- Johnny Flynn and his sister, Lillie, perform The Water live at the Luminaire, Kilburn on Sunday 6 March 2011.
Johnny's headline Transgressive show was part of the venue's 'Wake Week'. Sadly, this great venue officially closed its doors in December, and is a great loss to the London live music scene. Wake Week, which ran from 2-7 March, was one last chance to say farewell to the 'Lumi' and see it off in style! Other artists taking part in Wake Week included Dry The River, The Fence Collective, Peggy Sue and The Mariner's Children.
The original version of The Water can be found on Johnny Flynn's second album, 'Been Listening' (Transgressive), where the harmony vocals are provided by Laura Marling.
This was an exceptionally lovely performance. Johnny & Lillie's harmonies were really quite exquisite, making it without doubt my favourite live version of this song so far!
Update, Summer 2012: Both Johnny and Lillie Flynn are also actors. Johnny is currently appearing in Richard III & Twelfth Night at Shakespeare's Globe; Lillie plays Nessa in the London West End production of Wicked.

Quick Update (May 2024): Johnny is currently performing The Water on his tour with Robert Macfarlane, he played it last night at Alexandra Palace Theatre so fingers crossed if you are seeing one of the remaining shows!
This is my favourite song, has been for years, and now, finding this version, is the best one I have heard. Beautiful gentle singing, harmonies are glorious.

Lovely! But then you, Johnny went harmony and without Lillie but someone else. Deeper story here..., and that's fine. But Lillie is just as good as you. I want to hear more from Lillie.
This is the best version by far. Lillie's voice in this one is amazing and Johnny just canes it. Sweet. Sorry Laura but this the best. :)

This was so gorgeous! Lillie's voice sounds so different, and so beautiful when she hits the lower register. I wonder if she's ever written any of her own stuff? I would buy that.
