tasteful demo dude, starting with that guitar!!!
Pedro Mejia thank you very much! I love the Parker Fly!
Played my Fly Rig out this weekend, one of the best investments that I have made in my 42 years of playing the guitar. Love, love this rig!!!!!!
Glad you're enjoying it!!!!
Hi Edwin, would like to hear more about your experience. I use the Line 6 Firehawk but considering buying one of these.
I have V1. I am very glad they decided to put a tuner and XLR out on this. The compressor is also very cool.
I agree. I ugh... forgot the clip with the clean electric pick-up! Maybe another vid in the future.
I miss my Parker Fly, even though it was kind of a beat up one when I got it...but it had GraphTech Hexpander installed...made it like a Mojo Midi...played consistently awesome, and once a new set of strings got stretched on it and tuned up, it always stayed in tune...always...hey, saw someone else cover this unit as well...thanks for posting this demo...
Hey Rob, thanks for watching. The Parker Fly is an amazing guitar. I was a clinician for them until they stopped producing guitars. If you haven't already, please SUBSCRIBE and hit the BELL for notifications! Thanks, ~V
Hello, please sign up.
If your rig goes tits up, it'll get you through very smoothly. If you are used to having a Line6 or Headrush and 97 amp models, it'll be a little limiting, but what it does is that it does VERY well. It's ALWAYS in my bag. I can gig with this and an FRFR. And have.
Agree 210% always in my case as well!
Thx for the high quality insights. I found the RK5v2 sounds more vintage than the FlyRig5 v2.0 in your presentations. Would you agree? The only thing I would miss in the RK5 is the LOOP...Dont know why they did not even add it in the PSA2.0, which in my view seems to be the most generic and versatile intention of Tech21, PSA2.0 has another basic sound compared to the FlyRig 5 v2, I guess...Anyways. Big Thumbs up for the final section of the Video with the individual sounds AND the mentioning of the setup of the signal chain at the beginning of the video, an info that I personally need in reviews. I appreciate to be really clear for your audience!! THX!!
Hey Byxx! Thanks for watching and for the compliments. Greatly appreciated!! I agree, I find I use the RK5v2 more than the FlyRig5v2 AND I do wish they included the loop on the RK. Oh well.... I guess we can't have it all.... lol! They both serve a purpose and have great tone. I'm not familiar with the PSA2.0 so I really can't give an opinion. Just looking at the description on the Tech 21 site... I love the fact that it has storable presets. An effects loop would be ideal on it. Again, we can't have it all!!! Thanks for stopping by. Please subscribe if you haven't already! 🤘🏻😎🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🤘🏻
Sounds great, Ritchie said he did a whole album with this using the xlr. I've been looking for something like this for a travel gig I do once a month. Tired of hauling the amps.
You can build a small pedalboard around this! By small I mean this and a Wah Wah! Done! Thanks for the kind words!
I have been looking for a really good demo of this. You knocked it outta the park, Vince!! Really well done, and well thought out demo! It sounds great. My problem now is, which do I want more lmao!! 🐰🤣👍🏼🎸🤘❤️
Thanks so much for watching and again for the kind words. All I can say is they both have their benefits. If you use something like the Eventide Rose or H9 the FlyRig 5v2 might be best. If you need something straight forward and plan to use it alone without additional effects (except for wag) then the RK5 v2 is the winner!
@@VinceGenella thanks man!! I appreciate your time!
Great demo thanks
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
wow I took the v1 back only cause I wished it had these new features. this is perfect great demo thanks
Mike Sevilla my pleasure, glad you enjoyed it! 🎸🎶🎶🎶

Thanks for watching and for the kind words. You rock!!! 😎🤘🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
great demo. it answered a few q's i had. have been playing on rk5 v1, now gonna get v2. this video could have used bass flyrig on bass track.

Nice video! I have the old version and wished it had the tuner and a noise gate. Is there a noise gate?I guessing not since it hadn’t been mentioned. The echo is my favorite with my RK5!
Hey Michael, thanks for the compliment. Sorry, no noise gate. 🤘😎🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
Superb player and sound !

Hey there. Thanks for watching, subscribing and for the kind words! Greatly appreciated!! 🤘🏻😎🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🤘🏻
That thing sound great, I was thinking about picking one those up, maybe I’ll wait for the new one to come out now
Yes, wait. There is also a new Fly Rig 5 v2 and that has an effects loop. You can add something like the Eventide H9!
the v1's will reduce in price now that v2 is out and v1 already a great bargain for used ones now, only about $175. the original v1 is a steal at a price like that. who needs an $$$ amp or $$$ dsp modeler setup with the flyrig so inexpensive...
Nice playing man!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Cool video. Does the delay stop immediately when switched off or do the repeats trail? Cheers.
Hey Danial, thanks for watching and the kind words. Unfortunately the delay and the reverb cut out as soon as you hit the pedal. 😎🤘
How do you EQ your tones. Example, assume you want to set up your basic tones: clean/crunch/lead - but you'd need more mids for the clean and lead so the EQ won't be the same for all 3, but how do you achieve this on this rig?
Hey Rich! I treat this like a one channel amp and treat the SansAmp like my amp with desired EQ. I set it to edge of breakup using my volume knob to clean it up more and for sparkly clean I use the single coil split in the Parker. I use the Boost to bring in a bit of dirt for rhythm and the OMG pedal for lead. Live I don't really use a compressor much and if I need it, I hit the button. Since the COMP/Boost share the same knobs I dial it in where both are usable without tweaking live. Just hit the button to switch between. The OMG section has a tone knob so I EQ it as needed. I've done plenty of gigs like this and I've seen Winery Dogs... Richie used two, one in front of his amp and one in the effects loop. Hope that helps. If you haven't already, PLEASE Subscribe and hit the Bell! Thanks
@@VinceGenella Thanks. How would say it compares to say a Line 6 Firehawk FX pedal in terms of 1. quality of tones 2. ease of patch leveling? I would buy it if the quality was the same as on the Line 6, but the patch leveling was much easier (which I assume it is i since there is no patch leveling in reality required for the TECH 21 as it's all one "patch"). Right?
Hey Vince, since you've demoed both, Fly Rig5 V2 and the RK5, which onw would you choose and why?
Which would be ideal for some high gain stuff? A lil bit of metalcore at times. But I play rock and blues too.
Help me pick one up please!!
Thanks for these videos. Very informative.
Hey Rohan! They are both different and awesome in their own way. I tend to like the Fly Rig5v2 because of the Effects Loop. The RK5 does have a more "Metal" or heavier tone. I'd try to get my hands on both and try them for yourself. Most on-line stores offer 45 day return policy. Get both and send one back.... or KEEP both! ;-) I hope that helped. Thanks for watching and for your kind words. If you haven't already, please Subscribe and hit the Bell. I greatly appreciate it.
Nice demo, Vince. Always wondering about plan B if my rig fails....
Thanks for watching!
How does your pick attack feel with this new version? I have the original version RK5 and the CALI Flyrig, and I find the pick attack feels very "saggy", and not very immediate, so tight metal chugging and riffing always feels a little "off". I also think the overall tone lacks nice treble clarity and top-end sizzle (a common issue with almost all Sansamp products). Has this been improved?
But in general, I do like using my Flyrigs for recording - my "Brain Tree Split" was recorded exclusively with the RK5, and my "Ghost/Echo" album with the CALI.
Hey Dave, everything you're asking is personal preference. I personally like darker tone and not a fan of "sizzle" so the RK5 is perfect for me. He specifically designed it to sound darker. I think you'll be better off with the Paul Landers Fly Rig as that's based off a Mesa. Either way I always suggest people try one for themselves.
Hi Vince, great demo. For the solo did you use a wha too?
Hey gabbs, thanks for watching and for the kind words. Yes, I used an original Morley Bad Horsie for some parts of the solo. 🤘😎🤘
thI have the original FlyRig 5 Plexi and the RK 5 Richie Kotzen original model. There is a lot of distance between the Plexi and the RK. I like the RK much better for the overall tone. But the V2 models are much closer in application. The V2's are both huge upgrades. I am leaning on the FlyRig 5 V2 instead of the RK5 because of the Fender Blonde section seems to be much better than the original. I use one of these for playing at church or any other gig. It is my go to pedal. I use it with an EV Powered monitor with a 12" and 1000 watts. I use the monitor for my playback and run a line to the FOH and do much care what they do with the signal as long as I can hear myself and my bandmates. lol This is an excellent setup that is so easy to use and quick to set up. I have had a couple of major back surgeries so I have to go with light gear, and this is not really a compromise, this is what I consider an A-Rig Solution.
Yes they have a very different tonal difference. They're reasonably priced and you can use them together with a splitter or A/B/Y box... get the best of both worlds! Get another monitor and use them in stereo with different delay times set to left and right... so many options, even with just one. Great piece of gear! Please hit Subscribe (if you haven't already) and hit the Bell this way you'll get a notification when I upload new vids! Thanks again for your time and comments.
@@VinceGenella I have two of the EV 12" 1000 watt powered monitors that plug them into. I also have a Headrush Pedalboard that I use with the EV monitors as FRFR monitors. I keep the monitors pointed back at me and send a line to the FOH and don't worry about what they do with the signal. I can hear myself quite well with this setup. The FlyRig products are brilliant and I recommend them to everyone.
@@tjnugent62 awesome!
Hey man! Dug the tune. Nice demo of the pedal too. Well done!
Thank you Bruce!
Have the rk5 v1 ❤👍
That’s a great one as well! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻

🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Good video. How is the noise if you turn up the gain? Any sort of built in gate or noise reduction? Thanks!
Thanks Scott. Like any other pedal that has drive/gain, there will be noise depending on how you set it. If you adjust all levels to match the bypassed volume of your amp or DAW (unity gain) it's really not noisy. I never stop playing when I'm on a "Lead" setting. Doings so will result in noise and feedback. When I'm done soloing I switch back to my rhythm sound. Please understand I don't know your level or experience with drive/gain pedals. I hope this helps. ~V
@@VinceGenellaThanks for the quick reply. It does help. Didn't know if Tech21 built in a noise gate or not. Just good to know if using more gain. Thanks!

Nice thing. By the way, "kotzen" means in Germay "to puke" ;-)
Noted....
Is the cab sim always on with Sansamp section in both outputs?
Only if you turn it on.
Hi Vince. Do u have a demo of this pedal thru a stratocaster with vintage style pickups?
Sorry, I do not. Best bet is to get out to your local dealer and try it for yourself.
can we insert a distortion pedal here just like valeton dapper ?
You would want the FlyRig5v2. It has an effects loop. Keep an eye out/subscribe to my channel as there will be a review/demo on it (FlyRig5v2) soon.
I'm from Brazil, can you tell me where I buy to deliver in Indian? A friend is in Indiana and he's leaving next week. hug
Sorry, I can't help you on this one... try to Google a store nearest your location.
Can I use this with modulation pedals like a wha wha? I saw Richie using like that
Yes, absolutely. I use a Morley Bad Horsie Wah starting around 0:57 for most of the lead. Thanks for watching and for the comment. If you haven't already, pleases subscribe and hit the bell! 😎🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶
@@VinceGenella Thanks!!
My pleasure… 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
Nice video!
How does it compare to the normal Flyrig 5 v2?
Does the boost feature work well enough for an overall dynamic db boost?
Hey Jeremy, it's very different. They both sound great with their own individual tone. The boost is only a front end boost. In the Fly Rig 5v2 you can have the boost set to pre (like the RK) or post giving you an overall pure volume boost. You should watch my other video on the Fly Rig 5v2. Please hit Subscribe (if you haven't already) and hit the BELL, this way you'll get a notification when I upload new vids! Thanks again for your time and comments.
Vince Genella For sure. I guess what I meant is, can you set it up so the boost will create an actual solo dB boost, or will the downstream drive/Sansamp just compress?
@@liontone no db boost on the RK... only on the FR5v2 set to post.
Vince Genella Dammit. This this was looking perfect.... lol
@@liontone lol, watch my other video. The Fly Rig 5v2 is quite killer... I have and use both together and use an Eventide H9 or the Rose with the FX loop in the FR5v2. You can make a killer rig with 3 pedals!
Hello,,,Don't you feel that the booster or drive section sounds sharp and thin, compared to pedals like the ts9 or the BB preamp, or similar pedals?
Hey Carlos, thanks for watching and for your comment. I have to disagree. Not at all. If you're listening on a phone or laptop computer speakers you're not getting the true sound. I always suggest people get out and try it for themselves with their own guitar. The Tech 21 Fly Rigs are all very flexible and you can dial in what you need. I tend to run a bit hot. If you notice the SansAmp section I have the Treble almost ALL the way up. You can simply dial that back and fatten it up, no problem. Again, thanks for watching. If you like what I do please Subscribe and hit the Bell for notifications.
I listen well but a friend who bought it, told me it sounded like that. My question is if you plug it directly into an amplifier. Maybe sounds better a pair of pedals like ts9 or BB preamp ( for me is a killer combination this two pedals)
@@CarlosCampos-ce3gp Never trust friends ;-) ------ (wink, wink......) but seriously, I'd try to get hold of one. Ritchie uses it directly into an amp and so have I. I've also tried my BB in front of it and decided I really didn't need it.
Hey, thanks for your quick response. I want to buy the same one you have, but first I will try it on my friend ... You are right about "don't trust your friends", haha
@@CarlosCampos-ce3gp Excellent....... let me know how you feel about it once you try it. I think you'll be happy with it.
Cool!
Thank!!!
Are the buttons momentary switches or in and out? Does the unit remember the buttons last setting so when you kick in the boost and switch to comp and then kick out the boost/comp and turn it on again, will it go back to comp or do you have to push the button each time to get to the other setting? This is a big question, for I would like to use two of them like RK himself.
The main effect on/off (reverb, delay etc...) are not the "click" type, very smooth. The black mini buttons (boost/comp, roto/delay etc..) are a latching button. Press and it stays down. Press again to release. So if you select comp it stays in comp until you press the button again. Using two and having each set the opposite way would be ideal. I hope this helps!
@@VinceGenella Vince, yes it does help.. Perfect. Thanks for the detailed explanation.
@@VinceGenella I have both the Plexi and the RK 5 version 1 right now. I like the idea of using two of them. It makes a lot of sense and is still really small.
TJ Nugent Great! I try my best... if you haven't already please subscribe.... more cool vids on the way. 😎🎸🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
TJ Nugent I'm interested in the Fly Rig 5v2 as it has similar features and an effects loop! Might be a demo of that here... 🤘😎🤘
The only thing I hate about this pedal is the small toggle switch of sans amp so ill stick with the version 1.
Thanks for watching. The v1 is a great product so you can't go wrong! Please SUBSCRIBE and hit the BELL (if you haven't already) for upcoming vids. Thanks, ~V
How does this sound plugged into a tube amp? Would I run it through the effects loop?
I've used it into a Supro 1610RT Comet as and a 1600 Supreme... both times right into the guitar input. I've also used it into the effects loop of a Randall Thrasher and it sounded great in all instances.

@@VinceGenella Done.
@@deadlift65 Very cool!
And how much is that? Can I connect additional pedals to it?
You can add pedals in before and after it. Like any other pedal certain things sound different/better before or after the SansAmp. I don't discuss prices as you can Google it and find it in 20 different places for 20 different prices.
You can certainly run it with other pedals but good luck fitting it cleanly on your board with those other pedals.
@@CaptainFantastik1 Hmmmmm, no issues here. I'll have to do a video with the small board I put together. Remember, this is supposed to be a solution for travel issues. Quick, compact and nothing else needed.
i didn't know Cypher from The Matrix was such a good guitarist!
Ha, lol!
So how many paychecks is that toy gonna take a guy back?? lol
At New Jersey minimum wage you should be able to work one week and have a few buck left for coffee! LMAO... I have now idea!! It's not released yet!
the other new flyrigs start at $320 so..probably there..maybe $290 for open box.
I see them brand new for $329 in the box
Why does everything sound so old still? These tones have been played to death by every player on Earth. So boring to hear the same old fuzzy, muddy 70 tones all the time. Awesome demo though. Helped me decide to stay as far away from this thing as possible & I appreciate that.
anthony defabees Well you can dial it in anyway you like it but whats most important is the guitar.I have the first V1 and with a flying v,Les paul,Tele or a strat it will sound completely different to what you hear in this demo which basically just shows one sound with some effects on so the sound always starts with the guitar.
@@rorycunningham5457
I bought a red truck & a black truck. They're absolutely the WORST distortion tones I've ever heard in my life. Returned them both and got a Mooer Preamp Live. It kicks the SHIT out of these things.

I just talked to Sweetwater. The new Fly Rig V2 won't be available until June so I will be purchasing the RK5 V2. Maybe get the Fly Rig V2 in June and use two sans amps just like Richie!
Sounds like a GREAT plan! 👍😎👍
@@VinceGenella The Paul Landers model sounds really good too! Now Im having trouble deciding what to get.
@@fruitleatherjacket2924 Yes it does. When I was at Tech 21 I tried that one as well. I was told it's based on a mesa rectifier. I love and use that model in my AxeFx, however for what I do I felt at home with the RK's SansAmp.
@@VinceGenella The V2 can actually switch between Plexi and Mesa overdrives!!!!!
I have V1 and love it. If I have one complaint it's that the elongated design and input/output placements makes it difficult to fit the thing on a pedal board and fit into a clean chain with your other pedals......although that's probably not what it's designed for. I run a Polytune in front of everything so I don't need a tuner. I do like the added features though for sure. I wish mine had the reverb independent of the Sansamp and always thought that was kind of a stupid oversight on their part.
Thanks for watching. The elongated design doesn't bother me, it's actually favorable. I set my few other pedals like wah, another delay and a BB preamp (on the board) behind the RK. Remember this was designed for travel and having the most popular or necessary effects in one pedal. I don't work for Tech 21 so this is 100% me speaking from experience. All I need to get through any gig is a good solid tone for clean & dirty (SansAmp/OMG), delay, reverb, a tuner and an independent DI. The boost/comp and the roto features are a bonus. The only other thing I prefer/need is a wah. As for the independent reverb on/off in the original... I'll bet that was due to the technology they had at the time.
Sounds great-lots of cool options......and it's small and light for the travel situation!
I like the fact that you can go direct into the PA. Great demo Vince!!
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching!
