I absolutely loved Laura's face when Anita jumps up to dance and flips her skirt back. Laura's face went from a smile to a very serious look of concern. It was hilarious!
This is one of my favorite episodes. Sally and Buddy are their typical comic geniuses. Rob is hilarious when he teases Laura about how wonderful Anita is. Laura's look is precious. Anita's dance routine was actually racy for those days. I loved it!
Rob imitating Mrs. Billings, in a hilarious falsetto,. "Oh, Mr. Petrie.". So funny!! I also loved the names of all the party snacks. Corn Curlies, Kasha Krispies, and my favourite, Potato Poopies. Yummy!! I wonder why they never caught on.
Enjoying these so much!! This episode is one of my most favorite! Thanks! This was such a great show with terrific people who knew how to entertain with humor...and class. Ah, those were the days.....
The FUNNIEST act in the whole show is Millie singing her hilarious 'torch song' "(I'll KILL MYSELF.....I'm funny that way."). Just as in the other PTA show she played Cleopatra as Mae West to Bob Crane's Mark Antony.
And Lisa's mother-in-law on "Green Acres." What a delightful character actress she was. It's always a pleasure to watch her. "Unpopular the Movie" - Red Grace Media (Final Cut) Free On UA-cam
Maybe my favorite episode of this iconic comedy sitcom. It wasn't until I re-watched this episode recently, did I research I researched Sylvia Lewis whom I wasn't familiar with before. Ann Morgan's Guilbert's Millie was off the charts here with her cleverly crafted audition song. (genius)
Omg!! This was one of their funniest episodes ever, laura, Rob,millie, buddy, Sally and Mel were in top form in this episode , it's a shame they don't make great tv like this anymore.😂😂❤
I’ve always noticed at the end of the rehearsal in the Petrie‘s house, Sylvia and Jerry Paris, run up to each other and embrace. Didn’t know they knew each other that well. Lol.
One of several classic vintage shows. Rose Marie was hilarious, as was Millie. Glad I was a child in the late 1960s, so I was able to watch many tv shows of the 1964-1979 era when new.
Actually, this is a phenomenon of singing. It is much, much easier to sing in a foreign language than to speak in it. This is proven again and again by foreign singers, but who cannot sit on a talk show due to the limitations of their ability.
It isn't necessary to know a language to be able to sing it---look at the many great opera stars who sang, and sing, in Italian without knowing one word of it when speaking. The band/singers known as "Abba" didn't know much English at all, and look at all the great songs they sang in American English.
I don't like Rob. He was Laura's husband ( in the show), but held hands with other woman while dancing with his wife. Suck!! . I lost my interest in watching his show.
It's not as funny. There's no episode if he just says no. Plus it was (and still is) a commentary on how people are often steamrolled in the name of civility, politeness and good intentions.
The entire dance scene was one ugly "blooper." With all that talent among the three of them, the writers of the show chose something that wasn't even worthy of showing to dogs, and dogs have no sense of dance at all!
I agree with you. I’ve said that for years. In the DVD show, they gave her a wider range of personalities to adopt based on the situation. From flighty and flaky to over the top and dominant, and her body language was perfect in each one of those situations. Plus, she could dance and sing. In the MTM show her personality was pretty much straightforward one dimensional through the entire run… Although it’s still a good show.
I've always hated that ugly "show" scene at the end (the dancing bit), but I wouldn't mind at all having my young figure back---I was once built the same as that beautiful young woman who sang with MTM and DVD.
mrs. billings is the stereotypical "upper class" woman that they are ALWAYS terrified of on these kinds of shows. the hat, the pearls, the phony affect.
@@jb6712 are you sexually attracted to women? i'm a heterosexual man, so i think i would know what turns me on a little better than you would. being a woman, i'm sure you would DISAGREE with that common sense statement.
Yep. Earle Hagen knew the best places he and his musicians had to be inconspicuous when Rob and Laura staged these "musical" evenings. Of course, some of them had to play under Richie's bed............ 😉
9:56 The lyrics of Millie's song, A Sentimental Love Song, are hysterical. 😆
Yes
The way Millie performs her audition song is hilarious.

I love Yetta 🕊️
This show was a treasure. The writing and acting were incredible.
That scene where Rob imitates the moves Laura made in her audition, afterwards, is an image that has stayed with me for so long.
You mean Anita
Where Rob imitated Laura at 18:45.
I die every time.
Laura deserved it, she always gets jellous, she has had the main part other years so give another girl a chance.
Yes..his "dancing".is hilarious......Laura needed that competition..one can't be the ONLY on everytime....That's show biz
Nothing better than a live show in the Petrie living room.
A show would have been great, but that ick thing was one of the worst bits of all five years of the DVD series.
If you mean Mel's "Ick", I hated that the first time I saw this (and that only last year)
I absolutely loved Laura's face when Anita jumps up to dance and flips her skirt back. Laura's face went from a smile to a very serious look of concern. It was hilarious!
Sylvia Lewis was quite a fantastic dancer and beauty and her Spanish was excellent. Laura's face was worth millions watching Anita dance.
Agree. And Eddie Ryder, Anita's husband, spoke excellent Spanish, too.
Horn section was off-stage. lol😂
She was. Check her out on the last episode of season 5 of The Andy Griffith Show.
Surprised that with all that talent and beauty she isn’t more well known !
She sure looks like Chiquita Rivera?
This is one of my favorite episodes. Sally and Buddy are their typical comic geniuses. Rob is hilarious when he teases Laura about how wonderful Anita is. Laura's look is precious. Anita's dance routine was actually racy for those days. I loved it!
Ventriloquist act was hilarious! Also loved Millie's heartfelt, off-key singing and song lyrics. And, the talented Sylvia Lewis. Great episode!
This show makes you feel happy, plus laugh a lot.
I miss that in shows today.
Wheatie Wow Wows and Barley Boopkus, too. 😅
Simply fantastic!! Amazing imitation!!!
When I was a kid watching this every morning during summer vacation I had hope marriage would be like this.❤🎉
Ya I hear you, but it's not quiet what we expect
Millie Helper is priceless!
She was hilarious!
MTM knew what she was talking about, with all those dance moves. She started out as a dancer, much like Laura Petrie did.
"But first I'll kill myself - I'm funny that way"...Mildred Helper, 146 Bonnie Meadow Rd. 😂😂😂😂😂

Ann Morgan Guilbert
playing Millie Helper
playing Mae West
playing Cleopatra
equals brilliance 👌🏼

Mrs. Billings is Eleanor Audley who voiced both Lady Tremaine in "Cinderella" and Maleficent in "Sleeping Beauty."
She also played Jethro's teacher on the Beverly Hillillies

LOL - that's one great sounding uke with all that brass and percussion while her hubby is still strumming away! LOL
one of the best episodes ever
Great song and dance routine❤️
Millie is great!
One of my favorite episodes showcasing the variety show aspect within a sit-com.
Oh I love Anita so much. She was great. Made me happy to be Latina and to know the song, I was singing with her!! 😍
Anita was a good dancer, but I thought a little strange that she couldn't speak in English but she could sing in it
@@kristabrewer6736 that's not unusual. People sing in languages they don't understand all the time. They simply memorize the song by sound.
She was never heard from again. Poor Anita!!
Absolutely EXTRAORDINARY ENTERTAINMENT and beauty, both girls and DVD!!! My favourite episode ….
My absolute favorite episode of all DVD seasons because of Millie's song. 😆
I-yi-yi-yi, I am the Frito Bandito!!! Circa the early 1970"s.

Amazing 🤩
Originally telecast on October 30, 1963.
WOW! Those Legs and Her Perfect Accent!
All Around! 🐺 Ahrooo!! 😂
'Mrs. Billings' was also Steven Douglas's (Fred McMurray) mother-in-law (mother of his second wife, played by Beverly Garland) on My Three Sons.
She was alsoJethro's teacher on the Beverly Hillillies
Thanks for the upload.💜
No but there’s a part for a dummy 😂 Buddy was ruthless to Mel 😁
13:30>You could see that line coming a mile away. Mrs Billings--Oliver's mother on GA.
The three of them performing was cute
Did you notice that Rob holds Anita's hand briefly during the Gold Rush twins performance.
I didn't notice that, but DID notice Jerry Helper was the first to hug Anita directly after the performance!
@@resaboutb.9566 Just finished watching this episode and noticed the same thing.
Yes, I did. Rob liked Anita. I think Laura was younger, prettier than Anita. Anita was old and not pretty. Her heir was ugly.
A great show, top of the line in 1962.
For someone who couldn't speak English, she sure sang it beautifully!

😂
😂
At 14:33 - the look on the face of the guy in the bow tie - and his hand gesture - like, "What in Hell is THIS?"
Too funny....
Anita's song was later to become the 'Frito Bandito' t.v. commercial theme song. I always think of that when I watch this episode.
The song is "Celito Lindo." It's an old Mexican folk song, recorded a gazillion times over the last hundred years.
The actress who plays Mrs. Billings in this episode guest starred in several I Love Lucy episodes too. 😊
Laura was Green with Envy
This the episode that makes me dislike Laura the most!
I'd still choose Laura.
me too.
Anita owns it.
Where did that music come from for the dancer? HAHA!
22:18-22:26 rob holds hands with the other woman. What’s up with that? Lol
I don't like Rob. He was Laura's husband ( in the show), but held hands with other woman while dancing with his wife. Suck!! . I lost my interest in watching his show.
At 02:36 Dick's happiness
At 03:56 he spoke too soon
At 04:42 he got trapped again
I would have put out a professional hit on Mrs. Billings!
😂
Mrs Billings was voice for Maleficent ( sleeping beauty)
She is also the voice of the step mother in Cinderella.
She also played Jethro's teacher on the Beverly Hillillies
Why mille& Jerry always in a hurry to leave in the peteres house😂
Actually, Mel’s act could be a funny act if portraying a really bad ventriloquist
I'm pretty sure that "if date" joke was already used. I'm watching every season in order & I could swear Sally used it in the first season.
do that do that do that do that do that
Mrs. Billings was quite a manipulative woman at times. Idk why Rob wouldn't stand up and just say no to her.
It's not as funny. There's no episode if he just says no. Plus it was (and still is) a commentary on how people are often steamrolled in the name of civility, politeness and good intentions.
What on earth would the episode be about then? Rob reading a book quietly by himself in the evenings? 🙄
Did anyone notice Rob and that other woman hold hands and while they were on the couch rob sat closer to her then to Laura
I hate Rob in this episode.
I had no idea Cher guest starred on DVD 😂
Blooper, on the last dance scene.
The entire dance scene was one ugly "blooper." With all that talent among the three of them, the writers of the show chose something that wasn't even worthy of showing to dogs, and dogs have no sense of dance at all!
@@jb6712 I totally agree with you. This episode was totally self serving. The last song had nothing to do with play.
Quite a few episodes have one or both of them being.....not adorable. I get annoyed at them! 😂🤣 They're good at it.
They wasted about 90% of Mary Tyler Moore’s talent on the MTM Show.

In the MTM she had the backbone of a jellyfish!

Lot's of non-English speaking singers sing in English. ABBA sang phonetically for a long time
