It doesn't look like it, but he has a cannon arm, and he contorts his body and throws the ball from weird angles and positions. And somehow the ball ends up exactly where it should be. Plus, he can scramble and get out of trouble and convert 3rd downs when he has to. When you combine what he can do with the plays Andy Reid installs, there is no defense for it. KC only had the ball for 24 minutes, but still managed to score 38 points and win the game.
The 1st half was a slug match and the Eagles dominated. The 2nd half was a chess match, and the Chiefs dominated. Probably the scoop & score was critical: without that the Eagles go into half time with at least a 27 to 7 lead (assuming field goal, or 31 to 7 lead assuming a TD). Reid to his credit kept most of his sorcery for the 2nd half, when it was too late to use the 30 minute half time to make adjustments & recalibrations. As a person who likes cerebral football and sound execution, I just loved that 2nd half - especially the execution of the picket they set up on the punt return - I don't think I've ever seen a better execution of the picket, it was just awesome.

They gave their tackles a lot of help in that game. But they stranded them 1-on-1 a number of times and they held up. Didn't expect that. I think Mahomes' ankle injury gave them more juice. I also think it made them more confident of where he was, and they could block inside-out when they got stranded in 1-on-1. Some of their struggles during the season could arguably be blamed on Mahomes's tendency to flush. That's a negative feedback loop they really damped down, with the quick passing game coming into its own this year. Mahomes hasn't lost his courage to push the ball down the field, but he's checking down and throwing smokers to the perimeter and quick slants that were getting them 4 or 5 yards. It's hard to be that patient with the pass. It's even harder when you factor in incompletions. Mahomes threw only one incompletion in that 2nd half, which up-ends the calculations. I'm just kind of surprised that PHI D was that exploitable by Reid's and Bienemy's game plan.

One of the reasons I love football is the level of detail and strategy that goes into a game and you aren't going to pick the strategy up without serious film study like this. Coaching matters in football more than any other sport I watch but you still have to have the athletes to execute the plays. I don't know who did it but there was a great breakdown on Pats Rams Super Bowl and how Bill just wrecked the Rams with a unique defensive scheme that Rams could not figure out how to attack.
I think there are two hallmarks of truly great coaches: 1) the ability to infer opponents' playbooks and take advantage of their perceived weaknesses, and 2) the wherewithal to tailor their own playbook to better adjust to the capabilities of their players. Having a quarterback and tight end who are both well on their way to being arguably the greatest at their respective positions doesn't hurt.
Great point. I'm on a kick of watching NFL strategy vids, and these are super informative that the regular fan would never catch just watching the game. In fact, the broadcast doesn't even show all the players like the all-22 angle, so it's impossible for the everyday fan to gain this level of analysis, unlike something like basketball, where every fan, media member, and their mother has access to the entire play every game. And great reference - I just watched that Belichick Super Bowl vid a couple days ago - using that 6x1 front that caught on, and then everyone started using it against the Rams. Great stuff.

Born in KC in 68, one year before the chiefs first Super Bowl. A lot of great players on terrible teams until Marty and Joe Montana. Chiefs found a way to get THE coach and THE QB to finally get across the super bowl finish line! Now they make it look easy.
Though I am a Ravens fan, I deeply admire Mahomes, Reid and the Chiefs. The offensive display they put forth in the Super Bowl is exactly the kind of innovative, dynamic football I wish Lamar and Harbaugh could pull off.
Chiefs fan here, I thought the Ravens were going to actually beat the Bengals in that playoff game even with their backup QB. It just goes to show that they are only a QB away. And I’m not sure what was going on with Andrews last year but the season before he was fire.
Unfortunately it looks like Harbaugh has been slipping a little bit these last couple years, at least in terms of his ability to read opponents and respond to in-game situations. If they keep Jackson (and Tucker) around long-term, I can see them being competitive with or without Harbaugh, but it's tough sledding in the AFC with the Bills, Bengals, Dolphins, Chiefs, and Jaguars all looking to maintain their lofty trajectories for at least another five years.
The O-line was indeed important. Look how poor it was against the Bucs two years back, and how the Chiefs upgraded it immediately. Against an historically dominant Eagles pass rush, the Chiefs line was magnificent, and it was because of the lessons learned from their last Super Bowl.
It takes an elite quarterback to make those throws as well. That pass to kelce for a touchdown was thrown way before he got there and was in put the perfect spot only Travis could catch it.

I've been a die hard Chiefs fan since I was 10, I'm 52 years old. I realized, as we were headed to our 3rd Superbowl, that, since Patrick Mahomes became our starting QB, the Chiefs have only had to play 3 postseason games on the road, 3 Superbowl games. That's just nuts!

Almost 40 points in only 24 minutes of possession time? Lol
There's a lot of hall of famers on that championship team. Andy Ried is one of the most deserving. I remember before this year there was still some question about if he had earned it. Now there is no doubt he is going to be immortalized in Canton.
It's so amazing to watch Coach Reid probing a defense and seeing the result. Fans can get frustrated in watching a play that might not go anywhere, but coach is getting info that will pay off big time later in the contest. In my estimation, he may be the greatest tactician the sport has ever seen. He also is very open to adapt to the changes in league rules, and players personalities. Canton certainly awaits, it's too bad most of the trophies are already named. Perhaps the NFL coach of the year award will someday be named the Reid trophy?
The Skyy Moore TD, Moore was on the wrong side of the formation and Reid tried to call time out to get it corrected but they didn’t give it to him. Mahomes calls motion to his right then sees Moore isn’t there, then basically says “fuck it, just do it on the left” and it worked out
That Toney TD, Eagles were so gashed by Pacheco, they lost Kelce at the goal line...that D was tired and demoralized. Funny how much envy the Eagles have had, since, too.

Great videos, but the play at 6:00 in your video had another play right before it that got flagged. Take a look at that play. They passed a screen to toney and then it got called back. Then they did the same exact play, Philly DBs both bit on the screen, then they passed to juju.

There was always an unsettling feeling that Gannon would be a liability when it counted most, and this proved itself to be true in the Superbowl and left a sour taste in the most hyped Eagles season in memory. Glad he's gone, and hope the Eagles learn to find someone better.
Sports has essentially become a game of chess between not coaches and players…but algorithm writers that plug data into the formula and are told what play to call; what pitch mix to throw to a specific batter, what offensive scheme to execute in basketball…it’s just living athletic machines running the programs they are told to by computers.
Its even crazier to see how the Chief's offense has evolved without having Tyreek to set up these type of plays. Now they have speedsters like MVS and Hardman but they aren't the route runners Tyreek is.
Andy Reid is really out here playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. There’s a reason he waited until second half to do this bc he know if he did it first half they would juss go back to the board during the long halftime and adjust. Doing it in the second half made it hard for the eagles to adjust what they been doing all year which is either bumping down when a wr motion or having the db follow the wr across the line. It’s hard to adjust what you been doing all year on the sideline talking it up with your defensive coordinator and Andy Reid knew that 😈😈
KC had three rookies in their secondary And the eagle receivers couldn't out play them, Poor coaching by the eagles staff. You have to win that match up.
Actually 4 rookies played in the secondary, Williams CB, Watson CB, McDuffie CB, & Cook S...Rookie LB Chenal only had 18-19 snaps but 6 tackles & a sack...Karlaftis had 2 tackles😉👍
Eagles scored 35 pts and never had a short field. Chiefs did good shutting down the RB's but were otherwise shredded pretty much the same way the Eagles D was.

The best Defense for the Eagles was keeping Patrick off the field. 1st half the Chiefs only played 6 minutes of offense & only scored once 😳 The 2nd half, they scored every time they had the ball🪓😉 It was a tale of 2 halves..Eagles won the 1st half...Chiefs won the 2nd one & the Game, as they did with opponents all year. 🤷♂️

Eagles only had 3 possessions in the 2nd half. One stop was all the Chiefs needed and they got it. Why the Eagles didn't call 2 Hurts sneaks on 3rd and 2 I don't know, it was an unstoppable play. Chiefs only had 4 possessions in the 2nd half but all 4 were TD's. The 4th would have been a TD if they wanted it. 2 hidden plays in the game that were critical was the false start prior to the Hurts fumble and the Watkins drop of a perfect pass from Hurts that may have cost the Eagles 4 pts on their first drive of the 3rd qtr. Only getting a FG on that 17 play drive gave KC the opening they needed.

Jalen was more productive & showcased his amazing talents, but Patrick, although hobbled a bit, was very efficient. No matter how great coaches are, or how talented a team is, a lot depends of breaks, mistakes by the other team, & exploiting those mistakes. The best Defense in this game was played by Eagles Offense, but once Spags figured out how to slow that down, Chiefs Offense were able to go to work. It is maddening, but Chiefs often play from behind, which drives fans crazy, but helps in games like this!
One thing to note is that KT actually was supposed to get the ball on the Skyy Moore TD. Kelce lined up in the wrong spot and KT motions to Pat to go Skyy's way instead.
Holding like a mofo. The NFL will call holds in the regular season but by the past season they hardly call something unless it is super egregious. Look at the first play he shows from the niners. Bosa beats the left tackle inside and he lt grabs him from the side. You can grab inside but not outside and especially not around the neck area. Should have been an easy call...
Reid really did, he found a way to move the ball and score; he found a way to slow down the Eagles offense. It of course helps a ton having Mahomes as your engine! Overall this was a great Superbowl with both teams/players really performing. Hurts looked great, he's right up there with Allen and Burrows IMO (I won't go into the pros and cons of each QB, but Hurts' true dual threat and smart play/reading Ds/decision making, determination with a good arm... Eagles and Hurts will be back, the fumble was very unlike him, and IMO the D was where the Eagles let it slip away, you should win if you score 35 with just 1 TO)
Old guy here. Yes, you really should win with only 1 TO. The problem is that the other team had ZERO turnovers, and on top of that ZERO sacks allowed. The Chiefs played just about as close to a perfect game as possible.
As a 9ers fan, you hope that Kyle Shanahan will get his act together one day soon. The window is closing on him because the great team he has now, won't be around in the next 2-3 years. The defense has kept them in games, but he makes bonehead calls and gives the game away in the 4th quarter. Always. I can see how the top offensive players like Samuels, Kittle, and Aiyuk will just leave because they can get a SB ring with another team.

Kelce's TD looked a lot like the route that beat Milano in OT in the AFC Divisional Game last year.

I've been a die hard Chiefs fan since I was 10, I'm 52 years old. I realized, as we were headed to our 3rd Superbowl, that, since Patrick Mahomes became our starting QB, the Chiefs have only had to play 3 postseason games on the road, 3 Superbowl games. That's just nuts!

Yeah your point while true is not relevant. The Chiefs played a cleaner game (fewer penalties, Jalen fumble, big drop by Eagles Watkins, and also poor preparation for field conditions)

@@cpt_vi3w547 Yea no, Chiefs had the gnarliest schedule. People thought this Eagles defense was “so elite” but they got GOT just like every other defense the chiefs faced. Had Butker not missed the field goal, Bolton hadn’t gotten robbed of his second defensive touchdown, and that 1st call for Dallas G this game would have been nearly 20 points different. Almost 40 points in only 24 minutes of possession time? Lol

It's so amazing to watch Coach Reid probing a defense and seeing the result. Fans can get frustrated in watching a play that might not go anywhere, but coach is getting info that will pay off big time later in the contest. In my estimation, he may be the greatest tactician the sport has ever seen. He also is very open to adapt to the changes in league rules, and players personalities. Canton certainly awaits, it's too bad most of the trophies are already named. Perhaps the NFL coach of the year award will someday be named the Reid trophy?

The Skyy Moore TD, Moore was on the wrong side of the formation and Reid tried to call time out to get it corrected but they didn’t give it to him. Mahomes calls motion to his right then sees Moore isn’t there, then basically says “fuck it, just do it on the left” and it worked out

Great videos, but the play at 6:00 in your video had another play right before it that got flagged. Take a look at that play. They passed a screen to toney and then it got called back. Then they did the same exact play, Philly DBs both bit on the screen, then they passed to juju.

They had the potential to put up 34 points. A missed field goal is also present.

Yes they’re downloading the other team’s info the first 2-3 quarters then they adjust and turn it against them. Reid & Mahomes are menaces with that.

There was always an unsettling feeling that Gannon would be a liability when it counted most, and this proved itself to be true in the Superbowl and left a sour taste in the most hyped Eagles season in memory. Glad he's gone, and hope the Eagles learn to find someone better.
Sports has essentially become a game of chess between not coaches and players…but algorithm writers that plug data into the formula and are told what play to call; what pitch mix to throw to a specific batter, what offensive scheme to execute in basketball…it’s just living athletic machines running the programs they are told to by computers.

Andy Reid is really out here playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers. There’s a reason he waited until second half to do this bc he know if he did it first half they would juss go back to the board during the long halftime and adjust. Doing it in the second half made it hard for the eagles to adjust what they been doing all year which is either bumping down when a wr motion or having the db follow the wr across the line. It’s hard to adjust what you been doing all year on the sideline talking it up with your defensive coordinator and Andy Reid knew that 😈😈

KC had three rookies in their secondary And the eagle receivers couldn't out play them, Poor coaching by the eagles staff. You have to win that match up.
Actually 4 rookies played in the secondary, Williams CB, Watson CB, McDuffie CB, & Cook S...Rookie LB Chenal only had 18-19 snaps but 6 tackles & a sack...Karlaftis had 2 tackles😉👍
Eagles scored 35 pts and never had a short field. Chiefs did good shutting down the RB's but were otherwise shredded pretty much the same way the Eagles D was.

The best Defense for the Eagles was keeping Patrick off the field. 1st half the Chiefs only played 6 minutes of offense & only scored once 😳

It was a tale of 2 halves..Eagles won the 1st half...Chiefs won the 2nd one & the Game, as they did with opponents all year. 🤷♂️
@@sandman9390 Eagles still moved the ball in the 2nd half, the adjustment was Reid knew the Eagles were playing keep away and decided 2 can play that game. Eagles only had 3 possessions in the 2nd half. One stop was all the Chiefs needed and they got it. Why the Eagles didn't call 2 Hurts sneaks on 3rd and 2 I don't know, it was an unstoppable play. Chiefs only had 4 possessions in the 2nd half but all 4 were TD's. The 4th would have been a TD if they wanted it. 2 hidden plays in the game that were critical was the false start prior to the Hurts fumble and the Watkins drop of a perfect pass from Hurts that may have cost the Eagles 4 pts on their first drive of the 3rd qtr. Only getting a FG on that 17 play drive gave KC the opening they needed.

No matter how great coaches are, or how talented a team is, a lot depends of breaks, mistakes by the other team, & exploiting those mistakes. The best Defense in this game was played by Eagles Offense, but once Spags figured out how to slow that down, Chiefs Offense were able to go to work. It is maddening, but Chiefs often play from behind, which drives fans crazy, but helps in games like this!
One thing to note is that KT actually was supposed to get the ball on the Skyy Moore TD. Kelce lined up in the wrong spot and KT motions to Pat to go Skyy's way instead.

Bosa beats the left tackle inside and he lt grabs him from the side. You can grab inside but not outside and especially not around the neck area. Should have been an easy call...

Reid really did, he found a way to move the ball and score; he found a way to slow down the Eagles offense. It of course helps a ton having Mahomes as your engine! Overall this was a great Superbowl with both teams/players really performing. Hurts looked great, he's right up there with Allen and Burrows IMO (I won't go into the pros and cons of each QB, but Hurts' true dual threat and smart play/reading Ds/decision making, determination with a good arm... Eagles and Hurts will be back, the fumble was very unlike him, and IMO the D was where the Eagles let it slip away, you should win if you score 35 with just 1 TO)
Old guy here. Yes, you really should win with only 1 TO. The problem is that the other team had ZERO turnovers, and on top of that ZERO sacks allowed. The Chiefs played just about as close to a perfect game as possible.

As a 9ers fan, you hope that Kyle Shanahan will get his act together one day soon. The window is closing on him because the great team he has now, won't be around in the next 2-3 years. The defense has kept them in games, but he makes bonehead calls and gives the game away in the 4th quarter. Always. I can see how the top offensive players like Samuels, Kittle, and Aiyuk will just leave because they can get a SB ring with another team.
