I don't know if anyone remembers 'The Divine David' Hoyle 0:34 but this just hurled me back in time. Film seems like it'd be his cuppa tea as well :)

I love how this is very much just a sequel to Berberian Sound Studio.
I thought it was going to be too artsy (like some films I've watched) that I wouldn't be able to understand anything. Fortunately, I understood it a bit. I think the film is quite accurate. For example,the exploitation of newly discovered talent in the entertainment industry (the orgies with the audience scene).
As a side note, Gwendoline's voice is so soothing! And her with the red dress (scene where she dropped the flanger on the floor) is a sight to behold.
I was a bit confused lol, did they cook elle in the end?
Also, is it just me, or what u watched also had parts where the narrator spoke french or another language? Those bits i didn't understand😭
@@mirrorball_ That is Greek. I found an English subtitle file online for the whole movie, including those parts. The guy narrates his "stomach problems", like how hard it is for him to hide the sound of his farts especially when they're always together (4 of them in the same room) 😂

As someone who loves Peter Greenaway, Ken Russell, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Panos Cosmatos, I'm ashamed to say I have disliked every Strickland movie I've seen. They always start off promising, but never wind being satisfying; they always devolve into too many tangents and bizarre meanderings that never help solidify what he wants to say. Every single one turns into a big nothing! It seems that he has the influences of these directors I've mentioned, including someone like David Lynch, yet of all the directors I know, this is the one that screams to me "weird for weird's sake." It's all style over substance - and the trailer gives it away just in the overly stylized hair of the actors - especially Asa Butterfield's. If the character was in an indie movie it would be comically cringe, instead here it looks merely off-putting. How I crave for Strickland to make a cohesive film that really entertains instead of being endlessly frustrating. But after three tries with his work, I just have no desire to see this. The trailer actually seems to emphasize his worst excesses. While a director like Ruben Östlund seems to grow with each fantastic movie, Strickland is already like the Wes Anderson of arthouse horror tedium.

From most of the reviews, it sounds like a rubbish movie. Asa whoever can't save it. It's about meaningless stuff trying to be interesting, and by most accounts, it fails badly.
It has an 85% on Rotten Tomatos and an 80% on Metacritic, smart guy. In other words, critics mostly loved it.
Why does one feel the need to make up stupid nonsense when they dont actually have any idea what they're talking about? So dumb...

Did you really like the movie Flux Gourmet yourself, or did you just defer to 'Rotten Tomatoes' and 'Metacritic' for your opinion? I generally agree with Rotten Tomatoes reviews but in this case, I thought this movie was self-indulgent shit that cynically played into the whole 'chef' thing going on right now. Like celebrity chefs whose light is fading, I suspect this movie will fade too. Having said that, I did enjoy watching it, I just felt it wasn't that great, and quite gimmicky with the whole chef/food thing. Anyway, each to his own!

People commenting about movies they havent seen and directors they know nothing about is far worse. Strickland is a very accomplished and well-respected director, you dolt. In no way does he simply rely on "shock value." If you dont know what you're talking about, maybe just dont comment.
