The proper translation for 'oude' kaas is 'aged' or 'ripened', not 'old'. Old cheese is cheese that you bought 4 weeks ago and has been drying out in the refrigerator ever since.😏

The “berenklauw” is so much better with satésaus (sateh sauce)! And I agree on the picanto. I prefer the Mexicano any time! And when I can’t de ide, I like the mini snacks as well.
The berenhap/berenklauw definitely depends on the sauce. Try it with peanut sauce next time. That should be sort of the default question when you order it. Één berenklauw alstublieft. Met satesaus? Graag!
the berenklauw or sometimes berenhap really should be coated with pindasaus, and please try the picanto, sometimes called gehaktstaaf, with mayo, really good combination. Anyone is allowed to wake me up for a frikandel speciaal at any time of the day 😂
Kaas souffle, nasischijf and frikandel speciaal are my favorites but kroketten and broodje hamburger speciaal mét sla, ei, augurk, tomaat en komkommer are good too!
I will list some of the lesser know but in my opinion amazing snacks. - Viandel, its a frikandel but then dipped in some sort of breading/batter. - Sitostick, its turkey meat and onion on a skewer with batter around it. - Lucifer (dutch for matchstick and also the devil), it's a spicy kipcorn with a weird red batter on one end, the batter is okay but seems more like a gimmick. I just like the spicy chicken stuff. - Grizzly, its a berenklauw but then dipped in a spicy batter. I seem to like battered and spicy stuff :p - and last but not least Vlampijp. its a large vlammetje with breading on both ends and more shaped like a loempia. definitely a recommendation if you like vlammetjes. there are even way more lesser know snacks, like all the rolls (sate, shoarma, smul) and many more but the ones listed above seem to be the ones only dutch people actually know about and never get mentioned in these sort of videos, give em a try 👍
I think the kaas souffle you had is actually a kaas soufflese hence the different shape. It's a bit more cheesy then you average kaas souffle. And the amount of innuendos in your videos is just hilarious 😂😂
that Mexicano "meat" sounds like a McRib version of a "bullet" I had in Belgium - large meatball sausage item cut most of the way down into segments (like the English Christmas chocolate orange) then fried and the segments open up in a blooming onion fashion bite size for dipping
You have to try this: ragouzi, sitostick with sate sauce, Grizzly with chilli sauce, worstenbroodje with sate sauce, Smulrol mayo, Shoarmarol. Those are my favorites, hopefully they will be yours too!
Your right! I always eat the special snacks such as sitostick, smulrol and grizzly at a snackbar. I hope they will try them as well. I eat those without sauce. That 's for me the best.
My favorite is the Viandel. If you love frikandel, you will probably like this too! It is a frikandel but has an extra layer around it which makes it crispy
You guys could also try: Lihanboutje, Kikastick (or sitostick), broodje warmvlees with pindasaus, satekroket (prefferably on a white bun), hamkaassouffle. Thanks for your video's they are very fun to watch. 👌🏻
Missing the Nasi schijf, which is a disc with rice filling. The best Bamischijf is from a company called Elite. Mexicano is my favorite snack, followed by bami-/Nasi schijf, frikadel of kroket. Vlammetjes are also very nice, but those I do not buy at the snackbar.
Did you ever try the Mora ‘draadjesvlees’ vegetarian kroket? They are DIY ovenkroketten and YUMM!! My carnivore husband loves these more than the original meatfilled ones. 😍
DAMN YOU 🤣 Have a salad in the fridge, now I crave these 😂 Did you record this in one day? How did Bram Ladage react when you placed that order 😁 My favorite is the Mexicano with peanut sauce 🥰
In Belgium we have also very good snack bar food like Julientje (fries, satéspices, stoofvleessauce, mayonaise, dryed onions and slices viandel). My favorites are Lucifer, Loempidel and Ribster. But I like also Grizzly and Mammoet with Mammoetsauce
when my nut and milk allergy werent as bad my absolute favorite snack was the trio sate. Do need to say this is a ssnack you find in overijsel maybe drenthe or achterhoek but not in the west or extreme north for what i know. i know enough times i wanted to order it and the cafetaria owner never heard of it. cafetaria/patatboer zijn vervangende namen voor snackbar.
Oi, a 'Bereklauw' without peanutsauce? 😮 It supposed to be a meatball with onions btw. Best is to make one yourself. With the 'pindasaus'👍🏽🍻. Great videos and you both are so sweet and awesome. ❤
A berenklauw is just a boulet cut in slices with onions. A frikandel in Flemish is a curryworst and if you add ketchup, mayo and raw onion you get a curryworst special. If you like seafood you can also get a shrimp (garnaal)kroket.
Ghoulash kroket, although it's interesting to note they taste very differently between places. Sometimes they're more sweet than spicy and sometimes the filling is more of a pudding. Other times it's filled with a lot of "meaty" pieces.
Depends on what you put in the ragout. I made my own, by putting some leftover homemade goulash in the ragout, forming and breading them. I had 16 of them and 10 bitterballen. They lasted 3 days. Normally 2 is plenty for me, but these were to good.
We were in the Netherlands three months ago and we tried fries and snacks at several places. None of them tasted as well as I remembered and my wife disliked most of them. We went to Amsterdam and Utrecht and I am aware that there should be a Bram Ladage in Utrecht but we weren’t near that one.
manneken pis is pretty good in utrecht! tbh, fast food is fast food. it’s convenient but i rarely seriously crave any of this stuff other than fries. there’s always better food out there, it’s just more expensive or less convenient :) except fries. i would eat fries every day
Great video as always and the verbal and visual puns definitely deserve 5 stroopwafels! My favorite snacks by far are the kaassoufflé and the frikandel speciaal. I would not likely choose a snack because it is vegetarian, but that does not mean I would skip a nice bamischijf. I do think the right sauce can make a lot of difference. I would never order a berenklauw without peanut sauce for example. Or chicken nuggets without Smoked BBQ sauce. The sauce can really completerend a snack and push it closer towards those hard to earn 5 stroopwafels. I love bitterballen, they go very well with different sauces. Beers are mandatory though. The kroket does not do much for me, other than size matters. I mean, when I crave a broodje kroket (with mayonaise or mosterd), bitterballen won’t cut it. But when I really crave a vegetarian snack, I cut an avocado in half, remove the pit, don’t remove the skin add mozzarella, a slice of tomato and some salt and peper and pop it in the air fryer. And when they are done, I take a small spoon and scoop them out and enjoy… Looking forward to your next vid! Cheers, Rick
I was watching the video again and there's still one thing i wanted to say. 😁 In the South we call the Berenklauw a Gehaktbal Special, because it's a meatball sliced in four with the onion in between, so no patties and you get it with frietsauce and curry on top, so it automatically becomes a Special! 😉✌🏼
Bram Ladager is well known, I live in the Far East of the Netherlands (Enschede) and somehow I know that name from the Rotterdam area... Dude must have fried some good stuff in his days (I presume it's now run by his ancestors) I used to sometimes visit a football game in the Kuip and then eat some Bram snacks
If you like Bram Ladage's fries, you should definitely visit the pit stop in Rotterdam. which is located close to Lombardy station. Once you taste this you won't want anything else. good luck with your channel and hope to enjoy your vlogs for a long time 🙏🏿❤️
youtube rewards channels that have videos that do consistently well, and we wanted to have a place where we could post videos that we either don't think would do well on our main channel (either because of the topic or video editing decisions) so it's there if you want extra buncharted content, but if you don't, we'll still keep posting the same stuff you're used to on this channel every week :)
Fun fact, below the rivers, a lot of snackbars will make a frikandel speciaal with curry mayo, onions and peanut sauce. (and usually they'll have a sign that says that their "speciaal" has peanut sauce (satésaus/pindasaus) probably to warn those with an allergy to order it without the peanut sauce) I found a Bram Ladage near Bleiswijk last week. It's good eating, even there!
The Picanto is my favorite with peanut (sate) sauce. As for the kroketten. The lightest is usually veal, goulash is more reddish, and the beef is the more brownish color... That being said, you should really try a "sate kroket" Lastly, the "patties" of the bear claw was a cut up meatball.
A Pikanto used to be called a Gehaktstaaf, as a cilinder version of a Gehaktbal. The Gehaktbal is the meat they use for a Bereklauw...its just a deepfried and slightly spiced "meat"ball with onions. I did miss the Viandel, obviously the plain old Gehaktbal and the Sitostick. Viandel is chicken/beef mix with a crispy lumpia like outside and the Sitostick is a breaded chicken/turkey/onion shaslik. (You might have to head a bit further South to find them though) Oh and every single deepfried snack is good with mayo by the way, but a mild mustard is honestly a good second. My standard order here at Friture Pam Pam (kind of a local legend tbh) is a grote friet Zuurvlees, 2 Frikandellen and a Pikanto. :D
I agree, something magical happens with a frikandel with speciaal sauce on a bun. The whole is more than the sum of the parts. One of my favorite foods is bacon and tomato sandwich with a little mayonnaise, it has something similar going on. Better than a 20 euro steak as far as I am concerned.
i miss the currysaus in the bereklauw, we in Limburg call this gehaktbal speciaal, that's this food with curry saus....... (later on i read that they put pindasaus with the bereklauw, but it looks like gehaktbal speciaal. The only difference is the currysaus versus the pindasaus). ... Oh and another thing. We have also 2 other snacks which is pure Limburgs. The Frietei and friet zuurvlees. Don't know if you are familiar to that when you were in Limburg.
As mentioned before in the comments, the Berenklauw, or as we call them Berenhap, can not go without sateh-saus. Also good for you to know that not all specialsauce is with curry. In my region special is with ketchup in stead of curry. Next time, try if you can find a 'lihanboutje' (lee-hán bauwtje) somewhere. It is an old snackbar snack even I don't understand.
Not every snackbar has it, but I quite like a bun with gehaktbal uit de jus (meatball from the gravy) So a meatball not fried, but actually from a pan with gravy.
May I ask something a bit 'off topic'? You were talking about all the sauces there are in the Netherlands, but I am curious about something EVERYONE from the US rave about. What is ' A1 sauce ' and do you import(!) it from the States to eat with FEBO kind of food? Why is A1 so special?
A1 is steak sauce and it’s mostly just put on low quality steak. i can’t remember the last time i’ve had it personally. i think you can get it at five guys though (american burger chain with locations in the netherlands) as a burger sauce… it’s just sort of sweet and smoky
fun vid! kaas souflé.. any saus you like.. peanut, curryketchup, mayo.. oorlog.. all goes (and amen on (medium) hot chili sauce.. very valid option/personal fav, also on kip corns and mexicano (which gets oorlog often.. a lot of stuff does) picanto is spicier/fancier development on frikandellen, came mid nineties (my highschool era) mexicano came later, is actually something that flopped in the 80ies and they re-put on the market after some changes.. and is mystery meat with spices and nobody knows why it's actually called mexicano anymore.. (marketing when dutch soccer team was in world championship in mexico in the 80ies) and why the heck did I remember all this.. where was this hidden?
If you ever get the chance: Try the Vlampijp! The Vlampijp comes from the same manufacturer as the appreciated Vlammetjes. in fact it has the same ingredients too. It is like a very large Vlammetje. However, in balance there is a little more filling than wrapping(?) and the ends of the wrapping have a little breadcrumb dipping. This results in a snack a little less oily than the Vlammetje and imo a better, intenser taste. And it's BIG! The backdraw: It seems availability is very low. I never saw it outside a cafetaria and in the approx. 15 years it exists, i maybe saw it in three or four cafetaria's. That no one mentioned it before in the comments confirms for me it's pretty hard to find (unfortunately!)
Really love your video's! ❤ A bit off topic: I was just watching Lala Land on Netflix. Michelle, was that you playing the manager in the coffeeshop? Probably not, but did you see her, she really looks like you.
Oh... if you like broodje frikandel special, try a broodje Mexicano with data sauce (or mayo). Or do both and choose broodje Mexicano oorlog (mayo, sata and unions)
You really should go to a snackbar in Belgium sometime, they have even more snacks there, and lots more sauces to put on fries too. The only snack I eat regularly at home, and sometimes from a snackbar, is the frikadel. I don't like them when they are only from chicken meat, there has to be some other meat in there for the flavor. The original recipe was pork and horse, because that was really cheap meat when the snack was invented in the early fifties. Horse meat is really expensive today, it can cost up to 60 euros a kilogram (good beef is 25-30 euros per kg).
Favourite thing for me is: Mexicano (Mora Mexicano's they are called Carrero), Kaassouflé and a gehaktsstaaf (pikanto), I enjoy the gehaktstaaf (pikanto) more than a Frikandel, although BECKERS frikandellen are the GOAT (of the frikandellen you can get imo)
Good, whenever you read this, just a small comment about how you start your video's. you start always with "goede morgen", nothing wrong with that but I, and not I alone I think, watch your'e video's in the evening or at night. Maybe the opening can be "goede dag", that covers the whole day 🙃. Keep on going with you'e vlogs, I love them.
we say that because most of the time it’s the morning when we start filming, and when we’re visiting a city in a vlog, we want to make sure it’s clear when we’re kicking off the video it doesn’t make as much of a difference when we do videos at home trying food of course but i’m a sucker for consistency 😅
You take that back!! The McChicken is one of the best chicken sandwiches out there. At least we agree that the mexicano is an S tier snack. Also, protip: usually getting bitterballen is more cost-effective than getting a kroket, because you get more of the same for a proportionally lower price.
If you get the chance since not very establishment makes it. You should order a hawaii stick. Ist a picanto, cut up with pineapple in between on a stick. you should eat it with peanut sauce or sate saus as we call it. the berenklauw or sometimes berenhap really should be coated with pindasaus, and please try the picanto, sometimes called gehaktstaaf, with mayo, really good combination. Anyone is allowed to wake me up for a frikandel speciaal at any time of the day 😂
2:39 it IS a frikandel. Just a very small one. The round one.. I don't know what that is.
I seem to like battered and spicy stuff :p
- and last but not least Vlampijp. its a large vlammetje with breading on both ends and more shaped like a loempia. definitely a recommendation if you like vlammetjes.
there are even way more lesser know snacks, like all the rolls (sate, shoarma, smul) and many more but the ones listed above seem to be the ones only dutch people actually know about and never get mentioned in these sort of videos, give em a try 👍
I think the kaas souffle you had is actually a kaas soufflese hence the different shape. It's a bit more cheesy then you average kaas souffle.
And the amount of innuendos in your videos is just hilarious 😂😂
hey you’re right - it was the soufflese! whoops…
I love the berenklauw, a meatball with caramelized onion. But I eat it covered in Saté saus.
Try
Berenklauw met pinda saus.
Of
Kaassouffle met pinda saus.
Of
Mexico met hete pinda saus
Heerlijk.
that Mexicano "meat" sounds like a McRib version of a "bullet" I had in Belgium - large meatball sausage item cut most of the way down into segments (like the English Christmas chocolate orange) then fried and the segments open up in a blooming onion fashion bite size for dipping
17:15 everyday we're swaffeling uhhh shuffling 🎶😅
Kaassoufflee with appelmoes is my favorite snack! And for fries, frietje with satesaus and mayo
wow, dies nieuw met appelmoes, zal hem eens proberen :)
My favorite go-to at the snackbar is the Shoarmarol. With garlic sauce of course!🙂
I love the way you stuff things down Michelle's throat..🤣😂😉
You guys could also try: Lihanboutje, Kikastick (or sitostick), broodje warmvlees with pindasaus, satekroket (prefferably on a white bun), hamkaassouffle. Thanks for your video's they are very fun to watch. 👌🏻
Missing the Nasi schijf, which is a disc with rice filling. The best Bamischijf is from a company called Elite. Mexicano is my favorite snack, followed by bami-/Nasi schijf, frikadel of kroket. Vlammetjes are also very nice, but those I do not buy at the snackbar.
bere(n)klauw, meatball with onion slices, fried. To be eaten with peanut sauce, just like the mexicano.
Great one again guys. tnx
What you really should try is Broodje Taartaar met Uitjes en Curry, real yummi.
Did you ever try the Mora ‘draadjesvlees’ vegetarian kroket? They are DIY ovenkroketten and YUMM!! My carnivore husband loves these more than the original meatfilled ones. 😍
I never had a kaassouffle with sweet chili sauce, but that is such a great idea! How come I never thought of this myself. I have to try it
DAMN YOU 🤣 Have a salad in the fridge, now I crave these 😂 Did you record this in one day? How did Bram Ladage react when you placed that order 😁 My favorite is the Mexicano with peanut sauce 🥰
i’m sure they were confused 😂
especially when we ordered one of every sauce for our second channel 😂😂
Broodje frikandel speciaal is my go to snack. And a broodje saté (which is one I missed from your video) 😊
We went to Amsterdam and Utrecht and I am aware that there should be a Bram Ladage in Utrecht but we weren’t near that one.
manneken pis is pretty good in utrecht!
tbh, fast food is fast food. it’s convenient but i rarely seriously crave any of this stuff other than fries. there’s always better food out there, it’s just more expensive or less convenient :)
except fries. i would eat fries every day
Great video as always and the verbal and visual puns definitely deserve 5 stroopwafels!
And when they are done, I take a small spoon and scoop them out and enjoy…
Looking forward to your next vid! Cheers, Rick
I was watching the video again and there's still one thing i wanted to say. 😁
In the South we call the Berenklauw a Gehaktbal Special, because it's a meatball sliced in four with the onion in between, so no patties and you get it with frietsauce and curry on top, so it automatically becomes a Special! 😉✌🏼
Bram Ladager is well known, I live in the Far East of the Netherlands (Enschede) and somehow I know that name from the Rotterdam area... Dude must have fried some good stuff in his days (I presume it's now run by his ancestors)
I used to sometimes visit a football game in the Kuip and then eat some Bram snacks
Great video! Maybe you can also try a Shashlik or a Sitostick (formerly called Turkey stick) in the future.
If you like Bram Ladage's fries, you should definitely visit the pit stop in Rotterdam. which is located close to Lombardy station. Once you taste this you won't want anything else. good luck with your channel and hope to enjoy your vlogs for a long time 🙏🏿❤️
Dat is een gouwe ouwe inderdaad.
17:14 Nice swaffel
Indeed, 4½ stroopswaffels!
😂@@VanillaLibrarian
Omg....😅
Nice video again guys. If you really like Frikandellen, then I curious what you guys think of the Discodel. 😜
hahah i’d definitely try it
not sure i’d like it 😂
A Discodel....does it taste groovy?
@@GullibleTarget If your definition of Groovy, is a weird combination of sweet, fat and sour, then Yes 😜
LOL ! The Pikanto Bun Hub screen, so funny !
Loved this, as always. I have to ask though.. Why is there a second channel?
youtube rewards channels that have videos that do consistently well, and we wanted to have a place where we could post videos that we either don't think would do well on our main channel (either because of the topic or video editing decisions)
so it's there if you want extra buncharted content, but if you don't, we'll still keep posting the same stuff you're used to on this channel every week :)
Fun fact, below the rivers, a lot of snackbars will make a frikandel speciaal with curry mayo, onions and peanut sauce.
(and usually they'll have a sign that says that their "speciaal" has peanut sauce (satésaus/pindasaus) probably to warn those with an allergy to order it without the peanut sauce)
I found a Bram Ladage near Bleiswijk last week. It's good eating, even there!
will def have to try this sometime
Sweet Chili on a kaas souffle? say what? Bami Schijven are almost like a meal. Ps love the innuendos haha
jaman. sweet chili op een kaassoufle is goud. zeker met goede kwaliteit kaas
@@theflyingdutchguy9870 Amen!
The Picanto is my favorite with peanut (sate) sauce.
As for the kroketten. The lightest is usually veal, goulash is more reddish, and the beef is the more brownish color... That being said, you should really try a "sate kroket"
Lastly, the "patties" of the bear claw was a cut up meatball.
(You might have to head a bit further South to find them though)
Oh and every single deepfried snack is good with mayo by the way, but a mild mustard is honestly a good second.
My standard order here at Friture Pam Pam (kind of a local legend tbh) is a grote friet Zuurvlees, 2 Frikandellen and a Pikanto. :D
The goulashkroket is the best without any sauce. A picanto is really nice with saté sauce.
Spicy bamischijf and Mexicano are my favorites at the moment, but it wil change in time and then it’s something else.
i miss the currysaus in the bereklauw, we in Limburg call this gehaktbal speciaal, that's this food with curry saus.......
My favourites are patatje oorlog (of course with unions and good pindasaus) and frikandel speciaal with curry :-) .
How can you forget satekroket?😮😮
Berehap or bereklauw supposed to be with pindasaus (berehap pinda) did you guys also tried patatje or frietje stoof?
Would love to see an eierbal sometime! (basically a kind of Scotch egg, popular especially in Groningen)
it’s in our groningen vlog :)
Not every snackbar has it, but I quite like a bun with gehaktbal uit de jus (meatball from the gravy)
So a meatball not fried, but actually from a pan with gravy.
A1 is steak sauce and it’s mostly just put on low quality steak. i can’t remember the last time i’ve had it personally. i think you can get it at five guys though (american burger chain with locations in the netherlands) as a burger sauce…
it’s just sort of sweet and smoky
Hey! It's called a bami-schijf, schijf meaning disc. There's also a bami-blok, which is block shaped. They're usually less spicy.
fun vid! kaas souflé.. any saus you like.. peanut, curryketchup, mayo.. oorlog.. all goes (and amen on (medium) hot chili sauce.. very valid option/personal fav, also on kip corns and mexicano (which gets oorlog often.. a lot of stuff does) picanto is spicier/fancier development on frikandellen, came mid nineties (my highschool era) mexicano came later, is actually something that flopped in the 80ies and they re-put on the market after some changes.. and is mystery meat with spices and nobody knows why it's actually called mexicano anymore..
You forget the turkeystick 😮 (and please try droge worst From Drenthe of Groningen, especially from Assen :p)
My favorite is shrimp qroqeutte, hard to find a place that sell those...
Really love your video's! ❤
A bit off topic: I was just watching Lala Land on Netflix.
Goedemiddag it's after 17:00?? Or when I watch it's 18:00 so good evening
goedenavond :)
I hope that you will also make a video about the Chinese takeaway. I am curious what you think of the babipangang and the rest of our Chinese cuisine.
Mexicano are called carrero in the supermarket by mora😉
In Limburg the Berenklauw is called Spoetnik and you eat it covered with currysauce!👌
In groningen is het berehap en soms ook met ananas ertussen samen met ui en dan met satésaus.
Als het maar lekker is!🙃@@GaneshaHippietrip
You guys need to come the Emmen and need to taste the eierbal. Of come eat at de krokkettenkunst there is so much to eat here in Emmen!
You should go to Nijmegen and try the 'Discodel' and 'Broodje spé' 😊
You missed: Gehaktbal uit de jus or gefrituurde gehaktbal, viandel, grizzly and raspatat. Please try raspatat at a snackbar where they make it fresh
Good, whenever you read this, just a small comment about how you start your video's.
you start always with "goede morgen", nothing wrong with that but I, and not I alone I think, watch your'e video's in the evening or at night.
Maybe the opening can be "goede dag", that covers the whole day 🙃.
Keep on going with you'e vlogs, I love them.
we say that because most of the time it’s the morning when we start filming, and when we’re visiting a city in a vlog, we want to make sure it’s clear when we’re kicking off the video
it doesn’t make as much of a difference when we do videos at home trying food of course but i’m a sucker for consistency 😅
Also, the berenhap needs peanut sauce, also there is a battered berenhap which is slightly spicier. Over here, what you call bereklauw is a Spoetnik and it's eaten with curry sauce
oh wow the hawaii stick sounds AMAZING
