I think of people like Mr Shrek here as basically guys that might be capable of being serial killers but, somehow they don't quite have the evil to direct that numbness toward anyone he perceives as innocent or at least not against him/his "team". Like if captain America was juuuuust slightly more...uh...Benedict Cumberbatch in Star Trek. Khan? I forget the characters name. That is NOT an indictment of him as person fyi. That is a reality of the variable of character we all are subject to. Mr Shrek just happens to be perfectly well adjusted for war. And on our side lol so that's a win.

And their interests are the exact opposite of "your side"s interests. Also, if he had been on the "other side", he probably would've done less evil and a much smaller scale, only Americans can take horror to a scale so big.

Story is that the tiger roamed the southern portion of the forward operation base until UN forces decided that killing it was the only option to keeping the coalition forces safe from tiger attacks.

Your buddy was most likely taking down enemy naval positions in the bay or on the river as part of a covert team of Rangers.. But, He could have been holding "A Jiffy" (Net with hooks and weights all over it) to pull the dead folks out of the river though too.

I have a 77 year old Vietnam Veteran friend named Archie. Bricklayer by trade and still does it on the side. He had double knee replacement, hip replacement and a heart attack. Recovering alcoholic and sober for the last 30 years. Second marriage and four kids. He plays Pickle ball in the mornings and lays bricks in the afternoon. He helped me construct my brick mailbox. I asked him about Vietnam and if he felt comfortable talking about it. For nearly two hours, he told me stories I'll never forget. I never said anything or interrupted him other than to say "Uh huh" "Really?" "Wow!" and "Holy shit!" He was in the thick of it. 77 years old and I'd think twice about tangling with him even now. He said "I may not be a big guy, but brother... If i'm in a fight, I'm coming at you with everything I've got and I will use anything around me to my advantage to end your life." He was serious.

Holy shit, my Platoon used to take care of those lions. My old Bradley gunner used to pull guard on them and give them steaks to eat. I was talking to him about it today. The cages were a few hundred feet from where we slept the whole time in Baghdad. I can confirm they acted weird when the Iraqi women and children would come by. I’ve seen the pictures he kept of them. We would have to walk past the cages with them inside when we would go up to see brigade headquarters for anything we needed up there. People from the San Diego zoo came to get them after a couple months.
