I'm suprised ! We've done four Celebrity cruises as well as many more cruise lines . We return to Celebrity because we find the dining v good . I accept when we did a Silverseas cruise the food was exceptional, but we paid a heck of a lot more .
I will be on the Apex in April and enjoyed your video. Is the only option for breakfast a buffet? I enjoy good personable service and not having table service as an option is a negative. How would you compare and contrast Princess dining in the MDR?
One of the categories my husband and I review on restaurants is table and chair comfort. I saw another review where they said the chairs are not comfortable on most of the seats on Apex. Would be interested to hear your feedback on seating on this ship
Found you guys a little late, but I've been catching up. I've got 2 celebrity cruises booked for 2024, one on the eclipse, and another on the beyond. Looking forward to a superior experience over the last 2 cruises, which were on ncl and rc. No more mega boats for me. I'm too long in the tooth for all those kids, lines, and screaming, and the food and service were simply not up to expectations. As for the team coke v pepsi? I always tell people that I would rather pay full price for coke than drink pepsi for free.
Hi there. Just watched this video. I am going on the Edge I December for 10 days so I am happy to be armed with some good information. Couple of things I am wondering if you know or noticed at all. Did you see any evidence that dietary accommodations can be made(I am diabetic). Also, not on the dining subject, but I am going solo on this cruise; did you see many singles and/or what do you think the atmosphere is like for singles?
Scott, yes, they will go out of their way to accommodate any dietary requirements you have. I recommend that you find the maitre'd as soon as you board (they are usually in one of the dining rooms) and let him/her know your requests. I did not pay attention to the singles scene, but I know they did have scheduled mixers for single guests.
They sponsored you. I appreciate your candor. This is compensation. Of COURSE your negative comments will be truncated Nevertheless I enjoy your reviews. Thank you
I don't know if 'truncated' is the accurate term. We always try to be fair to our viewers and the cruise lines. Sometimes we encounter an issue or 'problem' that is an obvious one-off and does not represent a policy of the cruise line. For example, the cold French Fries in Luminae. It only happened once, so it is not a typical experience. The WiFi, on the other hand is a serious issue and I think I made my dissatisfaction pretty clear.
I just came back on April 22 from a 5-night cruise on the Edge, and I was SUPER IMPRESSED and AMAZED with the food and service provided! My friends and I ate at all four main-dining restaurants, and everything was a 5-star experience from A-Z! In fact, we had made a reservation at Prime Cut for the last night of the cruise and canceled it because we loved Tuscan, Normandie and Cosmopolitan so much that we were dying to try Cyprus...and it did NOT disappoint! As it turned out, the menu offered prime rib that night, so my friends got to eat their steak after all, and I had the sea bass, which was delicious. Honestly, I'm not sure how much better the specialty restaurants can be; I guess the main difference would be the different menus in each, but as far as the quality and taste of the food plus the stellar service, I can't imagine that those other restaurants would be any better. The food at the Ocean View buffet was also excellent, and I had the same experience on the Millennium ship last November. I actually find their pizza to be quite good, and I consider myself to be a "pizza snob". 😄 In my opinion, Celebrity certainly deserves all the awards it has won for best food in the cruising industry, and based on all my wonderful Celebrity experiences so far, I am now a true Celebrity loyalist! I highly recommend Celebrity to anyone looking to go on a cruise! 🤩🤩🤩
Overall we loved the speciality restaurants. Your experience at Raw on Five was quite different than ours. We had just cruised on Crystal and enjoyed their Japanese restaurant, Matsuhisa. The ships version on Omakase rivaled the land based version.
Elegant casual, I think that is what they called it. I wore a jacket, but a button down shirt and slacks for men is fine. Just no jeans, shorts or t-shirts.
@@CruiseReport haha. No worries. I agree with you. I am not a fan of mandatory gratuities for small groups (large tables, I get it... people forget to include the value of drinks and sides and can't do math correctly so it's not fair to the service staff). Where I am there is a "well, they live off those tips" attitude. Why is it suddenly my job to underwrite a living wage for staff? If the job doesn't pay well enough, the servers should pick a different job. If the restaurant wants good staff, they should pay them good money. The minimum wage used to be $8 ish here, then the government mandated $15, and tied that to inflation apparently.... So apparently, $25 or so an hour here now for minimum wage workers. And the restaurants have in some cases 18, 22 or 25% on their machines for the tip. And, on top of that it's usually not based on the pre-tax amount when the machine does the math. It's out of hand. (Edit: I would further add, in no way has service quality suddenly improved for the customer due to money. If anything, it's worse over the past decade by a long shot.)
Did the Belgium waffles have real maple syrup or that fake aunt jemima crap? I’d be curious to see how the steak house does steaks. I went to the steak house in RCL and it was NO Ruth Chris!
i sailed on celebrity and hated the food, ate at the ocenview once and turned me off so much only would eat dinner so i would not starve the food was so gross and disquting
I don't care at all about Coke / Pepsi / Rola Cola. They are all the same to me. I may have one every couple of years but always find them too sweet. Just water for me with food
I want to make a small correction, the correct name is Le Petit Chef and Family NOT Le Petit Chef and Friends. Not sure how I got that wrong.
well u did so
I could seriously listen to you talk cruise food all day! Thanks for a great review.

Eden cafe is great for breakfast amd lunch, if you enjoy lighter. healthy fare.. You can also sit outside. One of my favorite spots on Apex.

Try Oceania. It’s superb. I’d say better than Apex for foodies. Apex food was great though.
Gary, I am glad you appreciate my attention to detail. Some are annoyed by it. I think you will love Edge. Thanks for spreading the word!
Thanks for the fantastic food review!!! 😊
P.s. we are 100% team (diet) Coke!
Kristy, you will love it. I hope get to sail on Beyond.
Thank you!!! That was so informative. We are going on our first cruise ever!! We are going on the celebrity apex on March 19. I am looking forward to your next review about the sky suite.
Cheryl, you are going to LOVE Apex. You are starting your cruise life on one of the very best.
Thank you for the nice compliment. I am glad you enjoyed! Have a great cruise on Beyond.
Very nice ..keep'em coming..
Amy, I look forward to your review.
Look forward to reading about your experience.
Is there a laundry in the celebrity beyond? Thanks.
Actually, no.
@@CruiseReport thanks
Thanks for your video - very helpful. What cruiseline and ship would you say had the best food on all of your trips?
That is hard to say. We are getting ready to put together a year-end summary of all of our 2022 cruises and this will be a topic we will cover.
WOW, $270. No way!
Specialty restaurants should be amazing but lm more interested in a review of the MDRs.
Now I know! Thanks.
@@stevewilson6390 my benchmark is Oceania. The food there is in a different league. And it’s only slightly more expensive if at all.
@@Steadyoptions
Impressive Benchmark , Stay healthy and enjoy many more .
Regards .
I will be on the Apex in April and enjoyed your video. Is the only option for breakfast a buffet? I enjoy good personable service and not having table service as an option is a negative. How would you compare and contrast Princess dining in the MDR?
There is one main dining room open each day for breakfast and Luminae is open each morning for suite guests. There is also room service breakfast.
I get it , you love spicy food haha. Great video sir! I can’t wait to go
One of the categories my husband and I review on restaurants is table and chair comfort. I saw another review where they said the chairs are not comfortable on most of the seats on Apex. Would be interested to hear your feedback on seating on this ship
We will be on Beyond next week, so I will try to check out the chairs for comfort.
@@CruiseReport update. The chairs on Apex were ALL VERY COMFORTABLE!
Agree with you on the oxtail!
Do you remember when they offered the braised oxtail at oceanview cafe?
Pretty sure it was on day 2.
I did not pay attention to the singles scene, but I know they did have scheduled mixers for single guests.
team water
Interested in seeing how these 4 restaurants work!
@@CruiseReport Noted......It must be a great experience. I'm hard pressed to find too tough a critique of celebrity on balance
Glad you enjoyed the cruise. Overall, we were very impressed with the food and the service everywhere was excellent.
No money changed hands but we did get a free cruise. Not a slam, just an observation. I enjoyed the video.
Thank you sir! Where in texas are you from
DFW area.
Overall we loved the speciality restaurants. Your experience at Raw on Five was quite different than ours. We had just cruised on Crystal and enjoyed their Japanese restaurant, Matsuhisa. The ships version on Omakase rivaled the land based version.
Crystal is definitely in a different class.
So, am I Only Allowed to choose One Starter and One entree at a MDR at Edge Class?
I don't think there is a limit. I am pretty sure I ordered more than one on at least one occasion.
Team Pepsi after the Atlanta debacle. Coke Zero in its original form was delicious.
How was the dress code for the upscale dining?
Elegant casual, I think that is what they called it. I wore a jacket, but a button down shirt and slacks for men is fine. Just no jeans, shorts or t-shirts.
Lardons are thick fresh (not smoked) crispy bacon bits!
I am Team Coke and my wife is Team Pepsi! I eat adventurous and my wife is steak and potatoes and no food can touch its neighbor. Opposites attract!
Luminae will allow you to order off the Main Dining room menu if you don't care for their menu's offering that day.
Yes. Wish we had known that.
Maybe I missed it... I was waiting for the " air quotes " (quote) gratuity (quote) explanation... did I miss it?
I think it got lost in editing. IMO, it is not a 'gratuity' if it is mandatory, it is just a service charge.
You know, honestly, I cannot say.
I thought the dining on Edge was excellent. We did not enjoy the Prime Cut steakhouse very much. Raw on 5 was outstanding.
I like both Coke and Pepsi from a can!
I am confused by your rating system. What does 2 thumbs up mean? sometimes you say 8/10
Thanks for a great review. Team Coke.
Team Coke!! I'll be on the Apex February 24th!
You will love it!
Team Pepsi!!
I can't eat cold fries! I love my fries burning hot with room temperature ketchup and salt!
COKE !!!!!!
Upside down pineapples????
team Pepsi..lol
Eggs, if true, the ship should have had the chef go and strike a deal.
Le petite is wonderful. But, it’s not the type of restaurant you go to more than once.
A Wiseplate without platitude.
Awesome show, please make more.
It made me hungry....
Team Pepsi
i sailed on celebrity and hated the food, ate at the ocenview once and turned me off so much only would eat dinner so i would not starve the food was so gross and disquting
What is “team coke” and “team Pepsi” all about?
Some cruise lines only offer Coke products while others only offer Pepsi products. If you are "team Coke", you prefer Coca Cola products.
@@CruiseReport So if a cruise line only offers Pepsi and you are team coke you don’t cruise with that line?
@@barryhaley7430 Not necessarily, it just gives people something else to complain about.
@@CruiseReport My mother was a Coke fan. Personally I can’t tell the difference. Especially with rum😄
I don't care at all about Coke / Pepsi / Rola Cola. They are all the same to me. I may have one every couple of years but always find them too sweet. Just water for me with food
Team coke!
