ADVICE: I recommend using 35w HID kits only! A 55w kit will draw more power and stress the stator. In my opinion, the 55w kit is overkill on light output any ways. I would use 4,300K 4,500K 5000K or 5,500K bulb colors only. I personally prefer the 5,000 or 5,500K bulb colors. ALWAYS check the aim of your head lights anytime your change the bulbs or install an LED or HID kit. If you get a hi/lo HID kit, pick up the 10 second delay relay so you can swap it out with the relay that comes in the hi/lo kit. Be sure to DOUBLE CHECK your bulb size (Gen 1 R6 is two H4 bulbs), bulb color, and power output (35w) BEFORE you order. If you have any questions or need any advice, ask me in the comment section. I will be more than happy to help you out.

I have the same bike and everything (well not everything) you do, I do to keep her on the road. Way better having to maintain her than a mechanic. Great vid! Thanks!!!!
Thank you and you're welcome. Maintenance really is the key to longevity and a proper running bike.
Help,
got an 02 r6, fuel pump was bad. Replaced fuel pump bike starts and runs, hiccups around 8k. If you slightly rev it a couple times and give it more and more throttle each time bike will rev fine all the way to red line. Even letting the bike rev below 8k and then cracking the throttle above 8k it does fine. Just seems to be the first few initial throttle twists to take it easy on to get it past the hiccup point. Once you let it idle all the way down you have to slowly give it more and more throttle to get it past the hiccup again. Thanks in advanced
looking on getting my uncles '00 r6 with 60k miles. i know its been maintained so i dont feel hesitant on getting it. especially since its free lol. but maintenance forsure gives the peace of mind as well
Nice vid man!!!! Getting my wire harness for my 00 r6 fixed up and ready to start it!!! And it’s second that always goes bad on these first gen and luckily I noticed on mine that someone done had it opened up and hopefully fixed it
Cake: Thank you. Let me know when you get her fired up.
Is see this is a YZF r6, I have a 2000 Yamaha YZF 600r. I commented early in your other video about my issue using the choke to start and figuring out how to run it correctly without making the bike overheat. I’m going to try and use the steps you suggested. Great videos man I’m subscribed and locked in 💯
Carter ElCartel: I'm very concerned that your bike is over heating. That's not good and could seriously damage your ride. Do you know how to check the oil and the coolant level? Thanks for the sub, I appreciate it.
fwh79 well it’s the first and only time it’s happened and I was thinking it’s because of how I had the choke wide open, i would barely roll on the throttle and could feel it giving too much gas. It overheated and the fan kicked on fine but I cut it off and rolled him back into the driveway. Idk if that would have anything to do with it but that’s the scenario. I didn’t see any leaks or any smoking going on. I cut it on this morning and let it run in neutral to see how it was doing but it was of course cold so I didn’t get any overheating immediately but I’m wondering what to do to check that my bike is set correctly. I’m so new that I haven’t identified the fuel valve on this model yet to check
fwh79 I’m definitely looking into how to check the oil and coolant now.
@@carterelcartel2847 Does your bike have a digital temp gauge? Do you use Imperial temps or Metric? I generally use F but I can do the conversions for you in C is that's what you are using.
fwh79 it’s definitely not a digital i wish it was lol but it’s believe the metric conversions in Celsius it has that setup like the Yamaha Thundercat I guess the basic gauges for the older 1996-2002 years. 60/80/100
All good points. I’ve just fixed
My 01 R6 too
Dale Gray: What was wrong with your bike?
@@fwh79FOXR6 carbs mostly
@@dalegray5832 Those carbs need some random attention. Using a fuel stabilizer goes a long way to helping them stay healthy.
I havea 2009 yamaha 600cc r6 and I can crank it w ethanol but won't stay running
hi i have the same slip on, mine is really loud is it the same with yours? maybe i need to repack mine
nice i am bringing my 99 R6 back to life just having problems though so im just going to rewire it completely i did get some riding in before rain season in seattle so im not mad any suggestion on the rewire would help a ton i do have the service manual an i plan on going step by step but they dont explain the tricks thanks
Plenty Spacious: What problems are you having exactly?
@@fwh79FOXR6 well I had to bypass the side stand switch and clutch to get it to ride after I got a new air filter box rode it a couple times from my apartment to my girls place cause she has a garage about 2 miles then the starter stopped I checked the switch spring was bad got a new one but still the starter doesn't do anything tested it the way the manual says to it worked and turned over so then I got a new starter relay new tail light hand grips clutch and break levers and rezivour mirrors and some led turn signals and liscence plate light still everything was working and but I had not bypass the side stand my buddy came over and somehow got the starter to jolt and then we stopped for the night woke up in the morning and nothing when I turned the key no lights nothing the guy I purchased it from was definitely hacking the wires up I just think it will be best to replace it all with new
@@plentyspacious2127 I hear ya... sounds like the previous owner did a number on that bike!
Hey I need guidance on mine need help !! When it starts it’s fine and runs fine till it gets up to operation temperature it falls on its face and dies and doesn’t want to start back up till you let it sit for a minute or two and when it falls on it’s face pretty much it doesn’t want to go past a certain rpm and dies soon after. What do I do ?
It’s a 2000 Yamaha r6
Lola Johnson: Sounds like you have bad ignition coils. Could also be bad needle jets in the carbs. I would start with new coils. Put some new spark plugs in with the coils if the spark plugs are more than 2 years old.
great video, about to buy an 02 R6 with low miles, but it has been sitting for years. Bike really looks good though. Needs new tires and likely a carb cleaning or rebuild. I will change the plugs too and possibly the coils. Not sure if I should change the fuel filter and pump.
Rob Dixon: I would change the filter. I have a playlist that you may find useful: ua-cam.com/play/PLFSGDRZeVNZTuxsT4IQqGWyPwK51CQTAR.html
@@fwh79FOXR6 So far between you and willow, both your videos are spot on for this bike. Excited to get started when the weather is warmer. I am in NY
@@robdixon6862 See if you can hunt down a jet kit for your R6. Best money you will ever spend on that bike. Let me know how it goes for you when you get her finished up. If you need any help, or have any questions, don't be afraid to ask.
@@fwh79FOXR6 I was concerned about adding a Jet kit because I'd need to change the muffler (I thought). I was just looking to bring it back to life. I know it buys me more HP, but what else?
@@robdixon6862 Would work best with a high flow muffler but I wouldn't say you "need" a muffler to run the jet kit. The jet kit is, hands down, the best mod you can make to your bike. Even if you are not concerned about squeezing more power from the engine, the jet kit is still an important mod. Makes the engine start and run substantially better than stock. Driveability and throttle response make the bike so much easier to ride. It would be the first mod I would make to any carbureted sport bike. If you can afford it, I would highly recommend that you get one. It is worth every penny.
I have a 99 r6. It is only firing on cylinders 2 and 3 , and it’s not coils or plugs , any ideas what it could be ?
Kyle Casivant: Sounds like you have an ignition problem. It "could" be a number of things. Have you removed the spark plugs and looked at them yet?
Plugs are new coils are good , I can take the plug and coil out of cylinders 1&4 and plug them into either 2&3 and they will make spark
i live in canada.. just got a 2002 R6. which lights should I get? want something brighter for the front and rear... not too technical
Your 2002 should have LED brake lights, so you should be good there. I would get some LED headlight bulbs because they are much better than halogen with light output and they consume less power. Plus they are much easier to install than an HID kit. This is a link to the H4 bulb your bike needs H4 LED hi/lo kit (easiest light upgrade): amzn.to/2y2BBSl
@@fwh79FOXR6 i started having charging issues... i ordered a brand new stator and reg/rectifier - do you hav any videos on how to replace this?
@@davidlmf No, I've never had an issue with the stator or the rectifier. So I don't have any videos about them at this time. Make sure you fully charger your battery and get it load tested before starting up your bike with the new parts installed.
Hello man i need your help my bike is Yamaha r6 2007 38.000 kms and if is hot only stuttering at 2-3 thousands RPM after is ok what is that if you know tell me plz ..when is cold work fine ..thank you...
Sounds like you might have an ignition coil problem. However, with that mileage, your bike might need a valve adjustment.
@@fwh79FOXR6 ok i will check it thanks.
@@tellerx5487 You're welcome.
@@fwh79FOXR6 😃 i hope is simple problem and i dont need to change the motor ..
@@tellerx5487 It is probably something simple. Maybe one or more of the coils is going "open" when they heat up. Just an internal wiring problem.
He man just got a 05 r6! Just had a question when it’s at idle it kinda bogs in and out but once I got going I really wasn’t having the problem except when sitting at a light in 1st. Also when I was ripping it a little my dash started going wild off and on then eventually died. I got it for a good price and the bike overall looks pretty good. Any advice on what might be causing this problem?
Nathan Gibson: I would check the battery and the charging system. Sounds like a possible bad stator. The stator is basically an alternator, it charges the battery. Other possible problems would be a clogged fuel filter and bad ignition coils. I would start by load testing the battery and checking the charging system with the bike running. Be sure to pick up a battery maintainer and use it. Congrats on the new R6 brother. Let me know if you have anymore questions or need more help.
fwh79 appreciate the quick response dude! Ima get on that rn and I’ll get back to you with how it goes. Thanks for the help!
@@nathangibson4568 You're welcome. Any time my man!
2000 r6 my bike runs great until it gets hot 90c fan does kicks in, but bike it cuts out and i have to open the throttle half way and it only just idles then revs high all of a sudden, then works normal again, but runs ok when cold. any ideas
NHEFF09: The fan won't come on til about 100c or 212-220f. Does your bike have any mods?
@@fwh79FOXR6 yes sorry about 110 cel roughly the fan kicks in....it has a ART pro series 2 exaust. video on my channel.
@@fwh79FOXR6 thanks for the quick reply
@@NHEFF09 Your R6 is running lean. You can test that with the choke. Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/VzpqJMNdqpY/v-deo.html You can make pilot jet adjustments, which should fix the problem. Or you can pull the carbs off the bike and install a jet kit as well as adjust the pilot jets. You really need to take the carbs off the bike to remove the access caps for the pilot jets so you can make adjustments. I highly recommend picking up a jet kit if your budget allows. The jet kit completely transforms these bikes. Be sure to pick up new float needles as well. They are cheap and easy to replace.
@@NHEFF09 You're welcome.
Hello man i have a question for you i have a 2001 Yamaha R6, ive been having some issues now, new to the bike game.
It struggles to turn on when cold, & now it takes like 9 tries till it stays on but when i put it in gear and take off it dies immediately. What could it be?
Onesick 5oh: Do you know how to use the choke? You might not be starting her up correctly.
fwh79 no sir, i went to turn it on right now after it had got somewhat cold to like 134 degrees and it started right up and i reved it and it didn’t die
fwh79 could it be that the sun heated it up?
@@onesick5oh993 Yes, the sun probably helped warm the cylinder head enough to help combustion initiate without the choke on. Check out this video. ua-cam.com/video/VzpqJMNdqpY/v-deo.html
To cold-start, engines require an extremely rich mixture of about 4:1. In a cold engine, only the most volatile parts of the fuel will form vapor, and to make this vapor rich enough to ignite, huge amounts of fuel must be dumped in. The large part of the fuel that doesn't vaporize just dribbles through the cold engine, unburned or partially burned (black smoke). A choke supplies this special rich mixture. As the engine warms up, its rising temperature begins to evaporate more of the fuel supplied, making the vapor fraction richer. The rider then gradually leans the mixture as the engine warms, by moving the choke lever toward OFF. You will not find a choke on fuel injected bikes because the cold start fuel enrichment (choke) is automatically handled by the computer.
You need to keep in mind that every engine (or driveline and even suspension components) has an "operating temperature". You need to perform a proper cold start so the engine will provide good power and to avoid premature engine and oil wear. Start the bike with the choke full "on". Allow the engine to run for 3 to 5 minutes. If you have a temperature gauge you can use that to decide when to start backing off the choke. Or you can do it by ear. Listen to the engine and start to back off the choke when the high idle sound starts to change. Some bikes will idle lower as they warm up because they have a proper carb setting. However, most bikes will idle higher as they warm up because the carbs are tuned too lean from the factory for emissions purposes. As the high idle sound changes you can slowly bump the choke to the "off" position. You know you are doing it correctly when the bike can idle with the choke off and not die. I like to get my bike to 130 F or 54 C before I start riding it. Always be easy on the bike until you have rode for around 5 minutes to allow the engine and tires to fully warm up.
fwh79 oh okay thank you, i will keep you updated im new to the bike scene
The stators overheat due to under sized wiring too it. There was actually a recall.
Tell Rowland: I never knew about that. Good info!
@@fwh79FOXR6 I replaced mine 3 times before soldering 10ga wires in place of all the original stator wiring... 14k miles down with no issues and the lights don't flicker as much at idle. Deffinately worth the time
