Its because he is in the highest tax bracket for federal Canadian taxes...53% of his salary goes straight to the Federal Government. Can't blame him for wanting to go somewhere where he won't get robbed!
Could be that. But also Vancouver has some of the most getto parts of all of North America with drugs being legalized. I dont think he minds playing in Canada or a big market if he's getting paid well. That being said a lot of these cities are either way too cold or dead. Example: Calgary, Edmonton, Vancouver, Jets. Don't see him to Montreal or Toronto either since French and Toronto definitely can't have the cap. Only team I actually see is Ottawa. Maybe Montreal.

Key word 'rumour' I once heard that my neighbor was a gameshow host; turned out it wasn't true. Rumour. Pettersson stated at the beginning of the season that he would be waiting until the offseason. The only issue atm is that the media is making it an issue.
As a wings fan petey would be great but if the wings drafted a kid who flourished and was offered an extremely fair extension and he just blew it off id be pissed... vancouver is one of the best teams in the league what does this dude actually want
He wants to keep more of his money instead of giving 53% of it to the Canadian government in taxes. Canadian government is literally taxing hockey out of the country which is sad because it's Canada's game. There is multiple Canadian players who have publically stated they would never play for a Canadian team.

@@chrisgoodings4450 your first point, are you seriously trying to compare the franchise history of the Canucks to the red wings??? This rumour has been great for seeing how bad people are at mock trades. All I know is trading for Pettersson is gonna cost a lot and a lot more than what most people think. I also think that Pettersson turned down that offer because he wants to win and management in Vancouver hasn't exactly been the best or most consistent. During this past year with the moves made under the management group and the way the team is trending, I think Pettersson would be willing to revisit the contract. He's said he doesn't want to negotiate a contract during the season I'd expect that by the draft he's locked up long-term around that $12mil mark that was offered to him over the summer

After signing his last contract after a short holdout, Petey came out and played terrible the first half of the season. I think he felt pressure because of the bigger pay. I think that is something he wanted to avoid in the middle of the season (he's said that in interviews). I really believe he just means what he says that he wants to wait until the off season.
If Pettersson is trying to reset the market for contracts, it may be better for the overall team to re-sign Lindholm at a reasonable price and accept a trade with a bag of assets to stack the Canucks roster moving forward.
Canada tax wise sucks, Vancouvers location isn’t great he has been there for what like 6 seasons already he might just want to move on he owes them nothing

Honestly I have thought this for a long time I just don’t think petey wants to be a Canuck. I don’t why but he just doesn’t seem interested or passionate about being here. I think it has nothing to do with money. I think he would rather play elsewhere
He doesn’t want to sign long term, but I think he would do a shorter (Matthews type) deal). If that’s the case Vancouver should just sign him to 3/4 years at 12 or 12.5 and go for it now. If they have success it doesn’t matter if he says no to an 8 year deal. I wonder if more players will lean towards shorter term deals and flexibility in the future… I know security and possibility of injury is why players opt for those long term deals, but he’s already showed he’s comfortable with a short term deal since he signed a bridge deal 3 years ago.
Wasn't there a rumor a year or so ago that the team wasnt sure or flat out said they didnt want to sign petey long term and do a bridge deal? And, narratively speaking, suddenly they want to do a long term deal because the team is doing well?
.petty is getting to greedy! 12.5 m a year 8 years not enought thats just behind mikinnon mcdavid come on now petty 12.5 m is pretty good for only 6 seasons in nhl ide say petty might get traded! hews not worth more then wt hes getting offered by knucks!
I dont think pettersson will end up in montreal. Didn't Mike Matheson destroy him in his rookie year with a crazy hit? Can't imagine they are on good terms.
Pettersson said he wants "to be on a true contender", yeah? Look at Vancouver and tell me, straight up, if they're built to contend in five years from now. That's what he wants. YES, they're absolutely a contender *now*, but can they maintain this long term? It doesn't matter if the Sedins are in the front office, what matters to him is winning, now and for the future. If they can do that, great! I say this as a Wings fan, and while I'd love to see Pettersson in the Winged Wheel, I'm indifferent as to whether we actually go out and try to bring him in.
He’ll be a red wings soon. Wings got a ton of assets. Not named sandin-pellika, kasper, or danielson or edvinsson or cossa or trey augustine or Seider or Raymond. Plus they got draft picks they’d be willing to move.
i don't remember dhaliwal saying anything about them offering him8 years. there were reports and i think he just said that didn't happen. also pettersson said he loved the team and the city and was willign to sign long term so just wait. if he wants to wait just let him wait. also if there is an offer sheet especially for long term canucks woudl just match in1 second.
Hey, would you consider talking about Anthony Romani? I have been following the draft closely and feel like he might go late and be an absolute gem. id be interested in what your opinion of him is. I don't know much about where overagers end up going in the draft and historically how they've have performed after being drafted
Yzerman would not pay up for petey, he is tremendously cheap and most of the time makes deals where he has some leverage - unless petey wanted to go the wings like debrincat, I don’t see it happening
I have not seen anything about him wanting out of van. He said before the season started he did not want to talk contract until after the season. Also what contract did he turn down? He has an offer on the table but he has not said no to it.
The only way i can think of to help equalize the league is to lower the cap maximum.... but make the cao based off of the post tax anount the player make. Something like that would eliminate a teams ability to fetch a player based on taxes.
He didn't decline the deal. The team wants 8 years, petey wants 3. That allows him to sign an 8x16m deal in 3 years(28), becoming the highest paid player in the league. Why does anyone do their job? For money.

I dont think pettersson will end up in montreal. Didn't Mike Matheson destroy him in his rookie year with a crazy hit? Can't imagine they are on good terms.
Honestly even 12m is too much for Elias. He’s no where close to as impactful as mcdavid or Mackinnon
He has been unhappy in Vancouver for a while. Vancouver is a big rip off with a high drug/ gang rate. Many hate it there.
It's over ! Elias Peterson just signed 8 years for 11,6 M$/year. Don't believe the rumors!
Craig Button suggest an hostile offer at 1 year 15 M$/yr Just to get Elias Petterson and after you negotiate the real contract.
Get this guy off the team ffs. Guy skates like Bambi and is turning down 8x$12 ?? See yaaaaaa
Bergy, Kasper, and Eddie for EP. Det gets a franchise center. Van gets 3 young high end players. We would probably have to give them a first as well.
Van declined and counter offers with this :
VAN receives :
Danielson
Seider
DET receives :
EP40
It's probably because he knows they are screwed next season when you can't bring back all these guys
Petterson not worth that, not even close. He is not even top 5 in the league. Get rid of him while you still can.
To buffalo Peterson to Vancouver middlestead and propspects
Welcome to the Detroit Red Wings Petey
Lol when your too young to remember the Weber and vanek offer sheets
Montreal NEEDS him. Trade anything.
ill take him on the bruins for lysell, and a 2025 1st haha
This didn’t age well. Only took 24 hours
Trade him for Michkov and Bonkers
Maybe he’ll stay now that the green men are back.
Petterson to the capitals
ROFL! This aged well.
this didnt age well
He will stay for sure.
Welcome to Motown Petey 🛞 🪽
Worth 10.5 max
Bad room?
Lmao trade petersson a pick n some prospect n some other small adds if needed for Luke Hughes and Jack
That's the best laugh I'm gonna get all week... 😂. It'd be more likely that the devil's do what they can to get Quinn
He’ll be a red wings soon. Wings got a ton of assets. Not named sandin-pellika, kasper, or danielson or edvinsson or cossa or trey augustine or Seider or Raymond. Plus they got draft picks they’d be willing to move.
u cant expect to keep every one of your top assets for a player of pettersons caliber
@@yankee2926you can when he’s about to be a RFA.
They’d be a dynasty with Kane too sheesh that would put them over kasper and pelika is what it would cost
That’s the off limits list, maybe Johansson and Lombardi
@@MONTAGESNIPESTVKasper yes but only bc of Danielson, Pelikka has to stay, kid is gonna be filthy
i don't remember dhaliwal saying anything about them offering him8 years. there were reports and i think he just said that didn't happen. also pettersson said he loved the team and the city and was willign to sign long term so just wait. if he wants to wait just let him wait. also if there is an offer sheet especially for long term canucks woudl just match in1 second.
Hey, would you consider talking about Anthony Romani? I have been following the draft closely and feel like he might go late and be an absolute gem. id be interested in what your opinion of him is. I don't know much about where overagers end up going in the draft and historically how they've have performed after being drafted
He's not tocchets guy plain and simple
this didnt age well
Yzerman would not pay up for petey, he is tremendously cheap and most of the time makes deals where he has some leverage - unless petey wanted to go the wings like debrincat, I don’t see it happening
I have not seen anything about him wanting out of van. He said before the season started he did not want to talk contract until after the season. Also what contract did he turn down? He has an offer on the table but he has not said no to it.
why wouldn’t they just keep him as a seeming “rental” for their playoff run? why trade him when they could very well win now?
8 years at 12m sounds good now but it won’t be great in the second half of that term. I suspect he would do 4 years at 12m.
Vancouver ownership and management prior to this season shot themselves in the head . Petterson will leave . And I don't blame him.
I mean if they truly did offer him that and he declined it i would be worried too they shown they will give him the money and term and he said no.
Very emotional comment section!!! They must of lost all their crypto. Lmfao
Makes more sense why Vancouver made the Lindholm trade now I guess?
Nathan, pronounce his name correctly! So disrespectful!
So many emotional bot comments. Anyone else think its a bit strange???
He does not want to be there. It is clearly not about the money.
Are they gonna resign Elias Lindholm? i think that trade siganls Elias P is gone
didn't age well
your name is too perfect
chris hansen talking about age lol
The only way i can think of to help equalize the league is to lower the cap maximum.... but make the cao based off of the post tax anount the player make.
Something like that would eliminate a teams ability to fetch a player based on taxes.
What? Cities, states, countries are getting their taxes. You think teams will foot the difference of the bill? No chance!
He didn't decline the deal. The team wants 8 years, petey wants 3. That allows him to sign an 8x16m deal in 3 years(28), becoming the highest paid player in the league. Why does anyone do their job? For money.
He would get less money on a short term deal. (10 mil max) lol The long term deals are higher because they plan for future increases in salary.
