What I've been told about the lyrics is a guy and a girl meet online using avatars. The guy loves her avatar but she wants a real life relationship. She feels like she is competing with her avatar for his love/attention.
It's about someone with a fascination for an "online virtual " girl.

The song is about men who choose to date virtual girls inside video games, rather than dealing with annoying and smelly real life women. It’s a thing in Japan. One reason for the shrinking population.
WAKANAI/WAKKANAI is a contraction of WKARANAI, which means, “I don’t understand.”
I think you guys got it about right with the lyrics. "Virtual doll" makes me think of any or all of the following obsessions: vtubers, anime or game characters, or just plain ol' fantasies. The woman in the lyrics wants reality not fantasy.

Actually she took them off before going down to the rail. You can see them on stage, and she never went _in_ to the crowd, she was held up against the rail in front of the "Princess Section" by one of the crew.

There are many unique aspects to Real Existence that sets it apart from many rock songs: the starts and stops; Miku's little breakout vocal line; MISA's unique high-neck "fugue" during (in this performance) a homage dance with Saiki, both in black dress and shoeless; Akane's double tempo gallop; and Kanami's solo. I mean, who would ever put that kind of solo in a rock song? But it works... just like all of the plot-twists, complex density, and genre-merging they employ on most of their material.
Every section offers something different than the previous one. That's one reason many people -- unless you're a musician - may find it difficult to get into their music at first listen. As tightly integrated as it is, there's so much going on. And then you add the Japanese language and maid outfits... But for people who like and appreciate their writing, musicianship, performance and personalities, Band-Maid's beautiful cacophony of excellence offers unlimited rewards for repeat listening... and mega stardom for the Maids, imxo. Thx, Nate & Casey!

You also have to remember Band-Maid didn't write this song. It was before they took over song writing and full composition. Its one of their best songs but not their words.
That part of the chorus at 1:55 really reminds of some 1960's hit I can't quite place - a Petula Clark number maybe?

My gateway into Japanese music was Vocaloids, mostly the metal ones like YuYoYuPpe and Utsu-P. You may have seen the anime Ghost in the Shell. The Matrix movie was actually based on it, as the Wachovsky siblings explained. It is a huge discourse in Japanese society, about what it means to be human, and if an AI is a human being. I believe this song, REAL EXISTENCE, just joins this discussion, speaking from the side of such a virtual girl who is sure that she is real, and insists that the guy on the other side of the glass should not dismiss her as non-real. For her, it's a real existence, and she says she also wants to be loved.
And of course, she feels lonely.
