I actually mention in my Twitter profile that I'm named after asteroid 158092, and nobody has ever noticed the joke. It was all thanks to Jeff Medkeff, a fantastic astronomer and science communicator who named a bunch of asteroids after his friends a decade ago. Died of liver cancer in 2008. :-(

Tss, not only for the asteroids animation (which indeed I have used in my conferences, like many other astronomers), but also and mainly for the youtube channel. In Europe at least it seems science communication and vulgarisation is not done on TV anymore, but now on youtube. You are doing an important work. The thing is I looked to see what was your asteroid number, and was surprised you didn't have one. So now it's done. Very very well deserved.

My personal favorite naming convention for space Objects: Craters on Mercury
They are named for Artists. I find it oddly beautiful that everybody from Monet to Goethe, Tolkien to Chekov or Enheduanna (literally the first known poet - Sumerian who lived ~4200 years ago) to Keats has a crater named after them there. Lots of lesser known international artists too . And yes, once he has been famous for 50 years (so in 2025 perhaps) the International Astronomical Union should 100% be petitioned to name a crater after Freddie Mercury.

I paid $25 to name a star after my mom for mother's day 19 years ago. She loved the gift. The next day she had a stroke and died (I was there for it). So it may have been just some book put together for that website by some charlatan...but it was priceless for me because of the circumstances. Some of the best money I ever spent.
Love that someone did that for you Scott...that's awesome!

Nothing more cool than having a planet named after you. This is especially true if you’re a Scotsman. Oddly, beside our Florida home we built 2 years ago an addition on to a 19th C. Croft House in Caithness, Scottish Highlands 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿.
Seems like we should follow you on UA-cam & maybe Twitter too as you’re a Scottish neighbor. (Sadly, we haven’t been able to see our Highland home in 2 years, Gratis CoV).
But we’ll eventually get home even if it’s 10 years from now. Call us…”Missing Scotland”🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 & thanks for your interesting Channel.
