Meet Meat Loaf who actually doesn't eat meatloaf! :D
THE SONG - "Bat Out of Hell" is a song performed by American rock singer and actor Meat Loaf on his 1977 album of the same name. It was written by pianist Jim Steinman. Recording started in late 1975 at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, New York with Todd Rundgren producing. The album 'Bat Out of Hell' was released on Oct 21, 1977. "Bat Out of Hell", the song, was not released as a single in the US. It became known through radio play. On the album, the song is 9:56. It was edited down to 6:40 and released in the UK as a single in 1979 and re-released in 1993 in the UK cut down to 4:50.
"Bat Out of Hell" as a single, reached #15 in the UK in Feb 1979. The 1993 re-release reached #8 in the UK. In the US, the album peaked at #14 on the Billboard 200 on Sep 16, 1978. The album reached #9 in the UK, #5 in Canada, and hit #1 in Australia and New Zealand.
Steinman originally started writing the song in 1968 about Peter Pan for a futuristic rock musical "Neverland" that he started developing in 1975. That may not be immediately obvious. According to SongFacts, "he wrote this to be the ultimate "Motorcycle crash song." The lyrics refer to a rider being thrown off his bike in a wreck and his organs exposed." The expression "bat out of hell" implies going very fast.
'Bat Out of Hell' became one of the best selling albums of all time at 30 to 43 million copies depending on your source. Its eventual success was not obvious at the start. Meat Loaf was an unknown artist and the album was very unusual. In an interview with SongFacts, bassist Kasim Sulton said, "that while recording it, he thought the album was "the biggest joke that I've ever been involved in." He learned that it was not a joke when he heard the song on the influential New York City radio station WNEW-FM. "I hear this track, and I said to myself, 'That sounds vaguely familiar. Where have I heard that song before?'" Sutton said. "Then it hit me: 'I played on that!' It was 'Bat Out of Hell,' that track. And then after hearing it on WNEW, the record exploded."
The BBC stated in an article - "His first album, the now legendary "Bat Out of Hell", was initially rejected by scores of record companies, yet went on to spend a staggering 485 weeks in the UK charts. The whole album is a masterwork of storytelling that Meat Loaf and Steinman worked on for four years and then battled to get heard."
Comparisons are often drawn to Bruce Springsteen whose drummer, the well-known Max Weinberg, played on "Bat". In Feb 2009, Todd Rundgren told 'Mojo' magazine, "Jim Steinman still denies that record has anything to do with Springsteen. But I saw it as a spoof. You take all the trademarks - over long songs, teenage angst, handsome loner- and turn them upside down. So we made these epic songs, full of the silly puns that Steinman loves. If Bruce Springsteen can take it over the top, Meat Loaf can take it five storeys higher than that - and at the same time, he's this big, sweaty, unappealing character. Yet we out-Springsteened Springsteen. He's never had a record that sold like Bat Out of Hell, and I didn't think that anyone would ever catch on to it. I thought it would be just a cult thing. The royalties from that album enabled me to follow my own path for a long time after that."
FUN FACTS - Meat Loaf was born Marvin Lee Aday. He legally changed his first name to Michael in 1984. The origin of his nickname is uncertain as he's given different explanations. Many believe it was given to him by his high school football coach - he weighed over 200 pounds when he was in the 7th grade. Despite the name, Meat Loaf has been a vegetarian since the 80s for health reasons. He claims to have a vocal range spanning three and a half octaves.
Max Weinberg is a superb drummer. Sina just spent nearly 10 minutes emulating him. She looks relieved that she finished (and probably also her neighbors) but I think she did a great job. What do you guys think?
THE ICON - Niki has set up the Christmas tree at the clinic. There will be more changes!

RIP Michael Lee Aday (Meatloaf). From your playing of Eddie in '75 film Rocky Horror Picture Show, to your first iconic song Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad your talent was as unique as your name change. Bat Out Of Hell was both a classic song and album name. You will be missed but your music will live on forever!

When I stumbled across Sina doing the drum cover on so many classics I was hooked. Then after doing a little bit of research on her, I can only imagine how proud her parents are of her accomplishments, I know us a father I would just stand back and say “ yep, that’s my daughter, pretty fancy don’t ya think?”. Nowadays when I’m working outside, to heck with Spotify always key up Sina on UA-cam. Very well done young lady and very well done and good job to her parents.

I totally agree with you. Sina does not miss a beat (no pun intended). I am in my early sixties now. I was a teen in the 70's, growing up with some of the best rock ever made. I enjoy watching Sina that much more when she does the 70's. Like you, I hear every beat and I will swear she hits every one of them. She is an amazing drummer but does quite well on many other instruments. She should have a bright future ahead.

Never thought you were grumpy! Just the look of "gett'n down" as we used to say. zoned out, in the music. that's one reason i love to watch you. You don't do videos of someone playing too music, your videos are of you playing music. And too those who read this, I highly recommend you get Sina's first two CDs , that's about all I listen too. And i'm impatiently waiting for the next one. sorry you were ill every body I know has had the bug.

    You absolutely nailed that, Sina!
A brilliant performance, and if I hadn't known you'd been under the weather, There's no way I'd have heard it through your playing.

@@nancyslider645 Yeah, this marathon track is still on my playlist, too - along with many other Sina epic covers and originals.
I keep pruning my playlist (it gets silly when your playlist grows faster than you can listen to it), but most of Sina's work makes the cut every time.

This album came out when I was 13 and just discovering how fun girls could be, if you know what I mean. Thank you for helping me feel like a teenager again if only for a few minutes. Sina, you're awesome!!!
