- Boyzone, an Irish boy band, was formed in 1993 by talent manager Louis Walsh. Prior to recording any material, the group made their debut on RTÉ's The Late Late Show. The band's most successful lineup comprised Keith Duffy, Stephen Gately, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating, and Shane Lynch. Over the years, Boyzone achieved remarkable success, releasing seven studio albums and nine compilation albums by 2018.
In 2012, the Official Charts Company ranked Boyzone as the 29th biggest-selling singles artist in British music chart history, making them the second most successful boy band in Britain, surpassed only by Take That. The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) certified Boyzone for 6 million albums and 7.8 million singles in the UK, contributing to a global sales figure of 25 million records by 2013.
Boasting six UK No.1 singles and nine No.1 singles in Ireland, Boyzone demonstrated consistent chart success. Of the 24 singles released in the UK, 21 entered the top 40, with 18 reaching the top 10 and 12 securing a place in the top 2. In the Irish charts, 22 singles, including 19 in the top 5, underscored their popularity. The band also notched five No.1 albums in the UK.
After a hiatus in 1999, Boyzone made a comeback in 2007, initially intending only to embark on a tour. Tragically, in 2009, Stephen Gately passed away from natural causes while on holiday in Majorca, Spain. Undeterred, Boyzone commemorated their 25th anniversary with a tour in 2018, releasing an anniversary album on 16 November of that year. However, on 28 April 2018, the band announced their permanent split following the conclusion of their anniversary celebrations in 2019. Boyzone's legacy remains embedded in their chart-topping hits, millions of records sold, and their enduring impact on the boy band landscape.
