  • Comparing the Kenai chest holster (Starting at $159 from gunfightersinc...)
    to
    Hosking chest holster (Starting at $95 from store22476567....)
    Comparing the kydex thickness, the straps, buckles, the design, etc.
    The kenai is for the S&W 460 PC snub nose.
    The hosking is for the Ruger American Pistol in 45 acp
    Very similar holsters, but a few differences.
    I hope this is helpful for someone looking for a chest holster. It is a great way to carry if you are out in the wilderness and want quick access to a pistol while wearing a heavy coat or coveralls.
    Thanks for the support, please leave any questions in the comments.

    Although you bring up a good point about the attachment buckles being a possible point of failure, I like the idea that on the Kenai you can detach this shell and switch out for a different holster.

    I have moved onto my family farm and have the opportunity to do lots of woods walking for hunting and maintenance purposes. In the Southeastern United States, I don’t expect I will encounter any brown bear or grizzly, however, with the pervasive logging of so much nearby timber, black bear are becoming more common than they ever were during my childhood summer vacations (many decades ago).
    Consequently, I bought a Gen5 Glock 20 and a Kenai chest rig. The Kenai is so much more comfortable and accessible than side-carry and I find it to be a quality product.
    Because of its price, I debated a while before committing to its purchase. I’ve had cheaper kydex iwb holsters fail, so I was very concerned about the durability of the premium Kenai product. However, upon reading the labeling on the pouch in which the Kenai chest holster was shipped, I was thrilled to learn that the Kenai chest rig has a Lifetime warranty. Oh Happy Day! When I am ready to spend another chunk of money on a chest rig, I anticipate buying one for my .38 Special snub nose (Buffalo Bore Hard Cast for the woods).
    One additional very pleasant surprise is that my Kenai holster that I bought for my 10mm Glock fits my 9mm Glock G19X and is color-coordinated to the G19X. Yay! (The 10mm G20 is black.)
    Thank you for the nice comparison video.
    Blessings 😊

    The first kydex Chestholster i bought six years ago was from Kenai.
    Then a year later i ordered more kydex Chest holsters but from Hosking Holsters (a total of 4 different).
    I have been wearing them a lot over the years & never had either Kenai or Hoskings break or fail.
    My experience is that the straps need to be secured for the fit to be constant & i do that with Gorilla duct tape. If the fit needs to be adjusted due to different layers of clothing....then remove the tape...adjust & apply new tape.
    Hosking holsters owner Matt have always been very easy to to deal with.

    I went with the Kenai chest holster with Glock 20 and Ruger Red Hawk in Alaska. One harness and 2 holsters quick detachable swap.

    I carry an N frame in the Kenai and some padding on the back side would be nice for extended use as it tends to dig into your sternum after a while.

      Carrying either all day will cause that. I carry with these for roughly 4 hours at a time with a coat on usually. In that case it's not a problem. I agree with you- if carrying all day in just a shirt, definitely needs some kind of padding.

    Thank you for this. I have been researching chest holsters, and any information I can get is much appreciated.
    I am leaning toward the Kenai. It does seem that most reviewers favor it as their number one choice, from what I have seen so far

      If I wore one all day every day, I think it has an edge over the Hosking. But for occasional use like I wear it, either works fine. Thanks for watching.

      @murphyfirearmstraining3630 Also, this is another interesting point, because there is a possibility where I would be wanting / needing to wear it for at least twelve hours per day, so COMFORT would be an absolute must.

    Were you able to get the screw tightened well enough to keep the holster from shifting?

    • @murphyfirearmstraining3630
      @murphyfirearmstraining3630  Рік тому

      Yes. With the top screw tightened down, it stays at the angle I put it at. I am not sure it would if I kept a really heavy revolver in it.

    Will the kenai harness work on the Hosking shell?

    • @murphyfirearmstraining3630
      @murphyfirearmstraining3630  Рік тому

      sort of.
      The kenai shell has three clips. The Hosking has 2 clips. You would have to thread the third strap (the one that goes over your shoulder) out of the Hosking and then thread that through above the clip for the kenai. I also think the Hosking has a slightly less wide strap over the shoulder, but it would work.

      I own three OWB Hosking holsters. Two are customized to accept my G17 with an Olight Mini Valkyrie and a Holosun 501C. Ask and ye shall receive. Matt always goes the extra mile for his customers. My next chest rig will be made by Hosking Holsters.
