Merry Christmas Honor! All I can say is that you seem to love your job, and what a natural presenter you are too. And of course festive greetings to all the rest of you at the Met Office too! Yo ho ho indeed 🙂.
The snowiest Christmas I remember growing up in Aberdeen was 1995, white out conditions even in the city pretty much the entire day, following on from an incredible blizzard overnight from Christmas Eve into Christmas morning. Then after that into Boxing Day came a record equaling plunge of cold air. It was a year of notable weather events in that part of the world, August saw temperature records broken twice in a week, and September 1995 became the wettest month on record in the space of just 72 hours mid month.
Merry Christmas Honor to you and everyone at the Met Office! Another excellent Deep Dive which I can say along with everyone here we really appreciate. Thank you!
Thank you, Honor, for all the details about the Christmas weather past and present. I wish all the staff at the Met Office a Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.
No thanks! 😂 Unless it means more fog to cover the excess daylight hours! I want my sun during Winter when it's precious and means a lot. And snow on boring school/work days instead of doubling up at Xmas time!
I very well remember the 2010 White Christmas which was actually the second in a row…we were supposed to be in Wester Ross for Christmas 2009, but came back on Christmas Eve as the snow and ice was severe but stunningly beautiful up there. Turns out it was the right decision as more snow arrived Boxing Day and blocked the A9. Happy Christmas Honor and everyone at the Met Office.
And the moral is - never trust the weather headlines in the tabloids. They have a financial interest in cherry-picking certain weather outcomes. Much better to enjoy watching the Met Office's more balanced and skilful forecasts, not to mention its expert presenters. Thank you Honor, and Happy New Year!
Happy Christmas to all at the Met Office, thank you for bring us update with the weather. It is stuipded news people ie news paper website telling people fake weather news. Plus any news on the other Met Office reporter on leave to have a baby, how she is doing
I remember one year a december temperature was the same as the midsummer temperature - have I imagined this? In central Scotland, it was 20 deg on 20th or 21st June, and I'm sure similar on 20th Dec. Maybe not, 20 deg is a bit warm for June.
Plus I noticed that in this country we cannot manage if the weather snowing, too hot, to cold etc everything grinds to a hault. For example which is puzzling with the trains (down south), cannot run due to the wrong type of ice is on the track and third rail, also if it starting to snow during the day school and college closes, yet latter that day the snow has melted away. I still remember in 1980s in June (if I remember correctly) we had snow
In Honiton Devon. The cloud based is very low .What's the dew point altitude of the air under the pressure. We are at about 450 ft. Say 240 meters ASL.
Always enjoyable to watch many thanks but could you please check and ensure your spelling of Welsh place names is correct. On your weather charts (8 minutes in) it should be CLWYD not CLYWD also LLYSDINAM not Llysdinum.
The last very cold Christmas Day we had was 2020. No snow or anything but a crisp, bright and frosty day. The last one before that was 2010. If that pattern continues expect the next cold Christmas to be 2030. lol
I want to ask the Met Office is going to Lapland the only real guarantee of a thick snow cover in winter near sea level ? I book a 6 day holiday to Northern Finland in early February 2025 is there going to be definitely ice days with max temperatures below freezing?
Why do the NWP models always tease us with widespread snow in southern England when there is cold weather being forecasted and you guys disappoint us which most of time turns out to be true most of the time?
Thankyou to all the staff at The Met Office. Merry Christmas.

Thanks Honour. Didn't mention the jet stream once that drives most of the UK weather?

"Going to" not "gonna" please Anna 😉
🤣 I don't know where you're getting your forecast from but I can reassure you that it's been freezing cold here in Aberdeen today smh!🙄
15:30 headlines like this wind me up. Its always ends up being rubbish.

It's not the "festive season"; it's Christmas.
The Nazarene is the reason for the season.
There has been a festive period around the mid winter solstice since long before Christianity existed.
It's been referred to as the festive season for hundreds of years. Settle down. No-one is taking Christmas away from you.
Why do the NWP models always tease us with widespread snow in southern England when there is cold weather being forecasted and you guys disappoint us which most of time turns out to be true most of the time?
I whant cold feel please don't feel Christmas it mild
Merry Christmas 🎉but I’m finding this deep drive quite boring sorry 🎉
