I'm no kid and I Know Travis. He wasn't doing it to honor Evel Knievel at first. That's just something that was said later. Since he was doing the jump where Knievel did he thought it'd be cool to wear the uniform. Then it was suggested that he ride the same motor bike that Evel Knievel did in the jump. Or should I say, the same type of motorcycle with several modifications. If he was going to do something to honor Evel Knievel. He what are use the same wrap specifications which he didn't. And he wouldn't of made the modifications to his motorcycle which was the Indian that he did. It wasn't the show or honor Evel Knievel it was to show that Evel Knievel has nothing on Travis Pastrana. A comment well many comments were made to Travis. He couldn't make the jumps that Knievel did back in the day with the same set up and motorcycle as Evel Knievel. Well Travis didn't even want to try with the ramp specifications. When Travis tried a smaller jump on the Indian that wasn't modified yet. When he would hit the landing ramp or even doing just small little jumps. He was basically bouncing out of his seat on impact. So modifications were done to the front and back shocks. My father what's good friends with Robert Knievel and worked with him on the Caesar palace jump. They want to call it a recreation of the Evel Knievel jump and it wasn't a re-creation in any way. The only thing that was the same was the number of cars and the number of buses. Yes the motorcycle was the same but like I said had modifications. The ramp was totally different. It had a different degree of angle and a launch ramp was much longer. Travis was not merely just putting on a show. like I said he was getting a lot of s*** about that he couldn't do or recreate a Robert Knievel jump. Travis didn't want to do the jump as Evel Knievel get the jump back in the day. If Knievel had things that these guys and even the motorcycle his son had when he did these jumps. Robert Knievel jumps would have been a lot bigger.

The difference with Evel was that every jump had an unknown outcome. It was a different level of excitement. He was crazy to try some of the things he did considering the equipment he used and the fact that he relied completely on instinct to plan the jump. When you watched him, you knew it was very possible that he could be injured or killed. On the other hand, Travis is obviously more skilled and the risks are completely understood in advance. The equipment is much better and the ramps properly built. Most importantly, he has the benefit of computer simulations to determine takeoff speed and ramp angles. This allows the jump to be designed with a large safety factor. Something Evel didn't have. Takes skill and guts to execute, but it helps to know it will work before you do it. What Evel did took balls considering the risks. When the risks are understood it's less about balls and more about confidence and execution. With the technology and knowledge Travis had, Evel would have made it look easy too.
Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Love Travis, and it's an awesome tribute. I always wondered why Evel never tried the parabolic arc take off ramp that his son Robbie started using which is a smoother and higher launch. Also, wondered why he used the Harley Davidson street bike, rather than motocross bike with more suspension. Evel's take off approach for the Wembley bus jump was so insane down the aisle of the stadium, and the impact with the steep take off ramp bounced his back wheel off the ramp which caused him to lose traction and power at the most critical moment of acceleration up the take off ramp. All that said, Travis has done some far crazier, death defying stunts, than anyone I've ever seen.

This is a custom flat track race bike from Indian, quite fancy suspension to begin with and quite light for its power. They probably just set up the already very fancy race suspension for landing jumps. Nothing on the flat track indian is really production, but it's one amazing machine. It's a shame they didn't really put any of the capability of this bike into to production replica flat tracker Indian is now making.

Pastrana's ability to adjust his balance and angle of the bike in the air is amazing. That's something that Evel couldn't do because is bikes were too heavy. Once Evel left the takeoff ramp, he was just along for the ride until he hit something on the other side.
No. Evel chose (and customized) this motorcycle, a 1972 Harley-Davidson XR-750, because it was a light, dependable racing machine. Made of steel, aluminum, and fiberglass, it weighs approximately 300 pounds.
Back then riders hadn't figured out that revving the engine or stopping the rear wheel alters the pitch of the bike. Serious difference. Physics. Evel went by seat of the pants, literally and painfully most of the time.

For Travis, who was one of the most skilled guys on a Motocross/Supercross track in the world, and probably the most accomplished freestyle rider in the world,---this jump was easy for him.
For all the haters, Travis wasn’t trying to say he is better or anything like that he was just showing respect for Evel by doing these jumps you bunch of jack straps
Travis grew up right down the street from me in davidsonville. His foam pit and dirt track are still there. He isn't there much these days but I remember seeing him driving around in that corvette that he wrecked. He was always nice to everyone around here.
@@lukesworkout2232 Yes! I'm reminded of his Jim Rome interview: "You know who the hell I am?" And the Snake River jump, about which he said that the prototype failed, they were out of money, so they just had to go with the second rocket (and hope).
That landing was a hell of a lot longer then the one in the 60's.Not to mention all the new suspension technology on that bike. That bike was perfectly built for the jump.Well planned and executed and glad to see he made it.If travis was on his suzuki he would of double backflipped it.
You crazy? the man has broken his body about as much as Evel, he's a racing legend, and did the first ever double backflip on a motorcycle. He redefined motorcycle stunts on a level comparable to Evel. They are both dare devils, but from different times. Pastrana is a more precise and calculated dare devil, but he's also broken half a million bones too. Pastrana is rather modest about his abilities.
He used a pretty basic flat track bike in the spirit of evil, suspension equivalent to a modern road bike with a third the travel of a dirt bike. Pastrana could do this on any motorcycle, but it would really be kinda silly on something less suitable.
the landing ramp was cushioned to, watch when the back wheel lands, sinks like two inches down into ramp.... But Travis is still awesome paying this tribute!
I remember when i was a kid, i always waited to watch in our local TV Channel every Jump of Evil Knievel in ABC Wide World of Sports! Thank You Travis for giving that same Thrill back to those days. I feel young again. Thank You.
Apparently Travis approached HD first with the idea and they said no, but Indian said yes and gave him 3 bikes (FTR 750) and the rest is history. So cool!
And on that last jump, Evel and Robbie didn't have a run up and ramp 15 feet off of the ground. Not the same at all. Not even close. Do it on the bitumen like the Knievels did with at least a similar ramp.
I remember seeing travis pastrana when he was just a little kid who was also racing at BUDDS CREEK MARYLAND ,I was racing in District #7 there .had no clue just how much he was yet to accomplish years later .A GREAT BIG CONGRATS TRAVIS .
Travis is incredible, I remember watching the double backflip as a kid, it shaped my life as an adult with now 10 years working in powersports, thanks Travis!!!
Sure, Category 7, retro styling would be more accurate, just that his Bell Star and four-inches of rear travel made me think retro tech, and c'mon, the whole vibe is retro so there you go. And I say that as a fan of Travis and Evel, and I got to see Evel do his thing at Ontario Motor Speedway in '71, his successful jump over 19 cars in the infield at a NASCAR race and all those long wheelies on the front straight and his cape flapping in the breeze. And my little thumbnail is sort of my homage to Evel, when I was one of those kids who wanted to fly like him on a Schwinn Sting-Ray.
Thanks, Category 7, and I am still a big fan of it all. And I'm still riding bikes at age 58, commuting to work every day on a mountain bike and sometimes wondering if my childhood friends are still riding theirs like we did back in the day when we kept scooting the ramps farther and farther apart. It was such fun to duel with them.
His jumps were whatever for me. Pastrana used a much faster bike than evel did. Not only that, but the ramp for pastrana was much longer. It would have impressed me much more if Travis Pastrana did a double backflip over the fountains of Caesar's palace.
Still impressive though. Evel made a lot of money and now this guy can make a lot of money too. Plus he won't have to spend a lot of time in the hospital.
I proposed to my wife here... I had my first love uuhhh.. he stops himself before spilling dirt on himself that his wife isn't the one he loves lol nor is she his 1st love or last lol
Caleb Botts I hate to burst your bubble, but for the Caesar’s Palace jump in 1967, Evel was riding a Triumph Bonneville T120TT 650cc weighing 363 pounds, 63 more than the Harley XR750, and 23 more pounds than Pastrana’s CP jump bike. Know your Evel Knievel history. Evel, legend.
Ok now trying doing the jumps on Evel's actual motorcycle, then I would be more impressed. Travis's bike is much more advanced and lighter weight than Evel's bike was.
No it isn't Andre, Travis was on a modern Indian 750, Evel jumped on a Triumph Bonneville. The Triumph probably weighed 50 or more pounds more and really did only have 4 inches of rear suspension travel. The Indian has more.
dtjs1961 I mean the event was put on by Indian...so....yeah. It’s called business. I’d like to see you do it on a motocross bike....let alone the Indian Travis rode...get over it.
That’s WHY Evel Knievel was so much more baddass than anyone who came after. His ramps were the same size on both side, maybe 6 or 7 feet wide, shits crazy
indeed...like alot of these new long and super long jumps...the landing ramp is 40ft tall 60 ft wide and tapers down about as long as the jump itself...lol... They are all great no matter. (Evil would laugh a bit at it all though)
When people who hold evel so high in regard they attribute things in his honour for being the one who gave them the inspiration to follow the career they have . Travis forgotten to mention his whole travis family for they all sacrificed for him to have a career he has now . People look at the admiration for evel and kids today admire travis as the new evel because he stepped the whole game up another level . Travis a national hero and world wide loved
Clearly you haven’t followed Travis Pastrana. He has done some amazing things in the action sports world. I would definitely put him up there with Evil Kinevel. The first person do double back flip on motorcycle is something in itself. All the other crazy things he has done over the years been very much up there with Evil Kinevel.
I was there with my Mom! It was cool. Well it was very very hot but it was amazing to be there for it, she remembered it back in the day and the crash.
Today's equipment made it look very easy because the ramps were bigger and the landing zone is much safer than before. And while that's not a bad thing it did make it appear boring. Oh well he did it anyway
If Gary Wells had used a landing ramp that wide, he wouldn't have been turned into a human pretzel that been stepped on. I'll never understand why he used that tiny little landing ramp.
His biggest challenge was only having a 200 foot acceleration runway before leaving the ramp. The area to the left of the fountains was much more open in Evel's day and he had a much longer acceleration lane to get up to speed.
Exactly. Evel didnt have all the computer Intel for jumping and all mathematical knowledge for distance and what not . Evel did it all in his head. Much respect to travis though. He gives respect to the master of daredevils.

you can buy this exact bike, FTR750 dirt tracker for $50k US....Travis had a front brake installed and that's about the only difference.
James Polucha Completely agree buddy. Travis makes it look easy and that brings out the couch warriors.
Jack strap LOL NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Leave jack alone.
Travis is better, but he's had state of the art equipment to practice with, that Evel never had
What's a jack strap😂😂
As a kid I grew up watching Evel I had all the action figures and motorcycles and have been riding ever since.
Thank you Travis for living the dream!
Travis grew up right down the street from me in davidsonville. His foam pit and dirt track are still there. He isn't there much these days but I remember seeing him driving around in that corvette that he wrecked. He was always nice to everyone around here.
great accomplishment BUT THERE WILL BE ONLY EVEL he jumped without test tracks computers custom built bikes JUST BIG BALLLS
biggg dadddy pump pastrana>evel
And what people forget most: small and flimsy ramps.
biggg dadddy pump Ya and then he broke all his bones
He jumped even when he knew it wasn't going to work, that is crazy.
@@lukesworkout2232 Yes! I'm reminded of his Jim Rome interview: "You know who the hell I am?" And the Snake River jump, about which he said that the prototype failed, they were out of money, so they just had to go with the second rocket (and hope).
A legend honouring a legend , awesome
That landing was a hell of a lot longer then the one in the 60's.Not to mention all the new suspension technology on that bike. That bike was perfectly built for the jump.Well planned and executed and glad to see he made it.If travis was on his suzuki he would of double backflipped it.
Travis always a 1st class athlete, sharing the spotlight with all his competition.
Thank you for honoring EK.
He should do Grand Canyon
Or maybe Snake River.
Both! :)
--- and bring one of those wing suites.
The Comedian with a smaller ramp
The Comedian yessss
Didn't Robby do this in 1989 and it was a 150 foot gap between his ramps.
Yea he did
What a great tribute Travis
This here needed to happen, and it totally made my day. Well done Mr. Pastrana.
These ramps were definitely built better and that bike was definitely built better . I give Travis team major props for this jump
It's nice to see Travis chilling out a bit and having fun. That's a sick bike!
Even Pastrana knew better than to use one of those cruiser bikes like Evel used to.
😌
And he will never be as well known as Evel for being a true daredevil
You crazy? the man has broken his body about as much as Evel, he's a racing legend, and did the first ever double backflip on a motorcycle.
Wow you seem to really know alot about Pastrana and absolutely nothing about Evel. Thanks for unnecessarily proving my point. Cheers!
Knievel could of made that jump if he had a budget like Travis to make a HUGE landing ramp!
they should have had the 1967 ramp next to the new ramp to show the huge difference.
the landing ramp was cushioned to, watch when the back wheel lands, sinks like two inches down into ramp.... But Travis is still awesome paying this tribute!
Do you know what was the year of this performance?
..thanks for not writing should 'of'...
@@robertallen6710 I read that with out "if" out of habit lmao
@Ricky Norton where does it say use the old ramp? Duh huh lol
So awesome!!! I grew up an Evel Knievel fan, and now I'm a Travis Pastrana fan. Travis - looks like a heck of a guy to call your friend.
Double backflip was his best stunt. Shit still blows my mind.
Leonel Morala it was like a video game he did it so perfect that. Isn’t at X Games.
Well Mike Metzger flipped over that fountain many years ago, but on a dirtbike. Both legends, honoring a legend.
Go look up Aussie Roll then edit your comment. hehe
He triple backflips now in case anyone is wondering.
@@Alex.04928 No, he doesn't. The only triple backflip ever done on a dirtbike was landed by someone else
I remember when i was a kid, i always waited to watch in our local TV Channel every Jump of Evil Knievel in ABC Wide World of Sports! Thank You Travis for giving that same Thrill back to those days. I feel young again. Thank You.
The Fountain jump was nothing like Evel tried and Robbie did.....
AGREED !
If he did it on a replica of Evels bike with the fountain on then it would be something.
Dude Travis does WAY crazier shit lmao fuck You talking about 😂
Yep
I've jumped bigger mudholes on my bicycle 🚲
Apparently Travis approached HD first with the idea and they said no, but Indian said yes and gave him 3 bikes (FTR 750) and the rest is history. So cool!
They could have landed a 747 on those ramps , Evel's ramps were 1/10th the size
And on that last jump, Evel and Robbie didn't have a run up and ramp 15 feet off of the ground. Not the same at all. Not even close. Do it on the bitumen like the Knievels did with at least a similar ramp.
Evel was a chump.
@@AwesomeBeatles Yeah right LMAO ROFL
Evels bikes were heavy and totally diff as well.
@@AwesomeBeatles He did more in his sleep then you
most likely did in your lifetime.
I remember seeing travis pastrana when he was just a little kid who was also racing at BUDDS CREEK MARYLAND ,I was racing in District #7 there .had no clue just how much he was yet to accomplish years later .A GREAT BIG CONGRATS TRAVIS .
Pastrana made Evel Knievel great again !!!!
That was awesome 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I heard about him doing this. Thanks for posting it, was a big Evel fan as a kid.
Had a first love here..uh lol 3:34
TJ Israelsen lmfao what happens in Vegas...
TJ Israelsen I think he was going to say *first LIVE nitro circus*
first love night lol
Vegas 😉
Travis is incredible, I remember watching the double backflip as a kid, it shaped my life as an adult with now 10 years working in powersports, thanks Travis!!!
That was great, congrats to Travis! And it is weirdly cool, using retro tech to do it.
Robb Chastain yes. Now no one can say that its cuz he had a dirt bike like robbie did when he made the jump.
CATEGORY 7 The Indian Scout FTR750 Travis Pastrana rode is a dirt track race bike actually. it isn't fully custom, but it is modified.
we dont you dork, he just cant go around touting that he did what Elev did.... get over it, he didn't period!
I remember watching this, such a class act Travis Pastrana is
That bike has a mono shock suspension. Let's see him do it with a exact replica as Evels bike. Night and day
Travis is one of the most humble and awesome people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting by far.. Wish more celebrities had that much class
His jumps were whatever for me. Pastrana used a much faster bike than evel did. Not only that, but the ramp for pastrana was much longer. It would have impressed me much more if Travis Pastrana did a double backflip over the fountains of Caesar's palace.
Tony Chavez actual he modeled that bike to be extremely similar to evils
Tony Chavez still a older model and heavy as hell
Still impressive though. Evel made a lot of money and now this guy can make a lot of money too. Plus he won't have to spend a lot of time in the hospital.
Tony Chavez would have been happy with one back flip over the fountain
Jak & Skills MVP travis's bike was over 300 pounds
He made that look incredibly easy. Excellent work Travis.
I proposed to my wife here... I had my first love uuhhh.. he stops himself before spilling dirt on himself that his wife isn't the one he loves lol nor is she his 1st love or last lol
Infinite Beauty ,lmmfao, i caught that shit too. I'm sure he's gonna have some questions to answer when they get home
Infinite Beauty I HAVE a first love uhhh Nitro Circus show here.
Nah he LOVES her but yeah she ain't the first. Let's not jinx their marriage just yet though 🤣🤣🤣
Infinite Beauty I caught that too dude easy on the red bull lol”
Infinite Beauty i wasnt the only one like what... lol haha Trav. be careful
because of the crazier stunts i've heard he has done made all these look easy! thank you for honoring the man!
The awkward moment when I found out that’s his mom not his wife 😂
shes pretty hot
Yes, I thought his wife was his daughter and his mom was his wife. Sorry!
Congratulations Travis! What a life this guy has lived so far.
The announcer...wow, how'd they ever pull him away from knitting doilies??
Travis, you are a class act! Thank you.
I don’t think Evel would’ve done these on an Indian though. He was a Harley guy for life.
Edit: Harley XR750 to be exact.
Caleb Botts harley used to make good American bikes... once
Caleb Botts he actually used triumphs too
Not just the hardly go Davidson
Caleb Botts I hate to burst your bubble, but for the Caesar’s Palace jump in 1967, Evel was riding a Triumph Bonneville T120TT 650cc weighing 363 pounds, 63 more than the Harley XR750, and 23 more pounds than Pastrana’s CP jump bike. Know your Evel Knievel history. Evel, legend.
Caleb Botts -Didn't Evel use Triumphs and Indians at times?
Motorcycle Madness! Thxs. I Remembered, Cool!
Ok now trying doing the jumps on Evel's actual motorcycle, then I would be more impressed. Travis's bike is much more advanced and lighter weight than Evel's bike was.
No...this bike used was as EXACT a replica as they could get to the bike Evel used
No it isn't Andre, Travis was on a modern Indian 750, Evel jumped on a Triumph Bonneville. The Triumph probably weighed 50 or more pounds more and really did only have 4 inches of rear suspension travel. The Indian has more.
Would you like one back flip or two? :)
Nothing easy about it. Thank you ...
Robbie jumped the fountains a long time before this
Congratulations and well done
Evel's sons fountain jump was way classier. And 2 of the tour buses were under the landing ramp.
Yep 2 buses😌
So by classier - you mean drunk?
He should do it on the same year and bike evil did it on show his real. Skill
You know his name was evel right? Not evil lol the fuck?
He probably thought about it then realized he had already broken enough bones.
dtjs1961 I mean the event was put on by Indian...so....yeah. It’s called business. I’d like to see you do it on a motocross bike....let alone the Indian Travis rode...get over it.
this was soooo amazing made it look eazy
OK look at the ramp Evel Knievel tried landing on at Caesars and look at his ramp. Just saying.
Steven Kloepping you aren’t kidding. It’s wide enough to land a Boeing.
That’s WHY Evel Knievel was so much more baddass than anyone who came after. His ramps were the same size on both side, maybe 6 or 7 feet wide, shits crazy
CHOCLODITE LENSMAN could you do it? Probably not
Steven Kloepping you couldn’t do it. Just saying
@@NewDesignVinylGraphics can i ask if you did your research first about pastrana?
All respect to Evel Knievel. R.I.P November 30th 2007
Give him evels old bike and ramps and watch him refuse...
Anybody smart would refuse
@@chefo.g7191 I think Evel himself would refuse his old bike and ramps if he were here now!!
indeed...like alot of these new long and super long jumps...the landing ramp is 40ft tall 60 ft wide and tapers down about as long as the jump itself...lol...
There will never be another Evel Kinevel . Sorry Travis but you'll never be the Legend he is
E Nnon Why is everything a dick swinging contest? The kid has made a name for himself and he’s obviously paying tribute here.
sidefx996 And he’s an 11 time x games gold medalist, nascar pro and rally car champion
@@Lala-qj7fd IDC NO ONE CAN DO WHAT EVEL KINEVEL DID. NO ONE
@@DrLove911 Chilllll, you got a fetish for Evel Kinevel or something?
Clearly you haven’t followed Travis Pastrana. He has done some amazing things in the action sports world. I would definitely put him up there with Evil Kinevel. The first person do double back flip on motorcycle is something in itself. All the other crazy things he has done over the years been very much up there with Evil Kinevel.
I was there with my Mom! It was cool. Well it was very very hot but it was amazing to be there for it, she remembered it back in the day and the crash.
Didn't Robbie Knievel already do all these jumps?
Evel Kniefel rolled his eyes as he should...
Shame that Travis is better.
@@souravmmishra Of course he is....just another reason.
Great jumps.2 great men.legends
Was the ramp that tall when Evel tried to jump the fountain?
No he had pieces of plywood as a ramp
No he was on ground level
Much respect to Travis..
Commit 100% , hold it wide open and don't look down... thats how we should all live our lives folks! Fortune favours the brave. 🏆
Travis Pastrana just seems like the coolest dude besides the fact at being a legendary stuntman. Bravo.
Nitro circus use to be lit on tv🔥
Alen Hansen I hate it when people like you just spam the same reply on diffrent comments
Travis pastrana is my idol and ever since I was a baby I was watching him and I want to be like him
Evel used a heavier bike.. So why wouldn't Travis be able to clear it?
His biggest challenge was only having a 200 foot acceleration runway before leaving the ramp. The area to the left of the fountains was much more open in Evel's day and he had a much longer acceleration lane to get up to speed.
Isn't that India 750 he was riding around the same class and weight?
LIVE FOR THIS
This was one of the easiest stunts I’ve ever seen him do😂😂
Awesome
Remember when Mike Metzger Backflipped over the fountains
I had a wind up Evil Knievel motorcycle toy as a kid...he was awesome
Robbie Knievel jumped the fountains first.
Those landing ramps were gigantic and impossible for him not to make it jeezzz !!!
I'd imagine today's engineers are better building the correct ramps and calculating proper speed needed.
Exactly. Evel didnt have all the computer Intel for jumping and all mathematical knowledge for distance and what not . Evel did it all in his head. Much respect to travis though. He gives respect to the master of daredevils.
The guy is amazing!!!!!!!
This wasn't that impressive. Evels jumps and his bikes were way more dangerous
No...Evel just made them more dangerous because his team didn't prepare properly.
He's the man!!
"Watch this landing! How much force there is!" As he lands like he just hopped off a curb. Announcer is a tool.
Yuuup yeah...hopped off a curb...apparently you’ve never seen some of the other things this man has done, or really ever jumped a bike in your life...
For everyone comparing, let's remember that Travis was a pioneer in his own right. He did the first double and triple back flip on a motorcycle
I just knew he had no chance of failure so I didn’t watch. Evel wasn’t the pro athlete Travis is.
I think Evel's bike wasn't as good as Travis'.
Nobody seems to understand he has the same bike evel did , same 4 inches of suspension travel as it and just as heavy.
True. This is nothing to Travis Pastrana.
He is riding an Indian Scout FTR750 racing bike. Evel used a Harley.
@@JackReacheround Exactly. Leave it to the armchair x-sport athletes to downplay a significant achievement.
