I've a day booked on your beat for trout next month Davie, always loved the look of it walking past, finally contacted the owner, good guy. Can't wait.
Great morning ere In Northern Ireland to, took a walk on my local river last week, decent hatch of LDO around midday unfortunately no trout rising to them! Could sit watching the river run for hours! Great place to be! Tight lines 2024
Thanks Davie, lovely stroll along the Doon. The river looks in fine fettle. Here in North Wales the Salmon and Trout season started today, I've spent most of it fishing for Salmon on the Dee, no sign of any but a beautiful day to be on the river. Hope you have a great season. Tight lines. 👍
Here in PA in USA, our season does not start until early Apr. I can't believe how much farther ahead you are in terms of spring growth than we are. Enjoy and good luck!
Getting close now. I've checked, re-checked, repaired and replaced almost all of my tackle over the close season. Got a few new rods and reels and I cannae wait to test them.
Hi @NLFlyFisher, The Doonholm estate that land the wall is built on does go back a long way, it is owned by the Kennedy's at the moment though only from the late 1800's.. The lands of Doonholm, in the barony of Alloway, south of Ayr, belonged to the town of Ayr until 1700s so they could go as far back as this though I'm only going on what I know by searching the internet.. All the very best Davie
Hi Robert, The trees that are resting on the old wall I expect to be removed though the others will probably be pulled closer to the bank and tidied up though it's up to the owners as it will cost a lot do to the work...I'm sure a chainsaw or two will come in handy for this job... All the very best Davie
The difference between golf and fly fishing. Golf is a good walk spoiled. Thanks for taking us along.

Schöner Spatziergang sehr Interesant Petri Heil in die neue Saison und viel Gesundheit lg aus Österreich
Hi Davie. Those trees make good trout hotels. Maybe they will help the fishing. But they sure get in the way. Have a great season.
So nice to see a river in your country. Not unlike ours in states.
Thank you.

I was walking along the Test this morning, we had the same weather but very little fly life but a grand morning all the same
Beware the Ides of March. Lol.
Do you have any idea how old the rock walls are on the river?

@@DavieMcPhail Very interesting! Thanks Davie
Will the trees be left as are or helped on their way with the use of chainsaws?
