Was the man William Holden? The kid should have been awarded his great acting. Beautiful movie. It’s a hard lesson of survival. You can’t find that from a book.

I have always loved this film. My children loved it . I've also read the book. A dying man, just trying to get to his home in the wilderness, suddenly saddled with a helpless child. He believes that he doesn't have enough time left to care for, or teach the boy how to survive, and repudiates him, but the boy is tenacious. What are the odds??? Great storey, stick with it, you WILL be rewarded!!!😮

Sean Daley and Patrick Foley, two Irish traveling mates. Sean Daley suffers from complex PTSD as a result of the crash of the van that killed his parents. Patrick Foley suffers from a terminal illness for which he takes morphine medication to stop the pain. Together, they struggle to survive the harsh outback terrain on their trek to find help, and before he dies, Patrick teaches Sean self-reliance. Take-away messages: "Nobody is going to save you. You have to save yourself." ... "Don't be ashamed of loving. Show it. Show it."

I saw the trailer for this when I was 4 or 5years old and it haunted my memory ever since. I always wondered what it was and if it were perhaps something I dreamt up. So neat to see it exist all these years later.

I wish you could have shown the entire ending ....... There's about an extra 5 Min. ... Please rent the entire movie if you ever get a chance..... That extra 5 minutes makes all the difference.

I saw this movie a few times,, just superb,
What a nasty man! He could have been a father to the boy and instead treated him atrociously.
And the boy, despite everything he did to him, loved him. That's Christian charity.
That nasty man was more of a father figure than his jackass real father... tough love is sometimes the best ... especially when u dont have the time...

I had to watch this movie in parts. It was too heart wrenching. Will not recommend this movie but again I must conclude that the boy's acting was very excellent
I’ve been watching this movie since a child, and it helped shape my ability to be independent. It is heart wrenching. It is also relatable for a person that has also had a very hard life. I will always recommend this movie because people’s comfort is not as important as the learning that we gain from Human stories. Just imagine: what if you ended up in a situation like that boy was it in and if you had not paid attention to movies like this, you might not have a clue how to get out of your situation, because you might be overwhelmed instead of taking the lessons of a coming of age story to heart.

Guess the boy made it he is now 54 years old.
The boy needed to leave because he would have developed in a paradigm that would have beeb at odds with the larger group and that would have left him at odds with it.
Looks like the producer blew their wad on renting out the whole petting zoo. Wish they had spent more on a plot and story line though. Low budget Disney knockoff.

you missed the whole point of the movie. A point was made as in real life as the choice is up to the individual to live or die the choice is yours alone.

Typical early Aussie film, no plot, hopeless acting and direction. Aussie accent played to death and every animal for a thousand miles rounded up and stuck in the scenes!
