  • Here's a quick run down on how I trained my dogs to leave it and wait for treats.
I'm in no way saying this is the only way to train this! it's just how I did.

    He is so good!
I teach “wait” but I learned many many years ago to use “Ach!” for leave it. It is a noise that seems to work very quickly with little training which is great if you come across something nasty in an emergency.

I think it definitely depends on the dog and owner for sure. I prefer a solid leave it verbal command for my dogs. Vs that sound. I feel like i have better communication with them with it.

@@siriuslysalem I was taught to use the Ach sound back in the 1970’s! After doing it for so long it’s hard to change the habit. I think that your commands are easier for people to understand now!
I also automatically use Oy! with my dogs which means different things according to my tone. I got in the habit of using that with my children in the late 1970s and it’s a sound that travels a good distance.

lol I definitely understand that! I snap my fingers at my dogs often and they know that’s a second meaning to no. I accidentally conditioned them to that though unintentionally lol.

Thank you for this video. I have been struggling to getting my dog to leave my cat alone without having to use his "wait" command!

Had a question what’s the difference between leave it and drop it from your video a while back?I also have a problem with my dog he just grabs stuff for example like AirPods case or anything that falls down and growls when we try to take it away and won’t open his mouth will leave it and drop it fix that??

Hi so leave it is a solid do not touch that command. Vs drop it is let go whatever you’re holding.
You could definitely teach both to curb that problem! I for sure recommend focusing on one command first to get it super solid before working on the next one

@@clxpz4991remove any toy that is too high value for him. Use things that hold less value / interest. Or sub out trading the toy for a high value treat instead like a hotdog. Something smelly

very informative video! i saw you on tiktok so i will try to teach my dog this. at what age would dogs be considered "too late" to learn tricks? or is it never too late? mine is very young but i still want to know

Honestly it’s never too late! I often train older dogs. Sometimes it takes a little longer but it’s possible!

i cant figure out how to train leave it because my pup is too good at wait and knows if i throw anything down, he doesn’t get it. i want to take him into a small pet store i love but i feel as if he’ll grab snacks and stuff off walls, and saying wait wont apply? does that make sense lol

@@siriuslysalemthe only time we use the “wait” command is when is my mom or dad or both of them open the front or garage door to head on out to go on walks. My dog struggles on that command a little bit, but most of the time it’s achievable
About the leave it command, that one my parents and i or just them will use the most if any food that drops on the floor that dogs cannot have
