How are you using LinkedIn and LinkedIn Open to Work in your job search? If you haven't watched it yet I shared a video recently about the exact steps dream job seekers should take on LinkedIn to land an offer ASAP, you can watch it here: ua-cam.com/video/tQgfnqZ7S4s/v-deo.html
After over 2 months of job search without using the banner, I am now convinced to use it and in fact make it more useful for my job search. Thanks Jennifer!
i know its lying but i find its best to search for new job as if you are still employed. if you say you got laid off people feel for you but most employers still prefer steady employed individuals. at one point when i got laid off, i applied and got responses from many recruiters and employers but the minute they found out that i was laid off, they ghosted me. most gave a deadline and the never got back to me and even ignored emails. then i changed status on resume to still being employed, the response was totally different. much more energy in interviews and offers even came. the tone of the interviews was different. the tone when you are employed goes like "here's why you should work for us". and if you are unemployed, tone is more like "so why should we hire you". now i also know there are better employers out there just as there are bad ones. but my experience has taught me its much better to pose as employed.
My phone is eating my messages... I swear I replied to you the other day! Unfortunately and a unconscious and sometimes conscious level, those who are currently employed are thought of as more desirable. Many recruiters hold tightly to the misconception that top talent never has to look and is always employed - and its simply not true. That said, I discourage misrepresentation. I've never hired someone I caught lying on their resume or an interview (and if my spidey sense tingles my investigatory skills are FBI level lol). Big companies actually hire third parties to validate your resume, education, etc. Another way to approach this is: do you want to work at a company where hiring managers and recruiters don't know how to find talent?
@@JenniferBrick i respect what you are saying 100%. i do want to say i have been trying to do this less and less. but have had to do this a few times. im not sure about the usa, but in canada nobody checks beyond phone reference. but that being said i have had people in the community who put fake companies, positions, etc to get hired. some got caught but only because they didn't know what they were doing, but almost everybody by the third company were able to have long lasting jobs.

I've always strongly advised my clients against any deception or inaccuracy - I would be remiss to not encourage the same of you my friend. Hi Jennifer, I got the advice from a job search strategist to use "open to work" even though I was a Director, so more senior in my career. The only way that it helped me is that some former colleagues saw it and reached out to help me. But I have had zero bites on all my applications after 3 weeks, so I am turning it off. :) Thank you for your insights!
I wanna know why recruiters only reach out to me about entirely unrelated jobs? And then when I tell them what I really do they argue with me about what my carreer is, and insist "you're a perfect fit" when I'm neither qualified, nor interested. They obviously didn't read my profile, or they didn't understand it? My profile is quite clear and says exactly what I do, but it doesn't matter. feels like the entire recruiting field doesn't take the time to understand anything about the roles they're recruiting for... Very disappointing when I'm desperately job hunting and they get my hopes up, wasting both of our time with pointless interviews.
I think showing it only to the recruiters is the best option...Because I feel as you said that people turn off when seeing profiles of passive employees.
Super helpful tips, Jennifer. Thanks for sharing you knowledge. However, when I go to Add Profile Section, I don't see "Intro" that and then "looking for a new job".
I have been using LinkedIn, but I haven't got a job yet. I was wondering, if you have time could you give me some advice on how to find out the problem?
Hi Jennifer, can you make a video about how to hide away from your current employer on LinkedIn. I am wanting to leave the current company I work for, but I work for them for 5 years, so it's kind of necessary to put my current experience to the experience section... I blocked the management team, but is there any other way????? Any thoughts / Anyone?
@@LSB924 not from Jennifer, since she didn't answer me. I basically have no contacts/"friends" from my current company linked to me and blocked all managers and co-workers. So hopefully nobody from the current employer would find me, not even other employees that the system brings up as second or third contacts.
This was super informative! Thanks, Jennifer! Do you or anyone know why I have OPEN TO HIRE?? I cannot figure out what to do? I must have selected something in the beginning. I cannot find anything on linkedIn or on a google search on how to get OPEN TO WORK. When I got to "Add profile section" it will not give me an option of looking for a new job. Thanks, in advance!

On open to work if you put in say IT analyst as a job title are recruiters going to see only that when they search? Or you will also show up in related searches to that?
Hi People, whenever I try to apply the open to work option, I am unable to post about it, the automatic template with the open to work thing doesn't show up. Pls help
They basically updated an old feature and added the frame option when the COVID layoffs started happening. The intentions of it are good, and it can be really helpful when it's done right.
You literally read my mind. Spidey senses. I was going to get in touch to ask you your valuable opinion on this topic! Thanks for sharing. I do love your videos. They are incredibly helpful!
It was drama to get this posted today (accidentally deleted the footage, cried, refilmed and edited last night 😂)... But hearing this makes me SO HAPPY I posted this today. We still need to sync about your search my friend.
Should managers have a say if their direct reports put the OTW badge themselves while still working for them? What do you think about such situations, e.g. you take the OTW badge and your boss upon seeing asks/requests you to drop it? Speaking about a personal profile, older than the company itself and not in any way legally bound to the company.
I have a question, in the intro section it doesn't show me the option (looking for a new job), instead it shows (show you're hiring)! why is that? Thanks in advance.
Hy ma'am. I have an issue with my LinkedIn profile. When I'm trying to update and post "open to work"on my LinkedIn profile, after finishing all the steps of creating "open to work" it's only save and update, but not sharing on my LinkedIn profile wall .. Can you please help me with this regard.or anybody else 🙏😢
How do I make sure it is turned OFF? I am currently working at my dream job, and want to make sure this feature is TURNED OFF! I have a screenshot available.
боже, это самое бесполезное видео. Почему так много лайков? Она по существу ничего не сказала же. Ставьте рамку если ищите работу, совет 10/10 конечно.

Thanks Jennifer . So many tips. I have started to used open to work and its amazing!
A good balanced point of view. It is a case by case decision taking into account the type of job, the industry and people targetted.

Yes, I am using it! Got laid off today because of a reduction in staff.

How to again enable the post option for open to work
Thank you dearly for this...
Can you do this even if you have a job?
How come I don't see this "looking for a new job" option. Is it because I am not a paying member?
On open to work if you put in say IT analyst as a job title are recruiters going to see only that when they search? Or you will also show up in related searches to that?
When you're in a sales role, could "open to work" be used in a competitive situation to discredit you/your company to prospects?
After Add to profile there is no option like start a post appears in Mobile app, it just saves it in the profile. So what to do??
Hi People, whenever I try to apply the open to work option, I am unable to post about it, the automatic template with the open to work thing doesn't show up.

why i dont have share/post to notify your network?
What a great tip! I had no idea that was a feature!

I am unable to create open to work post after updating the open-to-work details on my profile. Help?
I took the frame down, now thinking about putting it back.
There isn't a right or wrong answer! I think if you are actively using LinkedIn to network and engage it can be helpful.
But I want my boss to know that I'am open to work. =))

Do you have open to work enabled already by any chance? If you do, there will be a section below the top bar that prompts you to manage it.

I blocked my boss and manager so that they can't see for themselves but think of blocking others who work within the company.
Hi , what ever I do, any TAM person will tell your boss. :) Because TAMs have recruiter logins in linked in.
TAMs from YOUR employer are blocked from seeing you are “open to work” and looking to leave…
Thank u jenni
thanks
How do I make sure it is turned OFF? I am currently working at my dream job, and want to make sure this feature is TURNED OFF! I have a screenshot available.
Thank you mam
I get too many recruiters and companies contacting me despite never having ‘open to work’ enabled. How do we minimize this?
Now, that's a good problem to have.
Hey voycodin how'd you set up your LinkedIn?
I think "open to work" is totally counterproductive, it looks like running around the Tattoo on your forehead "help me" 😉
True😂
The other option is better.
Or going to a furniture store holding a sign saying “I want to buy a couch”
Can’t get it down
Love your video but that clicking sound effect is really abnocious.
