Major Buang Ly's Daring Escape (April 29, 1975)
During the fall of Saigon, Major Buang Ly fled with his family in a Cessna O-1 Bird Dog toward the USS Midway. Unable to communicate, he dropped a note requesting to land. To make space, the crew pushed helicopters into the sea.
Buang successfully landed, making history as the first fixed-wing pilot to land on the USS Midway, in one of the war’s most daring rescues.
