The goth kids in South Park are awesome. They literally steal the show every single time they appear. When it comes to representing goths they might be too accurate for some.
Honestly, the South Park Goth Kids seem to be such a perceptive (if tongue-in-cheek) nod to the real-life goth community that I won’t accept that Trey Parker and Matt Stone aren’t somewhat gothically-inclined themselves. I mean, they actually got Robert Smith voice himself in the ‘Mecha-Streisand’ episode, at the end of which Stan even says “Disintegration is the best album ever!” So they’re definitely more aware of the actual goth subculture than most gothic characters in pop-culture, at the very least. What I wouldn’t give to hear them go off on the real-life gatekeeper types... LMAO
Also they were teenagers in the late 80s so obviously they saw the first big goth movement. Probably they had friends who were goths so they knew exactly what to satire.
I think that is exactly what they did by representing the Goth community like that and giving them the episodes and a lot of the scene. I fully agree with your comment. As goths, you can see the gatekeeping Lynn is also talking about, it's what South Park does as a theme, shine light on social illogic. The 'Emo's are posers' is that. S tier!
matt and trey are really great at studying culture must have some sort of anthropology degree or something because they just understand how different community's work. It's not just goth that they have done a great job at representing it's everything.
Definitely agree with Conor that the South Park goth kids should be in S tier. While I agree with Lynn that they aren't a very desirable representation of goths, they are arguably the most "legit" ones on the list. The others are dark alternative folks, sure, but the goth kids are the only ones (afaik) who are confirmed members of the actual goth subculture, rather than just black-clad spooky characters.
I can forgive the negative aspects of the depiction because it's goddamn South Park. A show so crass and often lacking in nuance actually managed to provide a surprisingly accurate depiction of the subculture. I love that the creators did their research. Update : I have changed my way of thinking about South Park Goths after reading many comments! I'm aware at the time I was thinking too far into something that was only a joke! At the end of the day I laughed at the episodes and don't take it too seriously. I just wanted the other goth cartoons to be before them because they had no negativity that came with them!

Couple things: -You're not old (under 35 yeah?) -Jane's brother Trent was more goth than Jane -South Park goths are the most goth characters ever depicted. The gatekeeping goth archetype is part of us and our shadow side. When people make light of it, it's hilarious and lets everyone know we don't take ourselves so damn seriously. Like only allowing you in the club if you own the original pressing of Release the Bats from 1983 or something, LOL.
i agree with trent being more goth, given the sisters of mercy poster he's got in his room and his whole music thing but i feel jane is more "visibly" alternative if that makes sense. i kinda think she shouldve been a bit higher but i think that's my own bias towards her as a character
Ruby Gloom: -dresses goth just for the love of it -listens to goth and rock and metal and such (listens to many different musical genres however) -loves rain -loves murder mystery, plays the games and reads the novels and such -loves crows and bats and black cats -loves the dark and macabre/unafraid of death imagery and iconography (not as in she’s not afraid to die but most people are made uncomfortable by things to do with death like death imagery like guillotines or skulls or coffins and such) -is all about being yourself and expressing yourself -embraces the weird -finds the beauty and fun in the dark and weird and morose and all of that Conclusion: Ruby Gloom is the ultimate goth
the south park goths represent more of the elder goths. but i do agree that they do deserve to be in S tier. i think lynn took that shit way too seriously 🤣.
I'm sorry, Lynn, but I have to agree with Conner 100 percent about the South Park goths. Those characters are everyone I hung out with in high school, and me too. I'd knock the Scooby girls down and the South Park goths up.
Mandy from the Grim adventures of Billy and Mandy was someone I felt like would be on the list. She was my spirit animal growing up because she was stuck in pink and stuff but definitely had alt kids vibes and I felt like that was me growing up.
I really liked "I Feel Sick", I was hoping there would be more issues, but sadly there was not. Also I like Conner's new hair style, it suits him well.
Gwen from Total Drama was one of the main reasons for why I wanted to learn more about the goth subculture and its music. It’s so weird that I owe my music and fashion sense to one fictional character.

I grew up watching Ruby Gloom and reading Emily the Strange. Another lesser known goth comic is Nemi, it's a Norwegian comic series, kind of strange but I enjoyed it

About Misa from Death Note, she truly got on my nerves, but she had one moment that was TRULY ADORABLE... It was that moment when Light & L were handcuffed together, and (if I remember correctly) they got into a fight & Misa broke up the fight & told them that since they were working on a common goal (finding "Kira" wink ;) wink ;) wink ;) ), that they should all be friends! While I've been interested into metal/goth music and general "dark" stuff since I was a kid, fashion wise I was quite plain with next to 0 interest in my look until I saw Death Note and is in great merit thanks to Misa that I started to try and experiment more with my fashion and I started to dress goth/alternative and now I'm at the point where if I pick any random clothing item in my closet there are good chances I could make a Misa inspired outfit with it but I do understand perfectly how aside from her clothes styles she is far form being a "real" goth so while I would have liked her at a higher place I'm fine with B
Raven is definitely the most "gothic" without necessarily being 80s "goth." Her dad is literally satan (ok, Trigon, but still, lol). She is into the dark macabre stuff (literature, films, poetry, art) and actively practices magic. She was once reading an old occult tome and brought a malevolent dragon back to life on accident and there was that one time she was going to bring about the end of the world against her will... everyone else pales in comparison, imo, lol. Although as far as actual "real life" goth representation... South Park definitely wins.
One of the South Park creators is probably the BIGGEST Cure fan (hence why Robert Smith beat Mecha-Streisand), which is why I think the South Park Goths are so realistic.
New sub! Love your content - I really loved hearing Lynn speak about the South Park goth thing and how gate keeping is an unfortunate part of alt subcultures we should try to let go of ❤️ also I recently found my Emily the strange comic book I thought I lost and was overjoyed ❤️ looking forward to binging your content 🖤🐈⬛🐀🖤👻
Danny Phantom was tight It wasn't actually until recently when she showed up in memes that I saw how gothy she was. So, either that's just not something that stuck with me at the time, or it wasn't a big part of her character. Go check out the show though. I haven't actually seen it since I was younger, but I feel like it holds up. The theme song definitely does . That was a tune 🎶
@@RandomGothCouple I'm actually considering going back and checking it all again some time. I don't know if I even saw every episode of it when it aired
I agree with this list, for the most part - but I do have to agree with Connor on the case of the Goth Kids, they are real accurate to some extent, behaviour & personality and all. (I've met & somehow befriended a few kids like them myself)
I'm from Canada so maybe it's a regional thing cause we're the same age but I knew all of the characters. I did really like ruby gloom but I was absolutely the emily the strange kid.
Ruby Gloom was actually made out of the college I attended, Sheridan College in Canada! Super cool to see you folks know who Ruby Gloom is and highly recommend you watch even 1 or 2 of the cartoons as they’re super short and grand. And you also know Mona the vampire!?!? I love you two but this video pulls me in further 🖤
Can’t wait to watch this when I get home. :) goth characters are so fun! My favs for sure are the goths from South Park and Raven from teen Titans. She’s pretty darkly. 🖤
Was way too old to get into total drama, but the compilations I've seen on the goths makes them the best. Also agree to the south park goths being spot on, I knew so many kids like that in high school lmao
Great hair Connor Also, I haven't watched this yet, and if my homies the goth kids from south park aren't high tier we'll have a problem *after watch edit: thanks😁
@@RandomGothCouple I like em so much. They symbolise not only my humour but also the most me kind of "mood" one could possibly create. I don't think they make all goths look like elitists necessarily, they're just kids who need something so meaningfull in their life to compensate their problems amd negative thoughts that they take it too seriously and want to look at it as some sort of state of perfection, and anything other than what goth is in their eyes feels like a personal attack to them. I relate to that a lot because I compensate by treating something I'm into like a way of life or part of my identity a *lot*. Maybe thats what elitists do as well. Some people just need that meaningfullnes in their lives.
Some of these characters are new to me, I grew up with Beetlejuice, JTHM, Death from Sandman,Hexgirls...all the 80s and 90s stuff.. It's nice seeing people accept Goth in the media,I'm kind of yes and no,conflicted; but, it gives kids now a positive look into an alternative lifestyle and positivity is good. I'm 40 and didn't give up my goth card yet 😆 Times have really changed,I really didn't think Goth was going to be a mainstream thing so it surprised me to see it more accepted.
I don't know if this Character is actually a Goth related Character, but how about Mandy, from Billy and Mandy. Mandy was so dark. Now, I get that most Goth (at least me) won't act that sinister. However, I fell in love with that Character Mandy. She was no joke!
As far as favorite Goth characters I would say, 1. Rogue from X-Men Evolution, 2. X-23 from the more recent X-Men comics, and 3. Gwen from Total Drama.
Jane is way more expressive than Daria who is truly monotonous jaja I think they’re grunge (also the time period) but dudees Jane’s brother, Trent had band posters all over his room;bauhaus, the sisters of mercy, Daria had some kafka one and her walls were covered in asylum cushions. It’s a lot of dry humor but I think Daria is alt. Dry humor gold (Just sharing my opinion not judging tier!)
Awh you guys are so cool! Uhm if you haven’t already done it A video idea is “reacting to old pictures of ourselves” cuz I find it so cool to see people who are alternative when they were younger. And I saw a scene girl do it and it was so funny/cute cuz all the classic photos like the upper angle and style. It’s just an idea if you haven’t already done it. I’m also surprised you guys don’t have more subscribers cuz your content is so good :)
Don't worry about the hair. My hair was super long and the humidity and the warmth made my scalp go ham and I had to cut it all off. It doesn't look bad, I just miss the long hair.
honestly, I think south park goths are most realistic goths but in a very exaggerating way. this is probably how yk others see us and during the start of getting into goth i was one edgy mf when I remember that I get the ick a little
I loved raven from teen titans but not from the shows but the DC comics as Rachel Roth. My dad was a comic need back in the day and passed down all of his comics to me as a child and I fell in love with teen titans especially raven. I cant deny she'd played a part in bringing me to the Darkseid of things, and now my little gothlings love her and beast boy in the comics as well.
The South Park Goths are all of us as baby bats, and we all used the phrase 'conformist sheeple' un-ironically at some point in that time.

We only found out about her in the last few years! Love the show but for some reason didn't grow up with it!
@@RandomGothCouple the oblongs wasnt well received by the networks it was on, got cancelled after a season, but susie had a couple anthology books with her in it so thats nice
While I've been interested into metal/goth music and general "dark" stuff since I was a kid, fashion wise I was quite plain with next to 0 interest in my look until I saw Death Note and is in great merit thanks to Misa that I started to try and experiment more with my fashion and I started to dress goth/alternative and now I'm at the point where if I pick any random clothing item in my closet there are good chances I could make a Misa inspired outfit with it
but I do understand perfectly how aside from her clothes styles she is far form being a "real" goth so while I would have liked her at a higher place I'm fine with B
Trey Parker and Matt Stone must’ve either drawn from personal experience or they knew goths like that.
Raven, Hex Girls and Gewn from TDI. Oh boy 👀 Plus that clip from Scary Movie made me laugh.
I think Connors hair style suits him and you guys are my biggest style inspirations🖤🖤🖤🖤
Thank you so much 🦇🖤🦇🖤🦇
One of the South Park creators is probably the BIGGEST Cure fan (hence why Robert Smith beat Mecha-Streisand), which is why I think the South Park Goths are so realistic.
5:25 i❤ gothic style and gothic stuff
Danny Phantom was tight
It wasn't actually until recently when she showed up in memes that I saw how gothy she was.
So, either that's just not something that stuck with me at the time, or it wasn't a big part of her character.
Go check out the show though.
I haven't actually seen it since I was younger, but I feel like it holds up. The theme song definitely does .
That was a tune 🎶
I had a look at some compilations and she was a complete mood and did deserve to be higher up on the list. And shes got nugoth vibes for sure!
That show was where I first heard the term "goth" as a kid haha
@@RandomGothCouple I'm actually considering going back and checking it all again some time. I don't know if I even saw every episode of it when it aired
Great video. Another one I liked was Lenore. Its mainly a comic but I think there were short cartoons based on those.
Thank you! Ah Lenore! That just unlocked a memory!
I wanted the Emily the strange guitar so badly 😅
Hii guys! I really love your vids 🖤 Lots of love from Greece :)
Thank you so much! 🦇
Also the South Park goth kids are so top tier everyone should be knocked a ranking down and the South Park goth kids be the only ones in a tier🙌
If your goth, Gwen doesn't compared to Creppy Girl.
I replayed that Officer Doofy clip way too many times.
“I said don’t disturb me when I’m cleaning my room!!”
I was the only goth person at my school. All my friends were emo, skaters and metal heads lolz.
The original Raven from the comics was one of the inspiration for the early goth subculture, along with Death from Sandman.
South Park Goth Kids should have been ‘S’ tier.
They were the most legit goth representation you’re gonna get.
I think Misa was Visual Kei.
And the South Park Goths was actually how my Goth Classmates dressed.
One Goth girl nobody seems to remember is Kylie from "Extreme Ghostbusters". She was the only female Ghostbuster on that team.
Back then they actually gave characters a personality and value and weren't just tokens.
Great hair Connor
Also, I haven't watched this yet, and if my homies the goth kids from south park aren't high tier we'll have a problem
*after watch edit: thanks😁
Thanks so much! South Park goths were robbed 🤬 haha
I actually like your haircut though, it's cool!🖤
Surprisingly, there are many interesting goth characters in cartoons.
Lucy Loud is S tier. She sleeps in a coffin. Mandy has that iconic misanthropy and her smile breaks the space-time continuum.
I'm 40 and didn't give up my goth card yet 😆
Times have really changed,I really didn't think Goth was going to be a mainstream thing so it surprised me to see it more accepted.
i would love to see you two do video game characters next !
Ohh that's a great idea! Thank you 🦇
Completely unrelated but Conor and I have basically the same haircut now 😅
I looove Ruby gloom, I used to watch it on TV while preparing to go school.... Totally goth influence for me😂
I don't know if this Character is actually a Goth related Character, but how about Mandy, from Billy and Mandy. Mandy was so dark. Now, I get that most Goth (at least me) won't act that sinister. However, I fell in love with that Character Mandy. She was no joke!
Yeah, but she still wears a pink dress instead of black.
Have you guys ever seen the grim adventures of Billy and Mandy if you haven't it's one of my favorite childhood cartoons
THis is a spot on list good stuff and cool video idea stay awesome random goth couple!
As far as favorite Goth characters I would say, 1. Rogue from X-Men Evolution, 2. X-23 from the more recent X-Men comics, and 3. Gwen from Total Drama.
I loved Rogue in X-Men Evolution!
Jane is way more expressive than Daria who is truly monotonous jaja
I think they’re grunge (also the time period)
but dudees
Jane’s brother, Trent had band posters all over his room;bauhaus, the sisters of mercy, Daria had some kafka one and her walls were covered in asylum cushions.
It’s a lot of dry humor but I think Daria is alt. Dry humor gold
(Just sharing my opinion not judging tier!)
personal preference is mysery over ruby but that pretty well tops my childhood
My memory of the series is pretty fuzzy at this point, but I do remember liking Ruby Gloom when I was a really little kid
Awh you guys are so cool!
Uhm if you haven’t already done it
A video idea is “reacting to old pictures of ourselves” cuz I find it so cool to see people who are alternative when they were younger.
And I saw a scene girl do it and it was so funny/cute cuz all the classic photos like the upper angle and style.
It’s just an idea if you haven’t already done it.
I’m also surprised you guys don’t have more subscribers cuz your content is so good :)
Lucy loud from the loud house has that dream bedroom for me lol it’s like a Victorian gothic vibe
Don't worry about the hair. My hair was super long and the humidity and the warmth made my scalp go ham and I had to cut it all off. It doesn't look bad, I just miss the long hair.
thoughts on Re-L Mayer from the anime ergo proxy?
South Park Goth Kids are definitely S tier. Posers or not, that was literally every goth in my high school.
I f***ing love your new hair cut it suits you, also I love your videos keep up the good work 🖤
100% agree with Conor, I thought Lydia needed to go down a tank also 😅
Lynn is so sweet and I love both of your looks and Conors new hair doo!. Love your channel. I've only just discovered it.
I like your new hair cut Conor!
honestly, I think south park goths are most realistic goths but in a very exaggerating way. this is probably how yk others see us and during the start of getting into goth i was one edgy mf when I remember that I get the ick a little
South park goths were the slightly toxic stereotypes, but realistic to have met them, but on a more important note Mona the Vampire
