I had Warduke and Strongheart as a kid, so this line got me right out of the gates! Both of them are contenders for Figure of the Year!
Had these guys as a kid.... and just... wow they nailed this line. NAILED IT!!
Really like the look of these guys. Something that I love is that, currently, there's different flavours of D&D action figures. You have these for the classic fantasy look, the cartoon line for that aesthetic, and the movie figures for the more realistic take. Even if you don't care about the characters and worlds (I'm big into RPGs and absolutely do not care about D&D's lore), it's just nice to have different options for fantasy action figures that are widely available.
I hope we see more of Elkhorn, soon! I liked how he looked at SDCC! I would also love to see who they've got to pair with him!

The hammer is from the episode of the cartoon that Strongheart appears in. This is hands down my favorite toy line right now.
It's so funny that you mentioned your old Zarak hanging out in the Castle Grayskull, because that's exactly where mine spent most of its life, alongside the random Blackstar figures and demons I never remember acquiring.
Yup, I think we all had one of those little Blackstar demons that just kind of popped up in the toybox, and most of us had no clue what it was, haha.
Honestly the intro to this video is one of the funniest things I've seen you do, and here I am...watching it AGAIN two months later. I would totally watch a web series with Grimsword trying to make the snake thing happen.

I absolutely love this line! They always look fantastic. But in a sea of figures holding blades in trigger finger hands, the thing that gets me most is the dedicated hands to grip each accessory!
OMG ROBO! I replaced that same Mythic Legions knight with Strongheart as my one "classic knight" type character in my display. He really impressed me as well. Very grounded look with some fantasy flair. I can't wait for Elkhorn now!
Grimsword sounded like he could be on Righteous Gemstones. Great review - I had no plans on these and here I am with them all. They’re great.

It's odd I wasn't expecting to like these guys Neca sometimes doesn't do well with big armored figures in terms of articulation....they look great but don't tend to move well. This guy....Strongheart....moves as good as he looks......and now I'm collecting another line and I don't usually go for 7" stuff....but damn...as Robo said....nostalgia is one powerful drug.....great overview

These guys look great! Zarak tempted me especially to put alongside Grimsword. I picture Zarak scuttling alongside him as the active loud talker of the two, almost like his hype man, and Grimsword is the polar opposite, taking his time and just dead silent menace through and through.
They look incredible in terms of sculpt and paint combined with their awesome visual aesthetic, but I think my days of trying out new lines based on unfamiliar properties are over. I really like NECA's other lines heck they're what got me into collecting, and I like the aesthetic of 80's fantasy stuff, but after having the first two for a while I gave them away. Can't quite say what it was that didn't work for me, I think I just couldn't find any attachment to them.
I unintentionally paused the video at the @10:51 mark and am now forever mentally scarred.

The hammer is a call back to the cartoon. When Strongheart appeared he weilded a hammer for some reason

The reason the hammer seems out of place is that Strongheart only had it in the 80's cartoon. For whatever reason the cartoon was reluctant to show many heroes with swords.
I definitely will be picking up that Zarak haha he looks cool!
Great review Robo! Yeah these Neca D&D figures are dope! They remind me of the MOTUC & Ultimates line being that these are the versions we thought we were playing with back in the day, lol. I had quite a few of them and hope they go deep with the line. Would love to see Northstar & the yellow titan guy.

Warduke was the one for me, as soon as I saw the picture, the memories of that toy just smacked me in the face, I never watched the show or had any of the other figures (in fact I think it might have been my brother's toy that I just played with more), so I haven't got any of the other figures this time either (but I did get a "spare" still in the box). At least you didn't have to go a year and a half with the preorder in watching it say it would release this month for 6 months in a row
These are the World of Warcraft figures that we hoped McFarlane would be making and then found out they're doing statues with changeable accessories instead.
Why can't we have this kind of shiny, why couldn't Neca have gotten the license, that knight is straight out of Stormwind!

These figures are great. I played with strongheart and warduke a lot back in the day. Grimsword and Zarak I think my mom bought on clearance so my originals are still mint as I was full into gi Joe by then.
They need to make more male knights like strongheart
I saw another review show that all the accessories for strongheart besides his hands can all hang on the character. If you pull the sheath out slightly, you can hang the hammer off his belt
I've still got the old Zarack he was always a henchman for Skeletor or some kind of creation from Dr. Mindbender.

Not D&D related, but same sentiment about starting a new line. Back in 2020 I liked the classified series when it came out, but I didnt intend to purchase any of the figures....but due to nostalgia for GI Joe I gave in.
So no worries robo, I feel ya. So does my wallet too whenever I add a new figure 🙈
Wish Neca could get the LotR license and do them in this visual style. Some dwarves and hobbits built like that Zarak would be so badass

There’s some great paper covered wired florist wire out there that looks like tough rope. Works well for all …bondage needs? You know what I mean.
Still waiting for Zarak on order here in the UK and get strongheart. Hope Neca will reveal more along with elkhorn at SDCC, i ve heard thst they may reveal more at new york comic con, whenever that is exactly
Even though Hasbro finally did the figures from the cartoon I would love to see NECA take a shot at them.
I had Elkhorn and Hook Horror back in the 80's, I wonder if they will update those two.

I only had Destrier. And not a single figure to ride him. MOTU wouldn’t fit, so he just stood off to the side of my Joes & Transformers.
I was aware there was another Strongheart WITH Destrier set, but…I never saw any other figures at our Walmart? I can only guess mom bought it at TRU/CP in St. Louis on a shopping trip?
If not for keeping the back of the box with the other figures to gaze at, I wouldn’t even know WarDuke.
I did have a couple other figures from Dragonriders of the Styx. Red Devil guy and Ragnar the barbarian. I got more use out of his sword than the rest combined.

I feel like Strongheart got his name because they didn't want to pay the fee to license the name Sturm Brightblade at the last minute.
No, these came out before Dragonlance was a thing. Their D&D Stats as NPCs/PC characters are in AC1 The Shady Dragon Inn, from 1983, and some of Warduke's design dates back to 1978. Dragonlance came out in 84. I have a real soft spot for these characters and were I ever to play D&D again, I would likely use them as NPCs, as they hold high nostalgia value to me and I love bringing them to life. Esp when you can point to them and say "He looks like that."

The first too look a little too campy for my liking, but these two are must buys.
My order will come in sometime soon hopefully. There are other figures that need to get made (selfishly need Northlord and Bowmarc), but man I wish Neca had made the cartoon figures instead of Hasbro.....

I did get wave1, but i thnk im skipping wave 2. Strongheart is a little generic knight for me and i dont really feel any pull toward Zarak. As usual though, love the detail you put into your reviews. Thank you sir.

Honestly I’m surprised Neca managed to make not only figures that look amazing but also articulate well and not have anything snapping off. Neca does have the best record with figures
Oh, trust me, I was cringing during this review while he was flexing glued on pieces that very much can come off and did on mine (the belt, one of the helmet wings). Luckily you can glue them back, but he should not have been flexing the plume like that lol. It's not a ball joint haha. Wait until he falls over a few times in your display, you'll see. They're still awesome tho, but they're display pieces, not action figures. They really could do with some kind of stands.
