I had so much fun gathering footage for the crazy amount of Flash games featured throughout this video!
I tried to include as many of my favourites as I could, plus some that people recommended. Did I include one of your favourites? Is there a Flash game you love that didn't make it into the video? Lemme know!

Ever since I heard about Flash being dropped completely, I've been dreading the end of 2020. I was afraid that games I played ever since I was a kid would completely disappear. Not to mention all the cool animations I watched like Super Mario Bros Z. The people working on Flashpoint are awesome. They could've made it a profitable service but instead they made it free to make sure they don't take credit for the creators work. I'm also glad that everything on Newgrounds will be alright, but I'm kinda worried about Armor games. I'm downloading Flashpoint right now to take a stroll down memory lane, and to show my younger brothers what they missed out on. :')

The Library of Congress has a whole building and staff dedicated to preserving old movies and TV shows which is awesome. I wish they would put that same amount of effort into preserving video games including flash games, maybe even more just because if it's something like an MMO then you need server code and a server to run and not just a copy of the game. They don't do nothing but it seems like most of the effort is coming from pirates, emulator makers and people in the community.

    • @xyannail4678

No, because video games bad! In all fairness it's sad that when we grow up we will regret and blame the oldest boomers for thinking that our latest generation childhoods didn't deserve to be preserved because they most than likely think that if it is on the Internet it will never disappear. Heck, I'm worried about programs that simulate experiments that use Flash, and because the college teachers may not even know that it's going to shut down they will be left dumbfounded and then they will shift the blame onto students to try to run simulations without being able to go to labs due to Covid.

Studying archival sciences and going to spend my next 40 years working full-time as an archivist (I'll start writing my thesis soon), I'm happy to see how much effort the community is putting to preserve this piece of cultural heritage for the future. Yes, flash games are cultural heritage without any doubt, preserving them is therefore an important task, which is sadly overlooked, so the community has to do it on their own, voluntarily and by sacrificing lots free time and relying on donated funds. It's wonderful to see how much love and dedication goes into this huge preservation project. Hopefully we all will overcome any hurdles and get this done.

Every time I start a flashgame, I see a brief intro of whoever made the game or whichever website hosts the game. The flashy rectangle from NEWGROUNDS | EVERYTHING BY EVERYONE! The fighting swords from ARMORGAMES! The ant from KONGREGATE! If you played a lot of flashgames in the past you'll know what I mean. Now that I look back on my old flashgames, I notice that I have subconsciously become nostalgic for those intros. They're still there, in my downloaded flashgames. It was a parody of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon that was drawn with vector graphics, i.e. not pixel art. After the personality test was over, Gardevoir looked at the score and saw that the points would be enough to turn into Mew. Then, the conversation went something like this: "You're going to be a Bulbasaur." - "Bulbasaur? Can't I be a Pikachu?" - "Nope!" I think I saw it on UA-cam, meaning that I'm not sure if the original SWF file ever existed, but if you know the UA-cam video it would still help me out a lot!

Man, flash games were my childhood. Age of War, Cactus McCoy, Kingdom Rush, Monster's Den: Chronicles, Battle Cry: Age of Myths, Berzerk Ball, Miragine War...not to mention point-and-click horror games like Don't Escape 3 and The Last Door...
But most of all the Gamerias and the Mardek RPG series; seriously tho Mardek is probably my favorite flash game of all time, and the only one I still play sometimes...it'd be really sad to see it go, together with a large portion of my childhood, so I'm glad there is options to preserve them.
Glorious Morning is practically the theme of my childhood (and flash game nostalgia in general, being in so many memorable games such as Age of War (2), Siegius and Miragine war) and an amazing masterpiece...there really could not have been any better background music for this video.

It should never happen as it happened... Flash should keep it running with some "on your own risk" warning until there's a proper, and fully working replacement... html5 is absolutely not...
