6:40 is damn cool, but the drill designer who chose to make the tubas aim at the ground is stupid, you can barely hear them in ALL of the competitions at that moment
The idea of aiming at the ground was that all of the sound would come from the speakers. They didn't want any natural sound in that moment of the show.
@@philiphudspeth plus it probably added a neat challenge of playing perfectly in time whilst actively not looking at any drum majors, and not using anyone else as a time reference as youre all the way on one side of the field
@@steverman2312We had IEM’s (In Ear Monitors) which had front ensemble in our ears at all times during the show. We were told to never look at any conductors during the show and just listen to our IEM’s.

you could hear it in person fine, they had clip on mics on their bells so the sound just came through the speakers
