I'd also recommend albums like "Pleasure to Kill" by Kreator. It's one of the many albums that helped pioneer the sound of death metal

I started with Gojira, then cannibal corpse, morbid angel, necrophagist, etc and finally stoping with Death which I think is so ahead of everything that touched Death metal or Extreme metal for me, every album is perfect.

it's incredible to realize how far back the music goes. I only began listening to heavy metal in the early 90s when a neighbor introduced me to Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Motley Crew, Metallica, etc . In the late 90s I found Industrial metal and other heavier music. Then in the early 2000s I came across the really heavy stuff I listen to today. So I was a bit late to the party as usual which is why I enjoy learning about music I've missed for one reason or another.

Really enjoy your content man. I've been sharing your videos with the cast of a movie I'm producing since they're supposed to be metal heads 🤘

Excellent points throughout. To my ears there’s so much crossover musically between thrash and death, that the main difference is in the vocals. To me the speed and the riffing and especially the vocals of Seven Churches sound like death metal. I still have it as the first death metal album, or at least the primary proto-death metal album. More so than Venom. But I also agree that Slayer were death metal before death metal was death metal. Great video.

Hey I've been wanting to try Suffocation, Hooded Menace, Amon Armoth, and maybe some African death metal bands. However I'm trying to find a way to get used to the "Cookie monster"voice. How do you do that????

It take a while to get used to for sure. I wasn't a fan at first either. If it's something you want to try and get over I'd say focus on bands like Death that don't have the deeper gutturals. Also, listening for the sake of the other instruments can help as well. For a long time, a song like Hammer Smashed Face really helped me get into death metal for its really cool riffs. Death's Sound of Perserverance was also huge for getting me into the heavy side of death metal as well. Thanks for watching!!!!

Mmm for me more necrophobic is pure death metal...than thrash..piece by piece and altar has more the thrashy influences...but has many elements of death metal music
