I love Cannondale. I still ride my dream, a Caad10, as my main bike which I've spent a pretty penny upgrading cause it rides so well. Hell, I'm rebuilding my 1992 R600 because I like it so much. But, with that said, Cannondale needs to offer more builds for the Caad13, and across their line for that matter. The reviewer was riding the $5750 version. The only other option with disc brakes, listed on their site in the USA , is the 105 version which would cost a fortune to upgrade. This is unacceptable from a consumer's point of view. Offer framesets alone or offer more builds, or both!!! Just offer more, more paint schemes, easier access to priority parts, especially since you can't get a carbon seatpost for the SuperSix or Caad13 for less than $5,000. Cannondale, I live on the East Coast of the USA and I'm here to tell you, "You can do better."
I haven't ridden the caad 12 or the 13 so I dont't know if the new one is an improvement or not, however, I really did like the classic look of the older models, I think in a way the bike has lost its essence, especially when almost every major bike that has come out this last two and a half years looks exactly the same. I feel Cannondale have missed a chance to make something different and if there was a bike in their range to experiment with it's this one.
The colour is awful, thats for sure. About the welds, I think they made it explicitly this way, so you can see from further away that its an alloy frame. Seems for me like a marketing decision aka "show your welds, be proud of your alloy frame"
@@Skooteh Check out cyclingtips.com's review for closeup shots. The welds look much much better on those. I assume Bikeradar got an early production sample, and some hickups occur during manufacturing :)
WTF with the cosmetic comments on welds? Welds are meant to join pieces of metal with structural integrity. I want welds to hold my frame together, but if you want pretty welds... Ok.
Still not completely compelled to get upgrade from my classic CAAD9 with sram rival 1x. It’s still the best looking CAAD from the last 15 years. The smooth welds classic hourglass seat stays. Also I assume no track version which is a shame.
Love my purple caad12. Not a fan of this bike. Maybe it's just the fugly paint job, maybe it's the more apparent welds. I don't know, but I'm in no hurry to trade up.
I know that is a top end model and the lower end is more in the 1400 range.. I love my carbon bike but really want an aluminum bike for training miles and club rides. One that may get road patch flung up on it.. Really thinking the Emonda may be the right bang for the buck.
Maybe just me but I hate dropped seat stays on a lot of bikes so I'm with you on that one. I only ever liked how it looks on Merida's Reacto and BMC's Team Machine.
The light paint colour schemes really highlight the second rate welding job, especially in the seat stay. I am not a materials scientist but I wonder why Cannondale does not utilize hydroforming in their Alu frame manufacturing (like Trek does on their Emonda). So much smoother, more appealing and high-end quality finish. That would certainly justify the price tag attached to the new CAAD13. The difference is made in the frame (IMHO), any manufacturer can add the latest SRAM or Shimano accessories and some branded wheels.
It's great that you've test road the top of the line model of the CAAD13, with the more compliant KNOT carbon wheels and finishing kit, but would have been nice to compare the CAAD13 to the CAAD12 both in the 105, like the Bike of the Year was. Still would consider the new SS6 Evo over this as a N+1, as I'm still happy with my CAAD12.
Absolutely gorgeous. Except the welding. Is that a pre-production copy? I hope they smooth that toothpaste out a bit. Seriously tempted by this top end model vs a lower spec carbon version.
Disagree. The welds are chunky yes, but did you see the angles the tubes meet at? I guess it's a meter of personal preference. As for the color, I guess they're just trying to change things up...
Note sure what to think. I don't like the colors, and I don't like the lineup (no Dura-Ace disc ?), so let's get this out of the way first. What I'd like to know is "how much better is the CAAD13 over the CAAD12" if you take the same wheels and the same groupset. Is there any noticable difference ? N.b one thing the review got wrong, the geometry is different to the CAAD12. The CAAD13 shares the geometry with the SuperSix EVO3, which in reality is more the Synapse geometry than CAAD12/EVO2, so less agressive, less responsive.
@@ronitdebnath Yeah, somewhere inbetween, but closer to Synapse if I look at the wheelbase. One thing that really attracted me to CAAD12/EV2 originally was the short wheelbase, and the very responsive behaviour. One thing that always turned me off with Synapse was the sluggish (comparatively) handling. I like to climb, I want to throw the bike around the switchbacks ...
The welds look like something out of Walmart. Compared to other "performance aluminum" bikes (like Trek's Emonda ALR) which have seamlessly smooth welds, Cannondale's offering seems clumsy and unrefined.
Dorel are always snifffing around in the far east trying to find a factory that will make their bikes cheaper, looks like smooth welds aren't a thing at the factory they are using. A recent sickbiker video showed hopelessly poor assembly at the factory they are using, he had to correct a lot of issues. Even if I had £4,000 burning a hole in my pocket I certainly wouldn't buy this bike, I could never justify that expenditure for the extreme diminishing returns for someone like me. This is like paying £4 for a tin of baked beans that tastes every so slightly better than a 30p tin of beans. £1,000 will buy me a decent CF road bike with 105 groupset. I could spend the other £3,000 on perhaps a nice dual suspension mountain bike like the Bossnut Evo. I've still got £2,000 left so could buy myself a nice e-bike for £1,500. I've got £500 left perhaps for a budget 2 week holiday. Just seems like so many better ways of spending £4,000. Dorel probably buy that frame for less than $30. I know they buy whole bikes for less than $30 for their bottom end brands. On the Cannondale site they won't even tell you what aluminium they use it just has a stupid marketing name for their aluminium ' SmartForm C1 Premium Alloy'. Is it 6061 or something better, likely just 6061 if they are using marketing spiel to conceal the real material. On the Cannondale uk site is has the CAAD13 DISC FORCE ETAP AXS at £4,800. The depreciation on this type of bike is horrific. Even within the same year end of season bikes can be bought at retail often with 40% off quite easily sometimes and s/hand values will plummet far below that in just a year or so. I totally understand if someone is super rich and wants to waste their money but often people buy such bikes on credit which I don't understand at all.
Love the new bike. The 12 was great so this is a great surprise to see high end alloy frame for the masses. But bubba gotta get out of the speed suit seems to have enjoyed a few too many bangers and mash. Big belly!
Jayson Mitchell he shouldn’t have to! Cannondale bikes should be fit for purpose but they’re not! My Caad 12 has been a pile of crap! Press fit is useless and you sound like the designer who designed that crap!
@@BikeLife154 he shouldn't have to learn how to service his bike?... I have a Caad10 and it doesn't "creak." Also, it does serve a purpose; it saves weight while allowing for stiffer cranks. I have two english threaded bikes as well, one with Sram 1x and the other Campy. I can say "Press fit" bearings are not the problem.
Jayson Mitchell people don’t buy bikes so they can become bike mechanics! They buy them to enjoy and and have fun on! They don’t buy them to get stress from a creaking bb. Even my caad12 cost almost $2500 and it creaked after only the second ride! This is not acceptable! So stop being an annoying dickhead!
I happen to prefer the beauty of a traditional frame design more than I’d appreciate a few watts saved, even as I race. I find that if I don’t think a bike is visually appealing, I ride it less, and I enjoy it less. The new superbikes do all look very similar, and it’s taken some of the magic away from racing. I think it will send more buyers to custom builders to get something less cookie-cutter, something made locally, and something with better weld quality. Fast is important, but beauty is what pushes high-end bikes forward for me.
WOW I was waiting for it, But it never came. You kept talking about different elements of the CAAD 13. But you missed the biggest one 13 is the Chemical element of Aluminum on the Periodic table....
Bad name - 14 as I’m too superstitious 😂 and BB30A. Otherwise fantastic. The CAAD10 and 12 were fantastic on the rear comfort but slightly harsh on the front. Now with bigger tyres and mounts for fenders; the ultimate winter bike. People don’t like change. I might have to sell my 10 if they come up with a decent colour!
As mentioned, the care put into the smoothness if the welds looks poor. Like every other mass produced alloy frame. I'm sure the welds are strong but those kinda of aesthetics matter.
Thanks for the video and all the info about that bike! But if I could suggest something, could you please talk a bit slower and maybe more clearly? For me (and others) as not native english speakers its quite hard to follow. The subtitles help a lot though. Thanks and keep on with your great reviews!
I’m a luddite......bring back CAAD 12 with rim brakes...... it’s definitely lighter, and despite what the bike companies are saying today light bikes make a difference in the hills.
just saw the ultegra rim brake version in LBS in the dark grey color - looks great and apparently is faster and more compliant than caad12. be good to see review of the 105 or ultegra please...that Force Axs adds big cost.
I had held out for the new CAAD 13 as my next road bike, fully believing in aluminium. Saw the leaked pics which turned out to be accurate. Hated it and it looks worse in broad daylight today's video. Looked at other aluminium offerings from all the best brands and the only one close was a dull Canyon. So I went for beauty and got an ultegra Bianchi Sprint instead. (Rim obviously)
I've owned 7 Cannondale bikes up to date and no other. I'm a diehard Cannondale fan, but something looks extremely goofy with the head tube and fork combo. The Evo & system six is spot on. My CAAD 12 Black Inc. Edition looks geometrically better.
reading the opinions here tells me people care more for the look than the performance. I prefer performances, and according to the this video this bike is a great bike….but i'M a canyon guy so….cheers from Montréal !
For me beauty wins every time. And I’ve got nothing but love for the new design withe the drop seat stays. I’d say this puts Cannondale back out front with the big boys where they belong. Now if you’ll excuse me I’m gonna go see if I’ve got enough in the old piggy bank, ‘cause there’s a CAAD13 in my near future.
The D-shaped seatpost that Cannondale "adopted" (stole?) goes a long way in providing carbon-level comfort when riding an alloy frame. Giant is recognizing that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
I’m looking into buying the Caad 13 for crit racing. Any idea on how it would do in the racing scene? like the racier look of the caad 12. Not into the look of the CAAD 13 paint scheme.
I'm fifteen years old, and I would like to get into competitive road bike racing. I have a dilemma though, in that I need a new bike. My current bike is a Raleigh Revinio 1.0, a very cheap, basic bike, that I have used to just casually ride over the years. Does anybody have suggestions for a new bike? And also, I cannot decide between an endurance bike and a lightweight bike.
Eitan Frankowitz An endurance bike is designed for long distance riding. Most race bikes (trek emonda etc) are going to be fairly lightweight. It really depends on your budget.
Don't understand pricing for an Aluminum frame. Canyon has their Ultimate Carbon fiber w Disc and Ultegra Di2 for $3700. I have 4 Cannondales, but this is not a good buy. I was willing to pay more when they were made in the USA, but they aren't anymore.
What I want to know is why is the 105 rim version bike for sale in the UK at £ 1600 everywhere, when it's said to be £ 1330. Is that VAT bumping the price up, or will it come down soon?
I’m usually not that bothered about these things but I’m litterally view 1! Yasss winning bike looks sweet too ill have a look at the cheaper ones specs
There are also rum brake options. Can't fit the 30 mm tires, its max 28 mm. My advise is discs, so comfortable in braking and with the wider tyres you can give it a go on a gravel course if you wish
coldforgedcowboy I saw an old ‘Made in the USA’ Optimo the other day. Welding on the frame was flawless and these were the cheap alternatives to CAADs!
They are not bad, they are just not filled and grinded down. That allows to have smaller welds with less weight :) same on caad12. If you want nice welds, get a trek alr.
I believe it's an older version of this - www.cannondale.com/en-gb/gear/components/handlebars/carbon-handlebars/hollowgram-save-systembar Hope that helps. Liam 💙

@@Krisszhu1990 yeah I kinda assumed that. other brands like canyon also suffer from stuff like that so I figured it would get ironed out.
Still not completely compelled to get upgrade from my classic CAAD9 with sram rival 1x. It’s still the best looking CAAD from the last 15 years. The smooth welds classic hourglass seat stays. Also I assume no track version which is a shame.
Finally! The Aluminium Twin of the S6E
I like my Caad9 and still ride it. Smooth welds, and handmade.
Still loving the looks and ride of my old matte black, Cadd 10 Ultegra. It’s certainly enough bike for me....but I mostly ride mtn.
Got a black frame set for $950, gonna equip with 105 from previous bike and lets see how good it is.
How is it?
Crazy beauty aloy frame.
Love my purple caad12. Not a fan of this bike. Maybe it's just the fugly paint job, maybe it's the more apparent welds. I don't know, but I'm in no hurry to trade up.
Fugly beyond paint job sadly
I know that is a top end model and the lower end is more in the 1400 range.. I love my carbon bike but really want an aluminum bike for training miles and club rides. One that may get road patch flung up on it.. Really thinking the Emonda may be the right bang for the buck.
where is the review break in this advert ?
I’d rather stay with The CAAD12.
Maybe just me but I hate dropped seat stays on a lot of bikes so I'm with you on that one. I only ever liked how it looks on Merida's Reacto and BMC's Team Machine.
Dan Lazaro I always liked the classic geometry better. Sadly Cannondale forgot how great it was.
@@Cortes19882012 cuz muh aero gainz
I’m still on my caad 10 😂
Christopher Smith Keep on riding it. No need to upgrade to the 13.
Caad12 for me please. At least it'll probably be on sale now that the Caad13 is out.
Great video. Bike looks awesome. I prefer tech over beauty. But why compromise? How about both?
CAAD 12 for me good bike and no discs affordable too.
Cannondale have always been the king of aluminum frames and quality. At least this was the case with caad10. Perhaps not anymore?
It's great that you've test road the top of the line model of the CAAD13, with the more compliant KNOT carbon wheels and finishing kit, but would have been nice to compare the CAAD13 to the CAAD12 both in the 105, like the Bike of the Year was. Still would consider the new SS6 Evo over this as a N+1, as I'm still happy with my CAAD12.
It Looks really great, I'm a fan of the overall design. Top marks!
This is an advert not a review. Is this Bikeradar or QVC?
Both. And I think they nailed it
Absolutely gorgeous. Except the welding. Is that a pre-production copy? I hope they smooth that toothpaste out a bit. Seriously tempted by this top end model vs a lower spec carbon version.
Sorry but the colour scheme and welds are hideous. Think I'll save my cash.
Disagree. The welds are chunky yes, but did you see the angles the tubes meet at? I guess it's a meter of personal preference. As for the color, I guess they're just trying to change things up...
The new decal design looks modern but I prefer the Caad 12's _Cannondale_ lettering
Neither synapse nor previous caad12....its somewhere in between
@@ronitdebnath Yeah, somewhere inbetween, but closer to Synapse if I look at the wheelbase. One thing that really attracted me to CAAD12/EV2 originally was the short wheelbase, and the very responsive behaviour. One thing that always turned me off with Synapse was the sluggish (comparatively) handling. I like to climb, I want to throw the bike around the switchbacks ...
@@thomasroell2049 out of the saddle the caad12 wasn't just the best alu bike...it was one of the best bikes out of the saddle. Period.
The old "weve added 50% more compliance" line is there any compliance left??
The welds look like something out of Walmart. Compared to other "performance aluminum" bikes (like Trek's Emonda ALR) which have seamlessly smooth welds, Cannondale's offering seems clumsy and unrefined.
@Click Bait LOL ...exactly. No thanks, Cannondale!
Love the design
Love the new bike. The 12 was great so this is a great surprise to see high end alloy frame for the masses. But bubba gotta get out of the speed suit seems to have enjoyed a few too many bangers and mash. Big belly!
Looks great but I hope they have fixed their bottom bracket issues... The pain and suffering I had on my CAAD 10 has really put me off
Only when they drop pressfit will they fix it
Learn how to service your bike mate. Cheers!
Cool review, well done! Found the price a bit steep for an AL. But I like your jersey! What brand is it?
The Jersey is a PedalEd I think
@@nicolasmartin2314 you were right! Thanks!
I watched the video to see how the axle stays in the bike when the wheel drops out. I am disappointed.
What do you think about the Caad 13 BB30 bottom bracket? Have you experienced noise?
Bad name - 14 as I’m too superstitious 😂 and BB30A. Otherwise fantastic. The CAAD10 and 12 were fantastic on the rear comfort but slightly harsh on the front. Now with bigger tyres and mounts for fenders; the ultimate winter bike.
People don’t like change. I might have to sell my 10 if they come up with a decent colour!
beauty. Thats why i ride an Aithein with Campag Record 12 speed. That cost me less than 1/2 again for that bike. £5k is not affordable...
As mentioned, the care put into the smoothness if the welds looks poor. Like every other mass produced alloy frame. I'm sure the welds are strong but those kinda of aesthetics matter.
To be fair the caad10 had shitty welds already
Cool bike. Good to see aluminium still relevant. Not cheap though
Screw the classic lines. Go for the performance and comfort. I bought a BMC Gran Fondo 6 years ago which has the drop chain stays and never look back.
Compact rear triangle is doing the rounds these days.
reading the opinions here tells me people care more for the look than the performance.
Yeah I'd say you could expect to win 3 races and get top 5 in perhaps 7.
Buy used
Don't understand pricing for an Aluminum frame. Canyon has their Ultimate Carbon fiber w Disc and Ultegra Di2 for $3700. I have 4 Cannondales, but this is not a good buy. I was willing to pay more when they were made in the USA, but they aren't anymore.
Does it use the wretched BB30?
How does this bike perform for endurance and light touring? and what is the tire clearance?
Here in Aus this model with Force ETAP cost exactly the same as the Supersix EVO ($7,500) - not sure why anyone would get an aluminium bike then
aluminum stronger
What I want to know is why is the 105 rim version bike for sale in the UK at £ 1600 everywhere, when it's said to be £ 1330. Is that VAT bumping the price up, or will it come down soon?
I’m usually not that bothered about these things but I’m litterally view 1! Yasss winning bike looks sweet too ill have a look at the cheaper ones specs
Well done! Have a thumbs up and a heart from your friends at BikeRadar.
It’s a Cannondale and a CAAD, what’s not to like? Other than limited colour schemes and is it disc only?
There are also rum brake options. Can't fit the 30 mm tires, its max 28 mm. My advise is discs, so comfortable in braking and with the wider tyres you can give it a go on a gravel course if you wish
Can't Wait for the ALLOY version of the F-si
There is something super cool about riding CAAD. You can flex on carbon roadies just on cool factor.
Hello Bike radar how does the 105 calipers model compare to the giant tcr advanced 2 ?
Cobby welds on a Canondale are just wrong!
coldforgedcowboy I saw an old ‘Made in the USA’ Optimo the other day.
Welding on the frame was flawless and these were the cheap alternatives to CAADs!
Why are the welds so bad on a $5000 bike?
They are not bad, they are just not filled and grinded down. That allows to have smaller welds with less weight :) same on caad12. If you want nice welds, get a trek alr.
@@dakalla They could be smoothed out better.
How much of the compliance is due to the carbon finishing kit and wheels? Bet the entry level model is substantially less compliant.
Deep carbon wheels ride more harshly than shallow aluminum
What is the handlebar of the reviewed bike?
I believe it's an older version of this - www.cannondale.com/en-gb/gear/components/handlebars/carbon-handlebars/hollowgram-save-systembar
Hope that helps. Liam 💙
Think I'll go for caad13 ultegra rim love the yellow paint job on that one as well. Considered that or supersix ultegra but £300 difference what do you reckon between the two?
If they offer this as a frameset I would be very interested.
This is looking like the best bang for your buck bike again. I got the early model CAAD12 disc ultegra and love that bike. Would love thru axles on it however. I think the new paint scheme Cannondale has adopted is rubbish
