What a wonderful sock video! I have been struggling with knitting socks but this video clarified so many things that I just "didn't get". I am so excited, I think my daughter will get her "foot socks" soon! THANK YOU!

Thank you! Daughter wants a pair of slippers and although I knit a plethora of socks, have no clue how to knit slippers. Your time , efforts and generosity is appreciated!

I altered Judy's Magic Cast on to prevent the twisted stitches on the first needle. When looping the yarn over each needle, do it like a yarn over on each needle and the stitches will present themselves correctly.

This may be a life saver for me. Stumbled on the pattern and the. Found the tutorial notated in one of the comments. I have an elderly lady that Inhave tried so many different types of nonshow footies. Commercial and something I knit and nothing has been right because it goes too high up her foot and hurts. This is what I needed - something that barely skins over the toes and then stops. I can’t wait to try them. ThNk you so much for the detailed tutorial. I defiantly needed someone to visually guide me they the process

Thanks so much for the pattern and for the tutorial! I’ve knit many a pair of socks, but even, so I learned from viewing your tutorial! Very nice job, I like your style and the footies are adorable. I wish I could afford a big collection of the mini skeins, but they’re quite expensive (even on EBay). So, I’ll be stuck using my regular sock yarn for now. Thx, again!

Doing short row wrap and turn is super confusing and you do it so fast in your video, I can barely understand. I have tried making this sock a half dozen times and mess up on this part. I want to give up now. As well, I can’t find anyone on youtube that can explain how to do this. Why is that? I am totally turned off to making socks.
10/24: mistake, I failed to mention that wrap and turn is confusing ONLY on the ribbed part of the sock, bc ribbing has two right sides. From my research on the topic, wrap and turn with ribbing in the round is not very common. I am looking specifically for how to do a wrap and turn where the wrap was made on the purl side but picked up on the right side, not stockinette stitch. I’ve researched Japanese short rows and this looks a little easier to resolve then the wrap and turn on the ribbing.

I haven't gotten that far yet. But you can slow down the speed of the video. One of the buttons on the lower right side of the video relates to speed and you are on the middle one. Click one of the smaller numbers on top and it will slow down the speed so you can see what she is doing.

@@cadrns2467 Yes I did that too but was still having trouble. I actually tried several different short row methods and settled on the german short row, which is very effective, closes any holes and is rather simple to execute. The wrap and turn she shows is a little bit tricky, so if you are at all unsure (or newish to short rows) then I recommend at least looking into one of the other short row methods, which are not at all ambiguous about closing the gaps, wrong side or right side. Since switching to GSR, I’ve made 4 pairs of these socks. Hahha! Best of luck, and thank you for your recommendation too! :)

    from Skimmer Sock No Show.
    Rejoin working in the round:
CO 22 (26, 32, 36) sts at the end of the row. K2.
This is the new beginning of the round.
Shift 2 sts from 1st needle to 2nd needle on opposite side, so the st count is the same on the top
and bottom. 52 (60, 72, 80) sts total, 26(30,36,40) sts on each needle.
Can you explain this a little bit more. I'd really like to make these.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I love skimmer socks, but annoyed with the constant heel slippage, too. So excited to knit my first pair of socks. Question for you, did you initially learn to knit English or Continental style? I'm left handed and have considered switching to continental.

Curious if this could be done with a short row/shadow wrap or FLK heel.

I am knitting your sock pattern and am new to W&T and was wondering how many stitches should be on the needles after I pick up the wraps?
    thanks so much julie

so when you do the heel you said count 19 and place marker but if I am doing a larger size cast on for medium size, do I still use the 19 number? Since I have 42 sts not 38 I would assume use 21 sts to place marker? i just don't know schematics of where I am going with this sorry confused never did wraps in 60 years of knitting!!!

I recommend doing a german short row instead of the wrap and turn. It is infinitely easier, and closes holes just as well. The only change would be that you knit two stitches past the KFB, and when you turn, slip the first stitch and pull that stitch up to make a double stitch. When you go back, you knit/purl the double stitch together to close the hole. Easy.

I’ve had to restart 4 times because I couldn’t identify the w&t stitches on the purl side either. Now my yarn is shot. Gonna try again tomorrow from the very beginning with fresh yarn and use the German short row method instead 😤

When casting on, if you bring the thumb yarn between the needles to load it on to the back needle, the stitches will be oriented in the proper position so you won’t have to knit into the back of the stitch on your first round. And there is no such word as “acrost”!

Yes so good in theory and generous of u but actually for someone who does not comprehend wraps I really have no idea what you did the camera is too far away and keep flipping out of sight.
