I remember back in 2007 when I played FFXII on PS2 how impressed I was with how much content is packed in such a simple media. Not to mention how good it looked.
Nowdays I feel there is no optimizing and developers simply half-ass things.
Ff12 sure was great. Gone are the days where a game was packed full of content and it worked properly without having in game stores that speed your way to fast travel, revive allies and edit your character.
It's just late game corporation greed, at first a company is led by experts in the field and the CEO is an expert himself but after capitalisation and getting bigger and bigger the most influencial place is the financial department and little by little this department becomes stronger till the head of finance is elected as the new CEO by the stock owners and then the company only focus on profit instead of the core of his work that's what is happenning to the gaming industry and we can see what happens when this cancer gets to its last stage with companies like Boeing for example (to cite a more mature sector)
“Good” AAA games are dead. Greed took them over. At least we have indie, but then PlayStation sales would die imo…
@@faheemabbas3965i don't know if Helldivers 2 can be considered a triple A game, but it's one of the few genuine games released lately
I remember being blown away by FFXIII graphics, despite people hating it for linearity. Since then, we gained so little and paid so much in gaming in general. All changes have been incremental, but no wow factor if you compare the protagonists of FFXIII to FFXVI, for instance, sure, prettier, more polygons, etc, but not a PS2 to PS3 change, never anything like it since then. Diminishing returns...
FFXIV is a "relic" which has a lot in common to FFXII (they were re-training the MMO approach there and pushing the limits of PS2 hardware), FFXIV could use higher-res textures and more polygons for models, textures there look good on 720p, the primary res at launch, now look stretched. But apart from that, looks good enough for me.

Capcom also snuck microtransactions in with a patch so that reviewers didn't cover them in their reviews.
Actually they did know. The details were in the review package/kit. They just didn't think it was relevant to the review... I'm not joking 😐
Kinda baffled by people's response to the mtx thing because monster hunter world launched with more stuff than this and the original dragons dogma release had day 1 purchase packs as well in addition when dark arisen launched Capcom was selling rift crystal packs which you were required to use to "purify" any of the gear dropped in the expansion so it's par for the course tho the preventing you from starting a new game locally is a new level of silly shit

@@skywoofyt5375 Nah it's definitely worse than that. Raytracing, 4K textures, high poly meshes, material properties, screen space properties, shaders and procedural textures crammed on top.
Frankly a large amount of devs these days just want to crank things to the absolute max and do essentially nothing but fiddling with sliders in Unreal Engine to "optimize." They wanna load as much into the prime real estate known as DRAM and VRAM and hope it all works out in the end.
Gone are the days of proper thread scheduling and low level optimizations. Gone are the days of 🧑🍳💋(chef's kiss) mipmaps and LOD scaling..... a painstaking and laborious process of sweat and tears and love. You're preaching to the choir, if you want to make a difference, buy the game and leave a negative review and then refund it.

It doesn't even look that good to be demanding this much resource. Also the double DRM cancers plays a huge role in that.

Why is it that games nowadays are poorly optimized
sweetbaby farr
Modern devs will throw the highest resolution / poly art assets into a game engine and just hope DLSS or Nanite or some other technology will magically make it all work. They also don't make sure their code is running as fast as it should be, prime example being GTA online loading screens that were O(n^2) speed for no reason. Game engines and modern hardware have become so good that they can run things even when they're poorly optimized, but there is a limit, and we are seeing that the DD2 devs went way beyond that limit.
@@DankMemes-xq2xm Precisely this. Hardware, specifically on consoles which has always been prioritized, has gotten good to a point where devs just expect it to take the blow dealt by their lack of care. And it doesn't work.

Aside from the rough performance in Cities the game is looking amazing so far. Slow start but once your getting into the story it has amazing moments.
Especially Night lighting looks slick. Caves look amazing, not perfect tho some things are to much copy paste in the world.
Also run it on My Cyborg 15 a12vf rtx4060 i7 12650h and 4tb m.2 16gb ram connected to a 4k TV 65inch. Running it on 1920x1080 Med High settings at 80 ish fps. \
I'm actually pretty surprised about the performance of this game on 4060, Cities are insanely taxing but they wil fix that.
I do use FSR and or Fluid frame gen in High ress. Depending on the settings. But even 4k low settings looks surprisingly good.
But performance can deff use a bumb but look at BF2042 now vs how it was.
This game is actually not "graphically" demanding, 4060 is actually good enough to run this game. Oh, the early signs of downhill trend, we even had a gate-like scandal, now the part II of it. I wonder when rock bottom comes, the gaming industry is falling for more than a decade now. Will the herd ever learn not to buy bulls**t?...
Totally missed the whole point. It's not the GPU that dragon dogma 2 monster is gunning for. It's CPUs.
Instead of RTX 4090s there should be i9 14900KS 6.2ghz and ryzen 7 7800X3D that dragon dogma 2 is munching (Since per DD2 developer claim, NPCs eat a lot of CPU resources and said that is the reason why lowering graphical quality/resolution sees no notable change in performance).
Why did they even make the everyday NPCs so complex? I haven't played DD2 so correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds like even the NPCs walking around town have some batshit crazy AI / behavior tree that is totally overkill for what they are needed for. Could have just scripted them to walk around on a set path, and keep the more advanced stuff for the enemies and followers (again, not sure if this is the problem, correct me if I'm wrong)
@@DankMemes-xq2xm I don't honestly know what the background NPCs programming is compared to main followers and if it's the same then it's batshit crazy stuff.
Like what the actual thing about that is... they actually knew about all of that. But for some reason instead of working on that first to have NPC driving system that is scaleable (dumbed down basic for background NPC and high fidelity complex one for followers / important quest NPCs and monsters when you are fighting them etc..) and doesn't eat so much performance because they knew game will have a dozen of NPCs..
Like it's just beyond me.
It's RE Engine after all. It has never been built to run an open world RPG (monster hunter is not even closecto what this is) and probably NPC driving program has just not been built with scalability in mind since in resident evils you have like what 1 follower and couple zombies at once... and boss fights are always 1v1...
In any case this should have been fixed before launch not "looking into performance for a future patch". Like whst the fuck.
