I never would've guessed that Skullgirls debuted in 2012. What's even crazier is that it's been in longer development. I heard it was announced in 2008. It's 2022 and Skullgirls is still going strong.
Awesome!
Not quite, the game was finished (or abandoned depending how you see it) after 2nd encore with fix/balance patches every now and then cause lab zero was making indivisible. Wasnt until 2020 with the whole mike z fiasco that they returned to skullgirls releasing the annie dlc and lining it up with the mobile version (that was its own thing cause its another company). Indivisible sadly was left without devs so a lot of promised things never came out.
@@gardox3215 the return to developing the game started with Annie, not with Umbrella
@@phonesjuda7318 yeah
As of June 2023, Skullgirls very unfortunately is not going very strong, in fact the series's future looks grimmer than ever...
I will miss this game dearly... :[
This was also the year that Epic Mickey 2 and Castle of Illusion came out. It’s a huge shame they didn’t continue that series. Not to mention games like Nintendo Land, ZombiU, and Gravity Rush.
Oh and this was also the year where Pokémon Black and White 2 came out.
epic mickey wouldve been HUGE if they had the balls to go through with their original vision of being bleak and oppressive
Yeah, it really sucks that the series just...ended. Though I guess the fact that the ports of the second game all sucked reportedly(Never experienced it myself, played the original Wii-version) probably didn't help.
@@lpfan4491
Imo the ports of the second game didn’t suck and they sold an ok amount but Disney has very high expectations so that is one of the reasons why it was cancelled sadly.
Gravity rush is so slept on
Some of these games I completely forgot came out in 2012! It feels like such a long time ago that games like Slender and FTL first came out.
Damn dude, you're making me feel old. Nice video!
Can't believe how good we had it 20 years ago

2012 was such a fun year, I remembered how my friends and I would meet at the same house to play skullgilrs and SASRT since that one friend had multiple controllers xD
2012 to put it simply was "built" different
Nice video! I like to think that one day there’ll just be a playlist on your channel named “2012” with no context. Keep up the great work!!
2012 was the first year I really got into gaming; it was the year I got a 3ds and year and also really paid attention to what was coming out
Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance Is My Favorite Game Of 2012. I Love The Unique & Obscure World Selection, The Drop Meter, The Story, And Of Course The Music.
I agree! People always hate on DDD but I love the game a lot and consider it one of the best in the series. The music and story are especially good to me.
Yeah DDD was amazing. Good gameplay, pretty environments, and a fun battle system. Great game tbh.
OMG SAME!!!! I LOVE PLAYING IT ON MY 3DS AND IT GOT ME INTO KINGDOM HEARTS!!!
Fellow big brained DDD enjoyer, flowmotion is my crack
@Patrick Fogarty Flowmotion is that good type of crack.
I love the tone and commentary in the videos. Chill but thoughtfully informative.
You know what was a crazy year in video gaming, 2015. Releases include Rocket league, the witcher 3, fallout 4, ori and the blind forest, metal gear 5, journey, undertale, bloodborne and shovel knight
No freaking way did Journey release in 2015. Like no frikkin heck.
That's so crazy I'm not even going to look that up.
2015 Journey 🙄 I tell you hwhat...
Mehhhhh. 2012 was a lot more exciting.
2012 year of the wii U
A fun throwback video. Thanks for sharing.
Kid Icarus uprising was one of my favorites from 2012, definitely the game I played the most that year
Modnation racers was a classic
Arcades in 2012 for gamers: The arcade games are died!
Arcades in 2012 for casual people: Wreck-It Ralph!
Many forget that because of such a Disney movie, more people turned to have a little more interest in the classic arcade games, Q*bert had games again until 2019 (alongside Pixels movie), It was also one of the precedents for creating videogame movies more than decent (Like the Sonic movies, Detective Pikachu, or the Super Mario Bros. Movie).
I would even go so far as to say that if it weren't for Vanellope, we wouldn't have memorable little girls in the gaming like Hat Kid (from A Hat in Time). That's made 2012 an even crazier year for videogames.
P.S: And the Fix-It Felix Jr. game that was launched months ago to promote.
hey, this is one of my favorite channels to come back to. great stuff!
"its a good game! Well, its actually bad, but it is good!"
I feel like kingdom hearts story is not that really complicated if you play the games on release order as if the events of the story are simple. But as someone who played each installment in their respective consoles (except the mobile ones, i dont like playing games on my phone) the most complicated parts comes from poorly explained details or blink-you-will-missed-it details, like the power of waking, that thing never gets an explicit explanation to how it works or what exactly it does, the characters only state "it wakes hearts from their sleep" but suddenly it can let you time travel and bend reality.
It is weird because stuff like time travel in DDD is explained and has a set of rules, but the power waking, the power sora and riku are trying to achieve/unlock the whole game only gets non-answer.
Kingdom hearts story sometimes has weird priorities because spends time overly explaining one thing but mishandles other important concepts.
It came out in 2013 but god damn the wolf among us was one of my favorite games of the time
Feels weird that these games are 10 years old. I remember when some of these come out.

Gaming is still crazy today!
You could also say that, gaming is pretty much crazy every year. 😉

@@ThatboiDiz No, no it is not.

@@ThatboiDiz It sucks? Zero to no creativity, no passion, greed, focus on multiplayer, lots of microtransactions, lootboxes, ads in games, nft's, online drm.
None of these are cool...
Another example of immersive sim is Thief games, 1 and 2 are the best ones for example.
The problem with Candy crush is that it 100% is a ripoff of bejeweled. You match pieces in literally exactly the same way and you get certain boosted pieces that will destroy pieces in a 9 square radius or get boosted pieces that will destroy pieces from a line across from where that piece was both vertically and horizontally and then of course there's those pieces that will eliminate every other piece of that pieces color that you selected. Candy crush may be a very popular mobile game but that doesn't make it the best mobile game ever made. Popular doesn't always mean the best.
I do remember 2012 for having a lot of new mobile games. I do remember 2012 for those new horror games. Outlast I have to say looks damn good but that slender game my goodness that's a boring game.
Another thing is I didn't play that many of the new games in 2012 so to be honest I wasn't really very hyped about it. It could be an age thing. I was 24 years old in 2012 and well at the time I couldn't just be buying games all willy-nilly. I was going to college actually with my last year in college and no I didn't graduate college unfortunately. I graduated from high school five years before though, but anyways I was working a minimum wage job that gave me a 15-cent per hour raise so well I mean I had to be smart with my money. I wasn't just going to tell my mom to keep buying me things into my adulthood. She had money issues to deal with herself anyway.
But ultimately another reason I just wasn't very hyped for What video games were coming out that year was that I was waiting on the release of the Wii U which yeah I realized that console didn't sell very well and isn't really particularly that great as it's pretty much been replaced by the switch entirely, but I had fun with that console. I was the first person in my hometown of Santa Rosa to get the Wii U at Target and I realize the reason why that was the case was because I was preparing for what happened when the Wii came out 6 years before and it was really hard to get one at first because there was always a really long line in front of each store, but for the Wii U there was hardly any people going for it even at launch
I got Sonic Frontiers for Christmas!
Nice
Wow I’ve never heard of Sleeping Dogs and it looks so fun. And very similar to Yakuza in a lot of ways, which is a series I LOVE. I’ll definitely check it out!
Yeah the game plays like a much better true crime streets of LA. Give it a try, sleeping dogs is usually on sale on current console and steam.
@@gjergjaurelius9798 the definitive edition sucks tho, shit framerate with worse quality models at the price of lighting
My view on Sleeping Dogs is that it's GTA but in Hong Kong. It's more focused on arms combat, massive clothes customization and the physics engine is laughably good.
Also, the NPC really don't care if you ran over 20 people with your Lamborghini, even the police wouldn't chase you for too long cuz it's so easy to outpace them.
Have fun playing Sleeping Dogs.
This video made me remind how hellish 2011~2013 was for gaming ;-;
Sure, there was some good stuff, but it was either an one off thing (like Sleeping Dogs) or even if it was good, it had something horribly wrong(FFXIIILR, or DmC DMC.)
And as someone who loved games like Sonic, Megaman and Klonoa, those years were the darkest ones... I'm glad that after 2014 things got much better all around :)

I occasionally still play Sonic 4 Episode 2. However, you forgot about Blue Sphere Plus which came out in 2012. It is a ROM hack for the original Blue Sphere. Even though I've been playing Blue Sphere since 2019; I still think it's a good idea to mention the ROM.
It does not count because it is a rom hack
@@asocos At least MAX Speed has been around for 10 years now. I just wanted to comment something about Blue Sphere.
That's what everyone says about a specific year.
I don't say that about this year or year before. Or anything after 2014.
Ah the year where I got into persona 4 thanks golden and arena.
Debut in 2012?! No wonder some of the characters looked familiar despite me never playing the game until this year
You know.. Dream drop distance wasn't the only Disney game of the same year, there were also both Epic Mickey sequels, the one on 3DS Power of illusion, and the one that everyone think that ruined the franchise but i did like, Power of two. (Also, it one of the last game of the wii, if we discount the other just dance port)
Did you forget about Far Cry 3 and COD BO2? Those were the largest titles of the year easily.
There's also far cry 3, cs go, mass effect 3, max payne 3, journey, darksiders 2, ac3, hitman absolution.
2012: Where I Was Born, And Video Games Are Crazy Now

Also you got microtransactions, online drm, lootboxes and nft's. Yeah crazy, crazy my ass...

Now I feel so old.
I remember thinking Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance was actually KH3 because of the title. Silly me thinking of that instead of the title for the 3DS. I truly thought they went all out in this game. From the story to the gameplay, it was certainly a wild ride.
I remember hearing that it actually was at some point considered as a potential endpoint and that was written out because it was seen as weird to end the saga on the 3DS instead of in KH3.
FTL is/was the only RTS game I've ever played and liked its so fun and one of the few pc game that I could run on my super sh*tty pc at the time.
If he covers 2017 that would be pretty cool
And Dance Central 3 was released in 2012
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_Central here some info on it.

"I can't wait to see where this game goes next!"
That has to be some of the worst timed poorly aged quotes I've seen in a long time, RIP Skullgirls, it's reputation now dragged through the mud with it's new developers doubling down on gutting the series's idenity and actively antagonizing the old devs and their players/fans...
I wasn't much of a fan of Paper Mario Sticker Star because of the puzzle that was in the boss fights and it doesn't tell you what piece to use against the boss. I was however a fan of the Gooper Blooper boss music. You can't tell me that slaps. (Hehe)
Same, Gooper Blooper best boss, I did enjoy sticker star alot even if it was my first paper mario game.
2012 was the last good year before makind started its downfall to the PC era
I liked Dream Drop, personally, but perhaps just because it was my Only Kingdom Hearts?
With DDD, I think the point of the game is to share the controller with another person everytime you dropped. It's to show the experience of the next person and I think that's the correct way to play DDD.
No? Because you wouldn't get the whole plot if you only see Sora's or Riku's side. The correct way to play it is to manage your resources and advance at your own pace until the ending. You can play like that if course. Doesn't mean is intended or correct. Doesn't have to be either to be valid tho.
That's certainly an interessting way to think about the game.
Bad piggies was goated
seems interesting. sleeping dogs gives me a resemblence to the yakuza franchise
The sonic franchise had it much worse in 2012 than Mario did.
I think Sonic 4 is an alright 7/10. Super Sonic is really fun to me imo.
Gaming peaked 2017
Nahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. That's the year when microtransactions and online drm become more and more relevant. That year sucked.
