For Phoenix you need speed and altitude. The higher up and faster your jet is, the more deadly the Phoenix gets. Even against targets that are lower down.
I know ppl have already told you this, but here are some tips: Regarding radars, if you're using PD mode and ppl start flying perpendicularly you will lose lock - it's called "notching". You can do this as well to make enemy lose radar lock, if they're locking you using PD mode. To not let that happen you can switch from SRC PD to SRC if you see the enemy is trying to notch. However, they may use chaff/fly low to the ground, wich may affect normal SCR lock and you will lose it anyway. But it's still worth giving a try. Also, HDN mode stands for "headon" and it's pretty self-explanatory. Only use it when the enemy is in front of you and is going towards you. Use normal mode if you're having a hard time locking enemies in SRC/TWS HDN. Because you wont be able to lock "cold" targets in HDN mode. And about AIM-54s, you don't have to maintain soft/stt lock, you simply have to have the enemy contact on your radar at all times. Phoenix will guide itself on the target you've launched on and wont switch to other targets if you softlock them. This will allow you to launch at multiple targets at once, as long as they're still on your radar before phoenixes go pitbull (active). Last but not least, don't use TWS mode if the enemy is near you. Use normal PD radar, preferably in ACQ mode for auto-lock. Having a solid radar lock will also help to slave a sidewinder if the enemy is actively flaring.
The Tomcat is stuck with TWS HDN / PDV HDN and SRC. You can easily chaff SRC and PDV. Turn 90 degrees and decrease altitude if you can and you'll defeat the 7M. As far as the 54C you'll need to go cold.
Idk if it's just me but the Tomcat's radar set for TWS / PD is kinda BS. There's no way the AWG-9 only has TWS HDN, PDV, and SRC. Some sources claim it has 9 radar modes. It's so easy to notch the awg9 in game due to it not having all aspect TWS / PD. I hope gaijin realizes and do more research.
its impossible to have "all aspect" PD mode, just because of the fact how PD works. you can always break PD lock by notching, but this can be countered by switching from SRC PD track to SRC track
I could be mistaken but didn’t the f-14 come with independent missile locking systems, meaning you don’t have to physically hold the lock like with the f-4 phantom
Yes, though the default settings are good enough that most of the time you don't need to manually adjust it. Unlike the mig23, which will never spread its wings fully by itself until you're already at stall speed
The f16 and Mig 29 have a very capable radar the allows them to lock you from the rear in pd mod. The F14's radar can not unless in scr mode and it is still not very consistent. If the enemy notches before you have reached 10 km's your aim 7m would lose lock. I try to use the aim 7m around 20km's or as a dogfighting missile because it can turn very tight around and hit targets at 3km's. I have even shot someone with an aim 7m in my f16 at 1.8km's from the rear. Turns harder than an aim 9L sometimes.
I can't remember off the top of my head. The plane should only lock onto enemies. If you go in to test flight you should be able to lock to the Mig 15s to see what it looks like.
@@zenitu6914 yeah he still uses manual control and is all herky jerky with the controls. I get using it for tighter turns, but it's impossible to be precise when using it.

Toastman really likes not using WEP until it's necessary.
@@usmcpound He is managing his fuel. But Aim54 needs speed to be viable. Launching at under mach 1 reduces the chance to hit very drastically.
@@danielmostert993 Yeah I understand that he's conserving fuel, but he's limiting his weapons capabilities because of it.
Got it, I'll tryi it next time ;)
@@danielmostert993I mean, 48 minutes of fuel is enough or too much.

"HDN" does affect your locking, its good for face on, but not side or rear.. so use the PD or non, it might will help
Cheers bud.

The best loadout I find for the F-14B is X3 Aim-9L's X3 Aim-7's and X2 Aim-54 C's
Ok, cheers.
When launching missiles for long range, especially the 54s, it helps a lot to be supersonic before the launch.
Roger that.

But the nissile would be fitted to hold the lock with systems on the missile
Yeah I think you are right.
does the wing sweep change the manuever ability of the aircraft like in real life?
Yes

I hate top tier bc of that losing lock Im not sure what im doing wrong but yea it feels like every mig29 has the ability to keep lock forever

Why not just play Dcs?
Good point. I have a DCS playlist but I'm still learning the planes at the moment.
Do you use a joystick
Yes bud, this is an old vid but it's mostly the same. ua-cam.com/video/yFBS3kIqNfY/v-deo.html
F-14B kinda trash in my opinion.. the A was better
?? 1v1 or when it came out it had bigger impact on the game?
