It's significantly less of a problem when you don't already know that there's someone to look for. That said it's good to keep in mind. Hiding properly in shade, or having some kind of shade over your optic mitigates this problem if a kill flash or some other lens cover isn't available. I wouldn't say getting them is critical. Simply put snipers are always the example used, because what's really happening is that the sniper has already taken a shot, and everyone is scanning the area where that shot came from. In reality you're more likely to be given way by your BEWs than the glint on your LPVO or red dot.
Yes. It's the "Where's Waldo?" phenomenon. It's a lot easier and much more likely to spot a small image in an overall big field if you already know that the image is there.
Not true anymore. There are portable laser detection systems that detect and target any reflection. War has changed drastically in the last 3 years. Unfortunately, the civilian is falling VERY far behind the military in capabilities. Which is sad because it's the exact opposite of what the founders intended.
@@goawaybaizuo I don't think even they in their infinite wisdom could dream up the technology we have today. Civilians simply just cannot compete with the military budget.

Also along with the more militaristic examples of if you happen to, as a civilian, end up in a situation where you are on the run, and fighting for your life/trying to survive in a broken world small tips and such to learn about.
I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to learn this stuff. I think there's a pretty much no chance I'll ever use it in real life, but I always found military combat interesting. Some people defintiely take things a bit too far, thinking they're gonna be GI Joe in the upcoming apocalyptic wasteland we're apparently going to be living in. Like, in no situation am I planning to go shooting and taking my neighbor's food. Anyone that would do that is a psychopath.
Everyone listening to this is collecting guns dreaming about the end of the world and will never have to actually worry about an optic reflecting light and giving away their spot . Cosplay
I have had an extremely tight budget recently so instead of running a light cap I made one from a prescription bottle. I cut the prescription bottle down, drilled holes in it for elastic cord to run through and knot off. Put multiple coats of the spray camo on it and mount it up. The elastic cord works well to secure it with the proper tension and i can also secure it out of the way with no rattle if it needs to be. Not quite as convenient but it very much works. Also because of the bottle material it glows some around the rear edges if you ND the light lol. Could be useful to prevent melting your light cap. 😅

@@jackjohnson291 Depends on which branch and what unit, some of those guys are trained very very well, and some of them do get the bare minimum training. @@user-nu8in3ey8c I discovered much the same. It absolutely baffled me how little police officers actually train something like BJJ. I mean, some do it voluntarily. But some of these skills take years upon years to 'master', and then they're like... they do it a few times a year? xD And it's baffling too. Like, I get military personnel not prioritizing unarmed stuff. But a cop? You'd think the ability to safely disable a mildly antagonistic person through chokes and holds(safe for the cop and whoever they're dealing with) should be the gold standard.
There are man portable laser systems that track optics. They literally detect any optic reflection. It's being used to great effect in Ukraine. Both by sniper and troops to call in secondary weapon systems like drones or artillery.
The new optic that the US Army had developed even sends out a signal. If those technologies become more widespread, iron sights may become more viable again. Even terrorist groups have access to more modern equipment today.
Yep, Brandon made sure of that when leaving the Middle East... after our troops spent years inhaling smoke from burn pits to prevent exactly that from happening.
@@Tony.795Problem with iron sights is they have 0x magnification, and have parallax. A front sight post misalignment of a fraction of a millimeter becomes a missed shot a distance away.

I do believe that the optics would provide a considerable advantage once the fire has started vs this hypothetical scenario in which some enemy with eagle eyes spots your scope
I just run irons. I can hit 8" plates at 450 yards with 33% accuracy using precision irons. I can't use red dot, as it just looks like a big starburst that blocks what I'm aiming at, and I'm way too poor to afford good glass optics. But hey, if irons were good enough for Simo Hayha, they're good enough for me. Irons don't need batteries, don't fog, are very difficult to lose zero even when dropped, and they often have a very low height over bore axis. Get good with irons, and you're good to go. That said, if you can afford some good glass, get it. Being able to see your target clearly makes hitting it a lot easier - if you know how to use and zero your optic, of course. Best advice is to learn evasion tactics. You win every fight you avoid. I'd advise most people to never engage in a gunfight if they can avoid it, especially in a civil war or economic collapse scenario. Learn to evade, learn land navigation, and learn to trap. Have a plan, and if you can, execute the plan as a community. The lone wolves will just end up dead. Humans need other humans to survive in any meaningful way. Be active in your real life community, plan for the worst, and hope for the best.

Tactical civvies are so funny because they kit out like they'll be running delta force raids and CIA black ops and not defending their house from a runaway deer in their underwear at 2 am
if someone breaks in they take 15 minutes to throw on their plate carrier, battle belt, nods, ifak, ear pro, and other garbage
@@myon-What makes you think that? 🤔
These wannabes are always hilarious and don’t understand the concept of light discipline and other simple military disciplines. These tards are like, “shiny shit will get you killed!”, and veterans like us snicker no shit. They spend all of this money gear that they’ll never use, unless they are going to play operator or attend a protest to play citizen police. I think that if they want to actually get experience like the military, they should put on all of their gear and go sit in a field in the middle of summer on the hottest day, and wait unit they get acclimated.
Thermals are death. But situational awareness is #1.

The guy is ex-military and he essentially does video around the basic premise of when SHTF. Or scenarios like you were kidnapped, or a hostage that has broken free etc.
Does a lot of videos covering the basis of how to cover your movement, what you should be doing when trying to escape, what type of things you can do to make escape easier/safer.

They explain this in their long form video
I have had an extremely tight budget recently so instead of running a light cap I made one from a prescription bottle. I cut the prescription bottle down, drilled holes in it for elastic cord to run through and knot off. Put multiple coats of the spray camo on it and mount it up. The elastic cord works well to secure it with the proper tension and i can also secure it out of the way with no rattle if it needs to be. Not quite as convenient but it very much works. Also because of the bottle material it glows some around the rear edges if you ND the light lol. Could be useful to prevent melting your light cap. 😅

Also black pantyhose over the hex cap. The inside facing the lens has to be black though, or you’re going to lose contrast.
