Not sure if you read these comments Jesse but I have a bit of advice regarding your sawmill & excavator. Get an inline pump and fill a water tank from the lake. If you have the tank placed abovy your log deck/sawmill you could run a pressure washer set up using a hose from the tank and your generator. Pressure washing the mud/gravel out of your excavator's undercarriage after every use is going to save you a ton of money in wear & tear. Also, you can use it to pressur wash your logs before milling and your sawmill blades will last a lot longer. Great video! Thanks!

My Grandfather had around 200 acres and lots of fun things like a gravel pit, a pecan orchard and backed up to a railroad with a trestle for swimming. further across the tracks was a pond and a creek. I remember needing to escape from time to time and connect with nature. In those times, I quieted myself and seemed to cease to exist and become one with my surroundings. Its really the only way I survived my childhood. Running bare footed thru plowed fields. Getting lost in a 50 acre corn patch and camping by the creek. Your kids are so fortunate that their father is preparing a paradise for them to grow into. Kudos my Friend. Cheers!!!

We moved to a more rural area and I have retired....I setup a small woodworking shop in our garage....but I found myself rolling the benches and saws out onto my awning covered driveway much of the year so that I could be outside even when working on a project.... I feel the call of the outdoors, and love to be outside....built a small chickshaw for our chickens...then a larger cattle panel hoop coup to give them a larger protected space....then a tunnel house for growing veggies year round and for keeping critters from taking our food.... that's just this summer. And like you say, with privileges come responsibilities.....and if you don't "pay attention" now to them, you'll "pay later".... same principle applies with your wife and family....give them the needed time and interest they need and deserve, and they'll give you a better future down the road too. o;)

When I lived in Alaska I got used to having clouds come in over the mountains and then lower down to ground level. So cool to see them coming in. In the winter they leave hoarfrost on everything. Clear ice that coats everything about a quarter inch deep. At night the headlights of the car on bright reflect off the trees and look like the trees are covered in diamonds. Really cool. Just gotta be careful walking LOL.

About your "geekin' out about dust collection" rant... you seem to be doing a lot of that lately. While there may be a few that get on you for that nit-picky crap, it seems like you may be letting them get under your skin. The rest of us pay them no attention and you shouldn't either. And once you let them go, you won't feel the need to rant at them. (I know your rants aren't aimed at most of us, but we still have to endure them.)

Here's a tip. Whenever you use metaltape like on the Y joints or waste gates or reducers of your dust collection system, use the backing paper (after removing it from the metaltape) to smooth the metaltape. I nearly cringed when I saw you smooth the metaltape with your hands! Those edges are sharp as a razor and I've had more cuts than I can count smoothing it with my bare hands. I just was up the wax paper backing and rub it on the tape and it leaves a nice burnished finish on your metaltape joints as well as superior contact and adhesion of your tape!
I LOVE your video here and I'm Subscribing to your awesome Channel!

Turtle wax glass cleaner is excellent and turtle wax seal and shine paint sealant is fantastic. And they are cheap! Last 6 months when you get a few coats on and boy do they mean you can see so much better in rain and then stay so much cleaner! We use them on our excavators tractors RTV and the Cat telehandler. Safety is so much better too

Seems non- intuitive, but when I was researching my dust collection system, everyone told me that the motor has the least stress on it when all the blast gates are closed. I was totally worried about burning it out or collapsing my pipes. I think you could confirm this by looking at the amp draw where it will be higher with gates open. Based on this, I decided to just get the long ranger remote that clips to my shop apron. I leave the DC on as I’m using various machines and open and close gates as needed. This reduces longer term wear by not having the DC have to be turned on and off constantly. So not to geek out on you as I like to keep it simple too, but wanted to share. 😂

Check out White Duck Outdoors for canvas, tarps, and tents. I've bought a couple tarps for my build through them and they are great quality and reasonable prices. We just had a big windstorm through here and my sun shelter shade ripped out (light cheap canvas that came with the shelter). I'm replacing the shade with the White Duck poly tarp which is far better stuff.

Four questions came to mind while watching the video.
    1. Did you find and fix your wiring problem?
    2. You are doing 'lumberjack' work out there which is notoriously dangerous and injuries are seldom minor.
It looks like you are working alone. What are you going to do if you get hurt?
    3. You are setting up your shop in a residential neighborhood with houses very close.
Are you going to have a problem with neighbors?
    4. You mentioned power at your property. How are you going to set up a shop there being off the grid?
I saw you using a Metabo tool. I had never heard of that brand and found out it was Hitachi.
I bought a dirt cheap Metabo miter saw just to get accurate cuts without having to use a hand saw.
From the reviews I'm seeing on UA-cam it supposed to be great.

@@jim6100 I assume Samurai is in in vancouver island (van isle) or at least BC where people learn how to operate a chainsaw in their early days. I can tell that Samurai Carpenter is a very experienced tool operator, although he's not super man and free from bad luck, he's judgement on how much to risk is at a very high professional level. In Vancouver Island, even if he had some company to help him from a bad ass accident, it would take him a good helicopter journey to the "nearest" hospital. To answer you second question, in Vancouver Island the average nearest neighbour is usually a few hundreds of meters away. In this case, miles away! No one is going to hear him doing wood work.
Being off grid is not a issue, you can get solar panels and batteries. It's not easy to run 3 phase stuff that requires more power but not impossible.
Metabo is a known brand, as with any other brand: you get what you paid for. Precision usually doesn't come along with cheap.
And no, you don't know me. And I don't think you know this channel or what he's doing. So that's why I advise you to keep on watching and get into the groove.

I hate to be negative, but I do not like your recent videos. I get that you're making longer videos, but I bet it hurts your click through rate and viewer retention very much. Some channels pull long videos off (Andrew Camarata comes to mind), but these last couple of videos have just been incoherent, little to no educational value, and random, long philosophical talks.
I wish you all the best in your endeavours, and absolutely believe there is good content to be made on your off-grid property. But I do believe you have to invest more into the videos, and not relying on that your subscribers want to watch and hear about anything that you happen to be doing in that moment.
If you're still reading, my suggestion would be: max 20 min videos, delivering on title/thumbnail, create a narrative/story for the video. You can still be doing unrelated things (for example shop infrastructure and felling timber), but give some narrative so we understand your motivation.
Long rant, sorry. All the best from a long time subscriber.
