There're definitely influences. But they evolved it in the 80s with their own city pop sound which includes a lot of funk/disco. :) It's a bit of a pity that they don't try to approach that kind of sound anymore.
the first Dragon Ball was actually pretty outdated for the late 80's i guess budget reasons they used old microphones and sound effects from the 70's, DBZ updated a little bit instead i think they used monophonic stereo still had some 70's vibes though. im not sure if it was budget or they just did it on purpose

This and the Guyver OVA theme are the best anime theme music ever. American cartoon themes are shameful by comparison

Been a Dragonball fan for years and it always love how this is a clue about the "Zenkai" boosts that Saiyajin get when they recover from nearly dying (at least to the fandom, who named the ability after this song.)
