I was thinking the same thing. This very successful/wealthy doctor just contacted her out of nowhere to ask for $3k. I know we aren’t supposed to blame the victim but was she high when she did this. It’s the only explanation I can think for someone falling for this.
Yeah that one was kind of on her (but obviously the scammer is a terrible person), although I guess she was probably excited to meet "Dr Mike" so was maybe not thinking very clearly. But you do have to be a bit dense to send 3000 dollars without checking if something's real or not. I'm guessing some sort of intoxication was a factor there though.
I love it when scammers call me. I will talk to them for hours without giving them any information. I take breaks, putting them on hold, saying things like "Hold on, my kids are bugging me I have to take care of this" (I don't have kids) or "Can you hold for a second I'm getting another call." It's a lot of fun to listen to them get more and more frustrated.
Remember, stuff is misspelled and have bad grammar ON PURPOSE, so that the scammers filter out most of the people who will see through their shenanigans quickly, before sending out money. They don't have infinite time either, so they need to focus on easy targets.

Honestly yeah. If she's THAT stupid she shouldn't have a phone anyway. I don't think she was a kid because kids don't usually just have $3000 in "tgeir" bank accounts that they can just transfer to someone without their parents noticing.
Agreed. Some scams are very detailed and confusing but I feel like some of them, like the one mentioned, just takes some common sense to think through.

True story, I didn't know who you were and I got a Facebook friend request from someone using your photo. I live in New Jersey and recognized your Atlantic Health System logo on your jacket and sent it to my friend and was like, omg look this scammer used an actual local doctor's photo to make a fake profile! My friend said, "isn't that Dr. Mike?!" And that is how I found your channel and became a fan! So sorry this has happened to you! It's really frustrating to have this going on.
The person who used the photo may not have known who Dr Mike was either, unless they also used the name Mike on their fake account. There's a decent chance they did a google image search for doctors and picked him because he looked friendly and professional.
Dr. Mike hopped into my inbox once before, but it was pretty clear it wasn't him. He's not randomly selecting a subscriber to suddenly fall in love with as much as some of us would love for that to be the case, lol. "Dr. Mike" asking you for money should 1000% be your red flag. Tell the scammer to hop on a video call & watch them make up an excuse not to. I've also come across his dating profile a few times as well when i used to use dating apps and I'd report them every time. Stay on your toes, people.
Doesn’t need to make sense when there’s people dumb enough to believe it. I don’t like victim blaming, but sometimes it’s hard to muster up any sympathy when the person is that stupid. At some point the responsibility falls on the individual. There’s only so much that can be done to protect people from their own incompetence.

In Germany, where I live, she would probably not have gotten anything (except maybe that her health insurance would have sued McDonalds to pay for treatment cost) because this is like a failed Turing test.
@@alexandernoe1619 we actually learned about the coffee case in one of my law classes. This suit was actually valid because it was 4th degree burns when it spilled on her lap. The car was not moving, and she was in the passenger seat. She had the lid open to put sugar in it
I was ALMOST scammed. I am a pro dancer and I got an IG message from a guy asking me to choreograph a piece for his daughter. I said I’d send him an invoice and he could pay me via paypal. He told me no, and asked me to send him a picture of a blank cheque so he could “wire” me the money…thats when I realized it was a scam…had my dad not taught me how to write a proper invoice I could have fallen for this. NEVER give anyone a blank cheque!!
One of my favourite things is messing with spam and scam callers. The more time I spend annoying them, the less time they’re talking to and hurting vulnerable people. It’s also a good stress outlet for me!
apparently there's a simulation now, that pretends to be an old granny and wastes scam callers' time. best and most productive use of AI that I've heard of so far (it was on the news in France a couple weeks ago)
Be careful with doing that. They can use AI to replicate your voice and scam those close to you. There was one case of a mother who got a call from people claiming to have her daughter and demanding ransom money, and her daughter's voice was on the other end, screaming for help. The mother called the daughter and she picked up, it was fine.
I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been contacted by someone pretending to be you on Facebook, Instagram, and even UA-cam. I just report them, then block them. If it ain’t from the official account, they ain’t the real Doctor Mike.
I get scam calls alot. I started to screw with them. Now I barely get any scam calls. I even threatened that i know ur a scammer and can go to hell for scamming people and know the country and headquarters is.
My funniest experience was when I commented on ONE instagram post of a celebrity that I don’t even care that much about, but they were getting some hate which I thought was unreasonable so I defended them. And then for WEEKS I got absolutely spammed with fake accounts of that person being like “I’m reaching out to some of my biggest fans to show my appreciation.” One even claimed to be their assistant, it was a really long and for once grammatically correct message, and it would’ve actually been very convincing if it weren’t for the fact that I wasn’t even a big fan of the celebrity in question. At this point I’ve stopped commenting support on celebrities’ accounts cause I just don’t want my dms to get flooded with fake accounts.
It is actually on purpose to filter out the most gullible people. They are reaching so many people that they can't waste their time on people that are to skeptic.
A DM involving money of any kind is always 100% an immediate scam! Never send money to strangers even when they offer money to you. Do not take money from strangers. You never want to be involved in a scam or have a crime pinned on you. It’s obvious when someone does not want to talk to you normally. If someone wants something out of you that’s a clear red flag.
As a criminology student who just completed a semester long project on romance scams... I had a really good chuckle when Mike called the scammer. I helped bust one of those romance scams. The person was pretending to be a US soldier who needed money to buy a satellite phone. They were trying to take advantage of a friend and I put a stop to it. The scammer was caught and actually arrested. I prevented several victims from loosing thousands. It was crazy.

Ita common type of scam and only blame is people stupid enough to believe in elementary school scam. Its equal to say "give me money, because of reasons".
Not really. The worst type of scams imo are the ones targeting elderly people. In my country the scammers are calling older people and confusing them to believe that their money is being stolen and needs to be transferred to a "safe account". Like wtf is wrong with them? Scamming an elderly person is the worst, they gan give them their whole life's savings 😢

Don’t forget those game apps that say stuff like “this can help with memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. Approved by Doctor Mike.” I remember being so confused cause he was on tour when that came out. 💀
Memory game's depending the game could be worst for you.. cause some game's give you awards and you become addicted at being awarded. So when children go too school and don't get awarded they don't bother studying and do worst in school
"Natural" always makes me chuckle, anytime someone you know keeps pushing a "Natural" alternative just tell them "Hemlock is natural, Wolfsbane is natural, Monks hood is natural, Deadly Nightshade is natural, Cyanide is natural, Arsinic-- you get the idea."
The fake podcast scam is nuts. I follow a channel called Triology Media that covers scams and scam busting as part of their content. They almost had one of these podcast scams get them. It’s just crazy! Thanks for covering all of these!
@ Yup it really is. Also, I finally remembered how it ended. So, after the Zoom call, the scammers would try to get access to your social media pages by asking to become an admin. I’m hoping by that point people would pick up on it being fake but just be careful out there.
A lot of these scams have terrible English once you’re in communication with the scammers but their initial messages are actually pretty good as they often use a template. The bad English usually is a good sign to watch out for though. 👍🏻
I got an email that my doctor was stuck in a foreign country and she lost her passport. Asking me to help her by sending money. The bad part was I knew she was away on holiday with her children. I thankfully knew her direct contact information and told her what happened. She was so upset and apologized for the scam email. Scary that they might have gotten somebody to actually send money.
@@EyeHeartSUSHI I get it it's annoying, but with wikipedia it's kinda understandable as 93% of their income is through donations from users and acquiring grants from various organizations. UA-camrs get money from AdSense and Sponsorships, many also have a Donation Platform like Patreon and sell Merchandise. So them asking for donations beyond a link in to the Patreon in the video is kinda weird.
I work as a brain injury specialist and one of our patients has been scammed multiple times with online purchases. Like Dr. Mike said, someone else might see the scam immediately, but scammers target the vulnerable. This patient was so excited to get a better deal on a product, only to lose access to their own debit card for a couple weeks. It’s disgraceful.
Your own family members can scam you, that hurts even more. I started to understand why grandma left me in charge of her banking, before she got dementia. Things started to happen quite fast as her memory started to fail, I got most of the money back, but lost family members in the process. It sucks to know you grew up among strangers.. and loved them!
Yup! I got my first one. (Made me feel official now that my channel is getting targeted lol) For me it was an email to review a product. I had to buy the product and they would pay me and wanted to work with my channel. Red flag thrown. Went to research and found out these scammers specifically target small creators only and thats basically how they do it. They say hey we represent this company and if you buy our product and review it we will work with you and pay you back and according to what i read with most people they buy the product on amazon the scammers change their store now and go silent and now you are dependent on amazon refunding you and in some cases they did to some people and others where denied refund. Point is i knew as my channel gained growth that it wouldn't be long and i was right. Stay safe out there folks! And thank you doctor mike and team for the great video! 👍

I got Sextrotion scammed while trying to find a life partner on dating apps, and I thought I was smart. These psychopaths are getting so complex, like I was talking to a real girl on the phone until they flipped the script on me. This really makes me extremely mistrusting of all information and likely to break down my trust of many things I see or hear. These psychopaths are really destroying lives and ability of people to communicate.
3:20 DoctorMike, Keras and TensorFlow are programming tools that let you design/use Machine Learning models (like GPT) through code. These models consist of hundreds/thousands of "layers" of "neurons" that perform specific mathematical calculations. These tools let you create or modify those models, and optimize them for the CPU or GPU on your computer.
Some people in the comments need to listen again to 13:07 and stop victim blaming, its awful seeing it even though Dr Mike already addressed the reasons people might fall for things YOU think might be obvious. Terrible behavior here.

last year, i was desperate to get out of my retail job at tjx and found a job that all of my friends said was reputable so i applied. gave them my SSN and everything and by the end of it, they'd tried to scam me out of $7000 that i didn't have, managed to get almost $2500, and destroyed my confidence. i was so vulnerable and then drowned in debt and bills. karma needs to get at these people because it's truly evil what they do.
When mike said "i have legal questions!" I legit said "legal eagle???!!!!" Out loud and was thrilled when he popped up. I love when yall do videos together!!

I don't feel bad in the slightest, I just hope they learned something even though the odds are low that they did. If they were capable of critical thinking, they wouldn't have fallen for it in the first place. If the US prioritized education we wouldn't be in so much trouble because much of the population is simply too stupid to be functional adults.
Sometimes i get both happy and sad with scams like this. Happy bcz they paid for their stupidity....im jz surprised at how stupid some people are that they think a big youtuber's gonna personally dm them on watsapp asking for 3k...and they really believed it. Sad bcz they are humans afterall and really lost their money.
As far as to why it's always a cardiologist: it simply sounds more impressive over a "boring" family medicine doctor and makes people more likely to engage with questions. A boring or gross title (like a proctologist) will just not get people hooked to engage with the scam.
Also, at least for that romance video game, cardiologists are considered sexy because they work with the heart, figuratively and literally. You see it in romance novels and Hallmark movies all the time.
Cardiologist helps them target people of a certain age that would be more likely to fall for this scam. Not very many people under 60 would search for a Cardiologist.
You’re doing such a great service putting this video out there. There are so many people being scammed and the creators never make videos teaching people how not to be scammed. It’s definitely hard to sue people who have scammed you out of money when they live in Nigeria…
It's a shame because some people are taking advantage off by those scammers. Everyone is always saying that it should be obvious that it is a scam, but not everyone knows it, so helping people by creating more awareness with this kind of video is a good first step. Thank you dr. Mike ❤
Every time I see these scams on Facebook (and I see tons of them, impersonating all sorts of creators and celebrities). Unfortunately, when I report them it's 50/50 whether Facebook will take them down. A lot of times I'll get a reply to my report stating that the account "did not violate Meta's terms of service" (or something along those lines). It's honestly exhausting dealing with these scams all the time. (I'm an author so I also get targeted by a lot of "book promotion" scams on top of everything else).
You can clearly hear that the dude on the phone is not native english, and this is often a good sign of a scammer. Scary thing is that AI voices are getting much better and will remove this "safeguard"

They make these various scam calls, including from Microsoft, to which my husband usually replies that he doesn't have Windows, because he uses Linux. :D And I've also seen various videos and read articles about how some people deliberately stay to tease these scammers, even though they know the call is a scam. Then there was a UA-camr who apparently hacked the cameras of one of the scam shops and exposed this group. Exactly right for them. Another way is to tell this scammer that he only gets a very small share of the entire amount, because the boss takes most of it for himself and only distributes small amounts to his subordinates. A small dispute over money at a scam shop slows down the scamming activity, at least for a while. Because I suspect that those scammers there do scam each other, and there doesn't seem to be any kind of honor between scammers. Then there are all the nice answers like: The police, the morgue, etc. Here, the only limit is your imagination and the call ends quickly. Would it work if you said; Agent Mulder from the X-Files department, how can I help you? Did you call here to tell me you saw an alien?
Oh my gosh. Thank you so much for bringing this to attention for your viewers. I work as a bank teller and there are so many customers who fall for things like this. People need to be more aware, stop to think, and please, please do no outsmart your common sense.
A scammer pretending to be UA-cam just got two big scam baiting youtubers. They are getting more creative and intelligent and it's so sccary. It's so important that you put this out there!!
I know Jim Browning was conned a while ago. He was tricked into deleting his entire YT channel. Everything was okay in the end, but that's scary AF. If the scambaiters can be scammed, then _anyone_ can be scammed. 😭
The very first piece of advice I'd give anyone about scams: never, EVER trust anything that suddenly offers you something of value for no apparent reason (that especially goes for things you never requested in the first place). People will even impersonate people you know through social media to get at you for these things. If any of it seems remotely out of character for them, flee it. If necessary, investigate it to the max to see if any of it is legit before acting upon the information.
My mom can't even talk about how much money my grandparents had been scammed out of over the years. They were incredibly lucky to have owned their home or they'd have nothing to pay for their care now that they're both in their 90s
Good on you for sending the zoom link to the experts. Who knows what might have happened if you hopped on that call. They also could have just recorded your video feed and used that to deepfake verification videos to legitimize the scam.
Exactly! It's not always the victim's fault. Some people aren't as clear in the head when emotionally vulnerable, when they're younger or older, or some people just don't even think. Yes, there will always be some accountability to be taken by the victim if they are of sound mind and judgement, but the blame will always be on the scammers.

I fell for a scam once, not involving Doctor Mike, but involving someone else. A person had hijacked the email address of someone I knew and asked everyone if they could purchase Amazon gift cards for them. Sadly, I fell for it. I actually had the scam attempted a second time, and this time the person whose email address was hijacked was someone I hadn’t spoken to in years. And I learned from last time.
This hurts my soul. People taking the name of Doctor Mike, one of the most kindhearted and genuine creators on this platform, and using his good name to scam people. It makes me want to throw up the lunch that I just ate.
The picture they chose for the NHS one is particularly wild, because NHS doctors don't tend to wear those white coats nowadays (they usually wear either standardised scrubs or their own clothes, depending on the role and task).

Thank you for making this video! I hope someone sees and and it helps them. I work at a big box retailer and we see this stuff all the time. My husband works in the electronics section and had an older woman wanting to buy Steam gift cards. $300 worth. No problem. Until my husband said that "someone was getting a great gift" and she told him nope, she was sending it to Taylor Swift, who needed them. He refused to sell them at that point and told her it was a scam. She said she knew(!!!) but wanted them anyway. He refused again, and she went to customer service to complain. She even broke out the tears, lol. She was intentionally refusing to listen to anyone who told her it was a scam. Long story short - she didn't get the cards. At least at our store. But ugh.

Also - beware of checks too. A more traditional version of the scam is someone sending you a check and then saying they overpaid and to just send the money back. After a couple of days the check bounces and you now have a negative bank account you are responsible for. 😢
@@ebot1944 they pay you in check(like a reward) but then call/text you saying they overpaid/gave a bigger amount than what was promised. Then they ask you to pay the excess amount back (using paypal/debit/credit cards or sometimes crypto) and when you think that you got a big reward the check bounces and that's how you get scammed

@@ebot1944 Not knowing something is not the same as being stupid. Usually the scam involves something too good to be true, and the people who typically fall pray are people in a rough financial spot. Here is an example. You find an advertisement online: "We'll pay you to advertise for our company: $1000 if you agree to wrap your car with our ad!". You contact the fraudster and the fraudster overnights you a check. Instead of the $1000 that was agreed upon, they send you $1500. The fraudster will be tracking the overnighted mail and as soon as you get it, the fraudster will message you that they sent the extra because their local agent will need $500 in cash for materials and installation. No bid deal, they sent you the extra $500 to cover it, all you have to do is forward $500 in cash to the local agent/installer. You go to your local bank/credit union to cash the check, keeping $1000 for yourself, and hand the $500 over in cash to the agent. After that you never really hear about scheduling installation, in fact, the fraudster has now ghosted you and the number is disconnected. You aren't too worried, you have an extra $1000 in your pocket, surely the bank would have told you if the check was bad... But, it turns out when you sign the back of the check, you take responsibility for the funds. It actually takes a few days to verify funds between banks, but most banks will honor the check you endorsed by making the funds available immediately. In our example, after a few days have gone by and the funds are actually verified, it turns out that the check you cashed was fake/stolen. Your bank reverses the $1500 credit it advanced you for the check (deducting $1500 from your account), if you didn't have any funds in your account, your account will be taken negative $1500. Now you are out $1500 and the scammers got away with $500 from you. At this point you should file a police report. If you know the person you might be able to get your money back, but in most cases these fraudsters are not even in your local area and/or only communicated with you remotely which makes it very hard to track them down for legal or criminal action. And they aren't just scamming you, they probably sent out a few hundred of these bad checks. Not all of the checks get cashed, but enough for the scammers to make a few thousand dollars and move on to the next scam. If you are suspicious of a check (re: any check you know the sender) you can let your bank know. Your bank may be able to reach out to the financial institution the check is drawn from and verify funds (not all banks/credit unions will disclose the information), if they can't verify funds, they could put the funds on hold for a few days for it to clear. (In our case, if a hold had been placed the $1500 would have been in the account, but inaccessible, the bank reversed the credit, you wouldn't be out any money). Scammers will usually try to keep you from talking to your bank about the check by scaring you( "if you tell your bank, you'll have to pay taxes!!" or something similar). Never trust an overpayment. If someone pays you too much, it's a huge red flag for fraud. While financial institutions often offer what seems like "instant" transfers between banks, in reality, they actually offer instant provisional credits. The actual verification of funds takes several days. If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
@@ebot1944from my understanding, the scammer sends a fake physical check w fake info directly to you for any reason, maybe you’re working for an online business, or you were asked to do a job for some cash. You cash the check, then they ask to send money back to them via crypto or giftcard or even mail since they maybe sent a little too much or your “pay” comes from the check you just cashed. Your bank may take it, and your account may show an increased balance, but once they find out it’s fake, it bounces and they take that balance away. If you spent the money from that now decreased balance, you’re gonna be out that amount, and you’re gonna be liable for that money you took. Long comment ik, but hope this helps! I’m sorry to hear this. To have to deal with imposters that profit off your reputation. At the same time, people need to take responsibility of themselves when they don’t use common sense and fall for these BS scams.
As a social worker, I'm confident that these scammer prey on the most vulnerable. It's disgusting that lonely seniors down on their luck get gutted for their money.
Glad you finally addressed this issue because I can’t stand when I see these types of posts/accounts, especially since I’ve been contacted by a number of these types of accounts pretending to be high profile celebrities and/or public figures.
Scams using someone else's identity in the form of ads can be reported. On UA-cam there's 3 dots on top of each other and you can report those ads after clicking on them. I do it all the time with the Mrbeast scam ads I see on UA-cam. In the end if you find a scam online and can actually report it always report it. It doesn't take much time to report them.
I don't understand how they can mistake you for a specialist. Genuinely never met a medical specialist who was able to talk to people like a normal human.
These scams should be stopped! I'm not even UA-cam famous and has my photo stolen and used to sell a knee brace. I called them out and they offered me a job as a content creator.

The punjabi one got me. They offered under the table organs for the lowest prices you’ve ever heard. As a doctor, you know you can’t pass up a good deal on organs. Here I am, the sucker who’s out 20,000$ and all I got was pigs heart.
I receive requests all the time from scammers offering to give me money. It's a sad situation because these scammers are targeting vulnerable people. Unfortunately, no matter what you do there are people out in the world with full autonomy over themselves that just don't quite have the mental acuity or life experience(naivety)to be able to tell what the average person can tell is a scam and that will never change. All you can do is hope these people have nice friends willing to steer them out of these situations.

I was thinking the same thing. This very successful/wealthy doctor just contacted her out of nowhere to ask for $3k. I know we aren’t supposed to blame the victim but was she high when she did this. It’s the only explanation I can think for someone falling for this.

But you do have to be a bit dense to send 3000 dollars without checking if something's real or not. I'm guessing some sort of intoxication was a factor there though.

I love it when scammers call me. I will talk to them for hours without giving them any information. I take breaks, putting them on hold, saying things like "Hold on, my kids are bugging me I have to take care of this" (I don't have kids) or "Can you hold for a second I'm getting another call." It's a lot of fun to listen to them get more and more frustrated.
I love playing with them. It's that much more time they can't spend scamming someone else.

True story, I didn't know who you were and I got a Facebook friend request from someone using your photo. I live in New Jersey and recognized your Atlantic Health System logo on your jacket and sent it to my friend and was like, omg look this scammer used an actual local doctor's photo to make a fake profile! My friend said, "isn't that Dr. Mike?!" And that is how I found your channel and became a fan!

The person who used the photo may not have known who Dr Mike was either, unless they also used the name Mike on their fake account. There's a decent chance they did a google image search for doctors and picked him because he looked friendly and professional.
Dr. Mike hopped into my inbox once before, but it was pretty clear it wasn't him. He's not randomly selecting a subscriber to suddenly fall in love with as much as some of us would love for that to be the case, lol. "Dr. Mike" asking you for money should 1000% be your red flag. Tell the scammer to hop on a video call & watch them make up an excuse not to. I've also come across his dating profile a few times as well when i used to use dating apps and I'd report them every time. Stay on your toes, people.

I was ALMOST scammed. I am a pro dancer and I got an IG message from a guy asking me to choreograph a piece for his daughter. I said I’d send him an invoice and he could pay me via paypal. He told me no, and asked me to send him a picture of a blank cheque so he could “wire” me the money…thats when I realized it was a scam…had my dad not taught me how to write a proper invoice I could have fallen for this. NEVER give anyone a blank cheque!!
One of my favourite things is messing with spam and scam callers. The more time I spend annoying them, the less time they’re talking to and hurting vulnerable people. It’s also a good stress outlet for me!

Be careful with doing that. They can use AI to replicate your voice and scam those close to you. There was one case of a mother who got a call from people claiming to have her daughter and demanding ransom money, and her daughter's voice was on the other end, screaming for help. The mother called the daughter and she picked up, it was fine.

I get scam calls alot. I started to screw with them. Now I barely get any scam calls. I even threatened that i know ur a scammer and can go to hell for scamming people and know the country and headquarters is.
My funniest experience was when I commented on ONE instagram post of a celebrity that I don’t even care that much about, but they were getting some hate which I thought was unreasonable so I defended them. And then for WEEKS I got absolutely spammed with fake accounts of that person being like “I’m reaching out to some of my biggest fans to show my appreciation.” One even claimed to be their assistant, it was a really long and for once grammatically correct message, and it would’ve actually been very convincing if it weren’t for the fact that I wasn’t even a big fan of the celebrity in question. At this point I’ve stopped commenting support on celebrities’ accounts cause I just don’t want my dms to get flooded with fake accounts.

A DM involving money of any kind is always 100% an immediate scam! Never send money to strangers even when they offer money to you. Do not take money from strangers. You never want to be involved in a scam or have a crime pinned on you. It’s obvious when someone does not want to talk to you normally. If someone wants something out of you that’s a clear red flag.

I helped bust one of those romance scams. The person was pretending to be a US soldier who needed money to buy a satellite phone. They were trying to take advantage of a friend and I put a stop to it.
The scammer was caught and actually arrested.
I prevented several victims from loosing thousands. It was crazy.
Love scam are long cons, before they'd be using recorded clips to chat, but now with AI filters... It's getting quite scary.

Ask them to send a picture of Bear
It can help to be more specific “a picture of Bear with a yellow ball under his paw.”
No, ask them how to do chest compressions
As long as you then reverse-image search it to make sure it wasn’t just downloaded, sure… though I’m not even sure that’s a guarantee.
I think it"ll be better to ask about Bear with Ribosaurus Rex, since it's an inside joke (probably less known)

The fake podcast scam is nuts. I follow a channel called Triology Media that covers scams and scam busting as part of their content. They almost had one of these podcast scams get them. It’s just crazy! Thanks for covering all of these!

@ Yup it really is. Also, I finally remembered how it ended. So, after the Zoom call, the scammers would try to get access to your social media pages by asking to become an admin. I’m hoping by that point people would pick up on it being fake but just be careful out there.

A lot of these scams have terrible English once you’re in communication with the scammers but their initial messages are actually pretty good as they often use a template. The bad English usually is a good sign to watch out for though. 👍🏻
I got an email that my doctor was stuck in a foreign country and she lost her passport. Asking me to help her by sending money. The bad part was I knew she was away on holiday with her children. I thankfully knew her direct contact information and told her what happened. She was so upset and apologized for the scam email. Scary that they might have gotten somebody to actually send money.

UA-camrs get money from AdSense and Sponsorships, many also have a Donation Platform like Patreon and sell Merchandise. So them asking for donations beyond a link in to the Patreon in the video is kinda weird.
I work as a brain injury specialist and one of our patients has been scammed multiple times with online purchases. Like Dr. Mike said, someone else might see the scam immediately, but scammers target the vulnerable. This patient was so excited to get a better deal on a product, only to lose access to their own debit card for a couple weeks. It’s disgraceful.

Things started to happen quite fast as her memory started to fail, I got most of the money back, but lost family members in the process. It sucks to know you grew up among strangers.. and loved them!

For me it was an email to review a product. I had to buy the product and they would pay me and wanted to work with my channel.
Red flag thrown. Went to research and found out these scammers specifically target small creators only and thats basically how they do it.
They say hey we represent this company and if you buy our product and review it we will work with you and pay you back and according to what i read with most people they buy the product on amazon the scammers change their store now and go silent and now you are dependent on amazon refunding you and in some cases they did to some people and others where denied refund.
Point is i knew as my channel gained growth that it wouldn't be long and i was right.

I got Sextrotion scammed while trying to find a life partner on dating apps, and I thought I was smart. These psychopaths are getting so complex, like I was talking to a real girl on the phone until they flipped the script on me. This really makes me extremely mistrusting of all information and likely to break down my trust of many things I see or hear. These psychopaths are really destroying lives and ability of people to communicate.

last year, i was desperate to get out of my retail job at tjx and found a job that all of my friends said was reputable so i applied. gave them my SSN and everything and by the end of it, they'd tried to scam me out of $7000 that i didn't have, managed to get almost $2500, and destroyed my confidence. i was so vulnerable and then drowned in debt and bills. karma needs to get at these people because it's truly evil what they do.

As far as to why it's always a cardiologist: it simply sounds more impressive over a "boring" family medicine doctor and makes people more likely to engage with questions. A boring or gross title (like a proctologist) will just not get people hooked to engage with the scam.
Some people will ask General Practitioners the kind of questions that will fail smell tests.
Also, at least for that romance video game, cardiologists are considered sexy because they work with the heart, figuratively and literally. You see it in romance novels and Hallmark movies all the time.
Cardiologist helps them target people of a certain age that would be more likely to fall for this scam. Not very many people under 60 would search for a Cardiologist.
You’re doing such a great service putting this video out there. There are so many people being scammed and the creators never make videos teaching people how not to be scammed. It’s definitely hard to sue people who have scammed you out of money when they live in Nigeria…

Every time I see these scams on Facebook (and I see tons of them, impersonating all sorts of creators and celebrities). Unfortunately, when I report them it's 50/50 whether Facebook will take them down. A lot of times I'll get a reply to my report stating that the account "did not violate Meta's terms of service" (or something along those lines). It's honestly exhausting dealing with these scams all the time. (I'm an author so I also get targeted by a lot of "book promotion" scams on top of everything else).
You can clearly hear that the dude on the phone is not native english, and this is often a good sign of a scammer. Scary thing is that AI voices are getting much better and will remove this "safeguard"

They make these various scam calls, including from Microsoft, to which my husband usually replies that he doesn't have Windows, because he uses Linux. :D And I've also seen various videos and read articles about how some people deliberately stay to tease these scammers, even though they know the call is a scam. Then there was a UA-camr who apparently hacked the cameras of one of the scam shops and exposed this group. Exactly right for them.
Another way is to tell this scammer that he only gets a very small share of the entire amount, because the boss takes most of it for himself and only distributes small amounts to his subordinates. A small dispute over money at a scam shop slows down the scamming activity, at least for a while.
Because I suspect that those scammers there do scam each other, and there doesn't seem to be any kind of honor between scammers.
Then there are all the nice answers like: The police, the morgue, etc. Here, the only limit is your imagination and the call ends quickly.

A scammer pretending to be UA-cam just got two big scam baiting youtubers. They are getting more creative and intelligent and it's so sccary. It's so important that you put this out there!!
I know Jim Browning was conned a while ago. He was tricked into deleting his entire YT channel. Everything was okay in the end, but that's scary AF. If the scambaiters can be scammed, then _anyone_ can be scammed. 😭

The very first piece of advice I'd give anyone about scams: never, EVER trust anything that suddenly offers you something of value for no apparent reason (that especially goes for things you never requested in the first place). People will even impersonate people you know through social media to get at you for these things. If any of it seems remotely out of character for them, flee it. If necessary, investigate it to the max to see if any of it is legit before acting upon the information.

My mom can't even talk about how much money my grandparents had been scammed out of over the years. They were incredibly lucky to have owned their home or they'd have nothing to pay for their care now that they're both in their 90s
Good on you for sending the zoom link to the experts. Who knows what might have happened if you hopped on that call. They also could have just recorded your video feed and used that to deepfake verification videos to legitimize the scam.

Exactly! It's not always the victim's fault. Some people aren't as clear in the head when emotionally vulnerable, when they're younger or older, or some people just don't even think. Yes, there will always be some accountability to be taken by the victim if they are of sound mind and judgement, but the blame will always be on the scammers.

I fell for a scam once, not involving Doctor Mike, but involving someone else. A person had hijacked the email address of someone I knew and asked everyone if they could purchase Amazon gift cards for them. Sadly, I fell for it. I actually had the scam attempted a second time, and this time the person whose email address was hijacked was someone I hadn’t spoken to in years. And I learned from last time.
This hurts my soul. People taking the name of Doctor Mike, one of the most kindhearted and genuine creators on this platform, and using his good name to scam people. It makes me want to throw up the lunch that I just ate.
The picture they chose for the NHS one is particularly wild, because NHS doctors don't tend to wear those white coats nowadays (they usually wear either standardised scrubs or their own clothes, depending on the role and task).
They are counting on people not knowing this.

I work at a big box retailer and we see this stuff all the time. My husband works in the electronics section and had an older woman wanting to buy Steam gift cards. $300 worth. No problem. Until my husband said that "someone was getting a great gift" and she told him nope, she was sending it to Taylor Swift, who needed them. He refused to sell them at that point and told her it was a scam. She said she knew(!!!) but wanted them anyway. He refused again, and she went to customer service to complain. She even broke out the tears, lol. She was intentionally refusing to listen to anyone who told her it was a scam.
Long story short - she didn't get the cards. At least at our store. But ugh.

Also - beware of checks too. A more traditional version of the scam is someone sending you a check and then saying they overpaid and to just send the money back. After a couple of days the check bounces and you now have a negative bank account you are responsible for. 😢

@@ebot1944 they pay you in check(like a reward) but then call/text you saying they overpaid/gave a bigger amount than what was promised. Then they ask you to pay the excess amount back (using paypal/debit/credit cards or sometimes crypto) and when you think that you got a big reward the check bounces and that's how you get scammed

@@ebot1944 Not knowing something is not the same as being stupid. Usually the scam involves something too good to be true, and the people who typically fall pray are people in a rough financial spot.
Here is an example. You find an advertisement online: "We'll pay you to advertise for our company: $1000 if you agree to wrap your car with our ad!". You contact the fraudster and the fraudster overnights you a check. Instead of the $1000 that was agreed upon, they send you $1500. The fraudster will be tracking the overnighted mail and as soon as you get it, the fraudster will message you that they sent the extra because their local agent will need $500 in cash for materials and installation. No bid deal, they sent you the extra $500 to cover it, all you have to do is forward $500 in cash to the local agent/installer.
You go to your local bank/credit union to cash the check, keeping $1000 for yourself, and hand the $500 over in cash to the agent. After that you never really hear about scheduling installation, in fact, the fraudster has now ghosted you and the number is disconnected. You aren't too worried, you have an extra $1000 in your pocket, surely the bank would have told you if the check was bad...
But, it turns out when you sign the back of the check, you take responsibility for the funds. It actually takes a few days to verify funds between banks, but most banks will honor the check you endorsed by making the funds available immediately. In our example, after a few days have gone by and the funds are actually verified, it turns out that the check you cashed was fake/stolen. Your bank reverses the $1500 credit it advanced you for the check (deducting $1500 from your account), if you didn't have any funds in your account, your account will be taken negative $1500. Now you are out $1500 and the scammers got away with $500 from you.
At this point you should file a police report. If you know the person you might be able to get your money back, but in most cases these fraudsters are not even in your local area and/or only communicated with you remotely which makes it very hard to track them down for legal or criminal action. And they aren't just scamming you, they probably sent out a few hundred of these bad checks. Not all of the checks get cashed, but enough for the scammers to make a few thousand dollars and move on to the next scam.
If you are suspicious of a check (re: any check you know the sender) you can let your bank know. Your bank may be able to reach out to the financial institution the check is drawn from and verify funds (not all banks/credit unions will disclose the information), if they can't verify funds, they could put the funds on hold for a few days for it to clear. (In our case, if a hold had been placed the $1500 would have been in the account, but inaccessible, the bank reversed the credit, you wouldn't be out any money). Scammers will usually try to keep you from talking to your bank about the check by scaring you( "if you tell your bank, you'll have to pay taxes!!" or something similar).
Never trust an overpayment. If someone pays you too much, it's a huge red flag for fraud. While financial institutions often offer what seems like "instant" transfers between banks, in reality, they actually offer instant provisional credits. The actual verification of funds takes several days.
If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
@@ebot1944from my understanding, the scammer sends a fake physical check w fake info directly to you for any reason, maybe you’re working for an online business, or you were asked to do a job for some cash. You cash the check, then they ask to send money back to them via crypto or giftcard or even mail since they maybe sent a little too much or your “pay” comes from the check you just cashed. Your bank may take it, and your account may show an increased balance, but once they find out it’s fake, it bounces and they take that balance away. If you spent the money from that now decreased balance, you’re gonna be out that amount, and you’re gonna be liable for that money you took.

I’m sorry to hear this. To have to deal with imposters that profit off your reputation. At the same time, people need to take responsibility of themselves when they don’t use common sense and fall for these BS scams.
As a social worker, I'm confident that these scammer prey on the most vulnerable. It's disgusting that lonely seniors down on their luck get gutted for their money.

Glad you finally addressed this issue because I can’t stand when I see these types of posts/accounts, especially since I’ve been contacted by a number of these types of accounts pretending to be high profile celebrities and/or public figures.
Hearing Dr Mike call a Hearse a 'Morgue Car' is genuinely funny. I keep seeing these scams appear and always wonder, "What's the end goal?"
Scams using someone else's identity in the form of ads can be reported. On UA-cam there's 3 dots on top of each other and you can report those ads after clicking on them. I do it all the time with the Mrbeast scam ads I see on UA-cam.
In the end if you find a scam online and can actually report it always report it. It doesn't take much time to report them.
Ironically it looks like the real Mr Beast is a scammer as there is a lot of accusations about his fake Competitions amongst other worrying stuff.

I don't understand how they can mistake you for a specialist. Genuinely never met a medical specialist who was able to talk to people like a normal human.

These scams should be stopped! I'm not even UA-cam famous and has my photo stolen and used to sell a knee brace. I called them out and they offered me a job as a content creator.

I receive requests all the time from scammers offering to give me money. It's a sad situation because these scammers are targeting vulnerable people. If it sounds to good to be true then it most definitely is too good to be true. Protect yourselves people. Never give out your personal information, be smart.

Omg i’m glad you put out this video last week. I got a message on Facebook someone claiming to be you. Said a lot of nice cute things but…. I know it wasn’t you so I had blocked and reported them, but the reports don’t go through Facebook allows it.!!

That’s why I don’t comment on Dr. Mike’s videos on FB anymore. I had to set my FB to private and only friends of friends can send friend requests.

Unfortunately, no matter what you do there are people out in the world with full autonomy over themselves that just don't quite have the mental acuity or life experience(naivety)to be able to tell what the average person can tell is a scam and that will never change. All you can do is hope these people have nice friends willing to steer them out of these situations.
I am glad you said that as thats why we have do what we can to protect the Vulnerable by reporting if possible.
