After watching this I immediately purchased the audiobook this talk is based on. This was the first "self help" book that really clicked with me. It felt like practical advice that can really be applied in real life as opposed to just feel good beatitudes trying to amp you up. Great job Scott.
Scott ~ We have had your comic book in our patient lounge for many years. As we watch your video, we like how you use conditioning to establish healthy habits and we love the diagram that healthy habits are the foundation of good health and energy and success. This presentation is very well done. We will add this to our patient library website. Thank you! ~ Sunita
Now I understand myself after all these years. I am a system kind of person as I've never had a goal in my life. No bucket list whatsoever... but then I've lived in US, UK, Russia, Italy, S. Arabia, S.Korea, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Jakarta, and have travelled to so many parts in this world. Thanks Scott! You touch an attribute in me that I could never have been able to explain myself what it is.
He said he took a 40% decline in income. Seems like he's still doing fine, and he's delivering world-class insight into politics. Scott Adams represents the best of America, he's a national treasure.
16 years in a row I go to Lotusphere / IBM Connect and the one year my company doesn't send me I miss Scott Adams! Great keynote Scott, glad I didn't miss it even if I didn't see it in person. Gonna go buy your book now!
Hi Mr A. I haven't seen all the video or book yet, but I'll still be recommending it to all my clients (English Language learners). The book looks great in many ways for language learners. It looks nice (some images), short chapters (bite size challenges) and universal topics, If I update the automatic translations and send you a link, you could put them on the video, (obviously making it more accessible). Yours appreciatively.
He is so spot on. Except for the potatoes vs. pasta factoid. Baked potatoes have a very high glycenic index, but boiled potatoes have a comparable glycemic index to pasta and rice. But boiled potatoes have only half of the caloric content of boiled pasta or rice. So on balance potatoes come out ahead if you just don't bake them.
I think there's a point being missed here. Systems and goals are not mutually exclusive. Firstly "goals" like becoming rich or getting fit aren't goals so much as states of being. My current state is obese and I want to get to a state of being fit. A goal actually needs to be specific and have a deadline (well you don't *have to* have a deadline see below). 'I want to lose 50 lbs by next June'. Next you choose a system to get you to the goal. Losing 10 lbs is a kind of goal but it doesn't have a deadline so it won't work as a goal. Using willpower could be categorized as a system that isn't a very good one. So in order to get too the goal you need to choose a different system. Maybe running everyday or counting calories would work. Conversely I could use the system of writing an hour everyday but I wouldn't necessarily finish a book. I might end up writing a book's worth of words but since I have no goal I have no book. Instead my goal is to write a book. How I accomplish the goal is choosing a system to get to the goal. I might write one page a week and eventually hit my goal. I should rephrase a little, you don't necessarily need a dead line. For instance I might not care if I'm ever published so if I take 10 years to write it, I will still eventually get to my goal, unless I happen to die. Nothing wrong with goals if they're specific enough. You can also use a system to get into a state of being. I want to stay fit (state of fitness) I run every day, or whatever.
Uhfgood Yeah it’s the balance of both, set a goal then create a system however if you want it to become a lifestyle change then you strictly follow a system
You may call this word thinking but honestly passion isn't how you portrayed it - true passion is for doing what you love just for doing it, not for anything else - if you see it this way then you'll see every successful or most successful people e.g. Einstein, Van Gogh, they had true passion in what they did. Maybe it's helpful to clarify your definition for the word so that you can avoid misleading people?
He is wrong about pasta being better than potato for weight loss. Baked potatoes are way more filling ( look up satiety index of potato). Pasta is a fine food to eat as well though
Potatoes are better also beacuse they contain more Resistant Starch than pasta. That' better for diet. When boiled the quantity is 2-3%, but if eaten cold, that can go up to 6%.
Once you become successful you can say whatever bullshit you want and people will listen to you. What kind of eg is he giving... Chasing girls in his college days, systematically ? So girls were an object for him and his friend ? Very bad e.g. No wonder he starts with a list of failed goals like a laundry list ( very grim view). I can understand looking at some areas where you want to focus but this guy is so unscientific in his approach, it hard to fathom. I think his last point sums it all up. He was lucky. Thats it !
There is no set of rules, templates or formulas that will guarantee success to anyone. His approach may seem unscientific to you, but you can't knock it because the man found success. I don't think his mentioning of girls in high school was a bad example, it's actually universal. People will always be attentive and receptive to successful individuals for the obvious reason of success, but only the few who make it eventually realize one key thing; they did it their way. Scott acknowledges his shortcomings, is creative nonetheless, and communicates in an accessible manner, I don't see where your criticism comes from.
He's successful but his repeat success impresses - first with Dilbert then with the new political Trump commentary. He has insight into human behavior and how we operate.

one of my gems, i keep rewatching it always!
Love it. Thanks so much Scott. The new book is unbelievable.
How are things going now?
Enjoyed the lecture and learned a few! Delivered quite humorous!
I see Dilbert's bosses daily. Failure seems to be so easily shared by managers. I appreciate how Scott Adams has made the horror funny.
Got to see him do this speech in person this weekend. Also got to have a one on one conversation with him too. He's a cool guy and also smart.
That's some serious goal setting there!
This is before you were black listed for the unforgivable crime of not hating Trump hysterically.
That was his 37th failure
He said he took a 40% decline in income. Seems like he's still doing fine, and he's delivering world-class insight into politics. Scott Adams represents the best of America, he's a national treasure.
The new book is fantastic.

U deserve a noble prize Mr Scott
💗💗💗
Thank you sir for everything!

Funny and informative. Systems over willpower!
I've read the new book before seeing this. You sum up the book pretty well, but I enjoyed the humour in the book more.
How are things going now?
I have had a goal of getting under 200 lbs, now I will use a system of eating healthy and working out every day.
Scott, you can think. The world does not have much call for that, outside of engineers designing new things.
You should make more videos.
This guy is like Larry David minus Brooklyn.
and the Judaism

So he does have a torso

The presentation would be considerably better without the food choice and fat shaming, which really is very unfortunate.

Sandy get over yourself

Think outside the box and be successful like him..stay within prescribed scientism and stay stagnant and unsuccessful like yourself ..😜
